The Gill Corporation is seeking a Scientist/Engineer III to be responsible for independently conducting laboratory project activities for the development of new products, processes, improvement of existing products and processes, and solving of specific problems relating to the manufacturing/quality of various products as well as mentoring other engineers and scientists as required.
Reporting to the R&amp;D Manager, they will perform but not be limited to the following responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Plans and executes a technical approach to a complex problem based on product specifications, problem statement and/or desired product improvement. May work with customers to develop the problem statement.</li><li>
Formulates resin systems on chemistry of resins. Interprets tests results and other pertinent information to adjust formulation and/or process variables as needed.</li><li>
Develops processes for the manufacturing of new or existing products.</li><li>
Supervises the work of laboratory technicians and trains them as needed.</li><li>
Records all formulations, observations and test results in detail and maintaining the information in a manner such that other personnel could continue the project work. Performs all aspects of laboratory functions.
</li><li>Independently coordinates and over sees production of new products, improvement of existing products and /or processes and problem-solving solutions.
</li><li>Presents data within and to other departments as needed, and act as a technical expert in their area of expertise.</li><li>
Performs analytical, physical and mechanical testing according to specifications and procedures.</li><li>
Has a solid understanding of composite material testing or formulation chemistry.
</li><li>Makes and executes recommendations for the improvement of manufacturing efficiencies, product quality, laboratory practices and safety issues. Provides lab leadership on safe handling of chemicals. Coordinates lab chemical waste as needed.</li><li>
Provides assistance to other departments as assigned.</li><li>
Supports the development of new technologies or formulations relevant for existing or new products utilizing resources such as literature searches (patents, scientific articles), conferences, etc. Proposes new project ideas based on their research.</li><li>
Regularly provides technical guidance to lower level scientist/engineers.</li><li>
Reports project progress and prepares final reports at the conclusion of the project.
</li><li>Engages with customer and suppliers on project status and product requirements.
</li><li>Supports development of intellectual property for the business.</li></ul>

Required Qualifications:
<ul><li>B.S. degree in a scientific or engineering field.</li><li>
Advanced degree or coursework desirable.</li><li>
Training in composite technology or mechanical/analytical testing is expected.</li><li>
At least five years of relevant experience working with composite materials or resin formulations in industry or academia (as part of Master&rsquo;s or PhD Program).</li><li>
Experience supporting the generation of intellectual property in industry or academia is a plus.</li></ul>
