Position SummaryThe Apprentice Diesel Mechanic Technician assists in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment used in highway and road construction projects. This entry-level position is designed to provide hands-on training and technical development under the supervision of experienced mechanics.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Assist senior mechanics with diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy construction equipment including bulldozers, excavators, loaders, graders, rollers, and on-road trucks</li><li>Perform routine preventative maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and fluid checks</li><li>Inspect equipment for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues</li><li>Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and shop/work areas</li><li>Follow all safety procedures and company policies while working in shop and field environments</li><li>Learn to interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools</li><li>Assist with welding, fabrication, and component replacement as directed</li><li>Document work performed and parts used accurately</li><li>Participate in company-sponsored training programs and apprenticeship coursework</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>High school diploma or GED required</li><li>Enrollment in or completion of a diesel technology program preferred</li><li>Basic knowledge of diesel engines and heavy equipment (classroom or hands-on experience)</li><li>Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn</li><li>Valid driver&rsquo;s license required (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain)</li><li>Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in varying weather conditions</li><li>Strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude</li></ul>Skills &amp; Competencies<ul><li>Basic understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems</li><li>Ability to use hand and power tools safely</li><li>Strong attention to detail</li><li>Good communication and teamwork skills</li><li>Commitment to workplace safety</li></ul>Work Environment<ul><li>Combination of shop and fieldwork on active highway construction sites</li><li>Exposure to loud noise, heavy machinery, dust, and varying weather conditions</li><li>May require overtime, weekend work, and travel to job sites</li></ul>Career PathThis apprenticeship position offers structured on-the-job training with opportunities for advancement to Journeyman Diesel Mechanic and Senior Equipment Technician roles.Pay: From $28.00 per hourBenefits:<ul><li>Health insurance</li><li>Professional development assistance</li><li>Retirement plan</li></ul>Work Location: In person
