 The Atlantic
 
 is seeking an assistant editor to join the newsroom. This person will be assigned to the Science, Technology, and Health team, with a focus on science and health. The ideal candidate will be curious, organized, well-read in magazine journalism, and hungry to learn. The position is full-time.
 
 
 Assistant editors are integral members of the newsroom at every phase of work, from generating ideas to bringing
 
 The Atlantic
 
 &rsquo;s journalism to life. They work closely with senior editors to keep the editorial wheels turning, with responsibilities that include&mdash;but aren&rsquo;t limited to&mdash;fact-checking, story research, participating in editorial meetings, maintaining publication schedules, managing submissions, and preparing edited work for publication online. The job may have occasional opportunities for writing and editing, as well. It will at times include night, early-morning, and weekend work.
 
 
 
 Qualifications Of The Ideal Candidate Include
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 At least two years of experience in journalism, publishing, or a related field. (School experience can count.)
 </li>
 <li>
 Familiarity with the latest ideas and developments in the fields covered by the Science, Technology, and Health team, and especially topics related to science and health.
 </li>
 <li>
 Excellent writing, editing, and research skills. In particular, a comfort assessing academic research and other technical work, along with a flair for communicating intricate concepts to a broad audience.
 </li>
 <li>
 A passion for ideas and a strong sense of what distinguishes The Atlantic&rsquo;s Science, Technology, and Health journalism.
 </li>
 <li>
 Excellent time management, with the ability to communicate effectively within a fast-paced, tight-knit team, and to accomplish both discrete tasks and longer-term projects on deadline.

 Salary Minimum: $69,000; Salary Maximum: $75,000
 
 
 
 
 This role is based in DC.
