About the Team

TechSource is seeking a Waste Management Technician to support mission-critical waste management and ESH&amp;Q operations within highly regulated nuclear facilities, ensuring safe, compliant handling, characterization, and disposition of hazardous and radioactive materials in alignment with national security objectives. 


About this Role

The Waste Management Shipper prepares shipments in accordance with DOT regulations including industrial, hazardous, and radioactive material/waste. This role ensures accurate documentation, packaging, and regulatory compliance for all outgoing waste shipments. 


Key Responsibilities
<ul><li>
Prepare hazardous and radioactive waste shipments according to regulatory requirements and facility procedures.</li><li>
Generate and review shipping documentation including manifests, waste profiles, and disposal requests.</li><li>
Verify packaging, labeling, and container integrity prior to shipment.</li><li>
Coordinate shipment scheduling with transportation providers and receiving facilities.</li><li>
Maintain records of waste shipments and transportation documentation.</li><li>
Ensure shipments meet regulatory standards for hazardous and radioactive material transport.</li><li>
Conduct inspections and quality checks prior to shipment release.</li><li>
Assist with inventory tracking and waste storage management.</li><li>
Collaborate with waste management technicians and coordinators to ensure waste readiness for shipment.</li></ul> 


Work Environment

100% onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. The site location is a one-way, approximately 45-minute drive from Santa Fe and approximately 90-minute drive from Albuquerque.<ul><li>
Must be willing to work around radioactive materials in compliance with safety protocols.</li><li>
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance, which includes successfully passing a federal drug test and federal background check.
</li><li>A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.</li><li>
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.</li></ul> 


Desired Qualifications
<ul><li>
Formal technical training or certification concerning hazardous waste, radioactive materials, or hazard material shipping regulations is preferred.</li><li>
Knowledge of hazardous materials shipping regulations (DOT, etc.) preferred.</li><li>
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.</li></ul>

About this Role

The Waste Management Technician performs technical work supporting the handling, inspection, packaging, and storage of hazardous and radioactive waste materials. Technicians ensure waste materials are managed safely and in compliance with established procedures. 


Key Responsibilities
<ul><li>
Handle, package, label, and store hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste materials.</li><li>
Perform inspections and characterization reviews on waste containers to verify proper handling and storage requirements.</li><li>
Operate mechanical equipment such as forklifts or drum handlers to move and stage waste containers.</li><li>
Assist with waste segregation, repackaging, and container preparation activities.</li><li>
Maintain accurate records for waste profiles, inventory, inspections, and disposal documentation.</li><li>
Conduct visual inspections to identify prohibited materials or compliance issues.</li><li>
Support laboratory or facility operations by transporting waste containers and materials between designated areas.</li><li>
Follow detailed operating procedures and safety protocols for hazardous material handling.</li><li>
Assist with troubleshooting operational issues related to waste handling processes.</li></ul> 


Work Environment

About this Role

The Waste Management Coordinator oversees waste handling, characterization, storage, and disposal activities to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. This role coordinates waste management operations, performs hazardous and radiological characterization, maintains documentation, and serves as a liaison between operations teams, environmental compliance staff, and regulatory agencies. 


Key Responsibilities
<ul><li>
Coordinate waste management operations including handling, categorization, packaging, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste materials.</li><li>
Perform and verify waste characterization to ensure proper handling, labeling, segregation, categorization, and packaging of waste, while supporting the preparation and review of operating procedures, work planning documents, and safety documentation.</li><li>
Ensure compliance with applicable federal (EPA, NRC, etc.) and state regulations and organizational procedures governing hazardous and radioactive waste.</li><li>
Maintain records including waste profiles, storage inventories, inspection logs, disposal documentation, and shipping paperwork.</li><li>
Provide oversight and guidance to waste management technicians and field operators.</li><li>
Monitor waste storage areas to ensure proper containment, labeling, categorization, and regulatory compliance.</li><li>
Serve as a point of contact for waste handling operations and regulatory inquiries.</li><li>
Assist in identifying process improvements and implementing waste reduction initiatives.</li><li>
Support internal audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting activities.</li></ul> 


Work Environment
