 POSITION DETAILS
 
 
 
 The Science Writer will report to the Communications Publications Editorial Manager at The City College of New York. In
 
 
 addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Science Writer&rsquo;s duties include but are not limited to the following:
 
 
 (Campus-specific Information and duties)
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Assist in the preparation of written material on a variety of topics such as students, alumni, faculty,campus facilities, academic programs, research and/or events.
 </li>
 <li>
 Actively engage in all aspects of the writing process with close attention to detail&mdash;including research, writing,proofreading and editing.
 </li>
 <li>
 Research and assist in writing news releases, brochures, profiles, announcements, e-news stories and othermaterials as needed.
 </li>
 <li>
 Create material to be used in a number of formats such as print, websites, and presentations.
 </li>
 <li>
 Craft messages for donors and potential donors at every stage of the philanthropy experience: cultivation,stewardship, and solicitation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Translate complex scientific information into clear, vibrant lay language.
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepare proposals and stewardship reports on scientific research; descriptions of giving opportunities; and otherfundraising-related correspondence
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Qualifications
 
 
 
 Bachelor's Degree required.
 
 
 
 Preferred Qualifications
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Experience with media relations and ability to pitch to external media
 </li>
 <li>
 Specialize in engaging scientific communities; have a strong ability to analyze scientific data; evaluate research outcomes and applications, and able to communicate to both lay and scientific readers
 
 
 </li>

 May work with other professionals in admissions, marketing, public relations, development, or academic affairs to write brochures or marketing materials

 Compensation And Benefits
 
 
 
 Salary Range: $84,815 - $89,506. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
 
 
 CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
