HJF is seeking a Senior Military Medical Advisor (SMMA) to serve as program lead for the clinical component of Creative Forces&reg;: National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Military Healing Arts Network, a partnership between the NEA, the Veterans Health Administration (VA), and Department of War (DoW). This position serves a critical role in planning, organizing, evaluating, advising, and coordinating healthcare operations activities for Creative Forces, including identifying and developing opportunities for growth to new target populations.
This position will be in support of Creative Forces&reg;: National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Military Healing Arts Network. The mission of the Creative Forces Network is to improve the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of trauma-exposed military service members and veterans, as well as their families and caregivers, by increasing knowledge of and access to clinical creative arts therapies and community-based arts programming. The SMMA plays a critical role in sustaining and growing activities within the current target population while testing and developing programs, as directed, for new target populations of interest to the NEA and partner organizations (such as Disaster Response, First Responders, Substance Abuse, Aging and Independent Living, and Pediatric Cancer). Core activities include standardizing clinical practice to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality care across the distributed Network, connecting to and supporting community arts engagement activities, and building and circulating evidence about the efficacy of creative arts therapies within the clinic to community continuum.

 Research Assistant I
 
 to perform research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. The Research Assistant provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solves less complex problems in carrying out research projects in a laboratory environment. This is the first of four levels within the Research Assistant series.
 
 
 Serves as a Research Assistant I in the Department of Pharmacology and Molecular Therapeutics, to support the Kortum laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. Responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team.
 
 
 The lab is working to determine the mechanisms that promote drug tolerant persister survival and identify biomarkers of tumor initiating cells that drive resistance to RTK-targeted therapies in RTK-mutated NSCLC.

 Responsibilities
 
 
 
 <ul>

 Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing biochemical and cell biological experiments related to a new research projects assessing the role of WT RAS activation in RAS-mutated cancers.
 </li>
 <li>
 Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which will involve specialized procedures including: cell line generation using both viral vectors and CRISPR technology, cell culture, nucleic acid extraction/purification/transfection, growth factor stimulation, BRET, immunoprecipitation and Western blotting, molecular cloning and site-directed mutagenesis, immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy, animal genetics and husbandry, and other techniques as needed/required by the laboratory.
 </li>
 <li>
 Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.
 </li>
 <li>
 Processes and interprets experimental data, and prepares accurate and timely research reports.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists with training laboratory staff as needed.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintains cleanliness of laboratory areas and performs routine maintenance tasks on laboratory equipment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Perform flow cytometry to assess CSC markers in DTPs.
 </li>
 <li>
 Perform and analyze ssRNA sequencing.
 </li>
 <li>
 Acquire RTK-mutated NSCLC cell lines from ATCC.
 </li>
 <li>

 Education and Experience

 Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, Pharmacology, or a related discipline.

 Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.

 Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
 </li>
 <li>
 Experience with use of personal computers for manuscript preparation and data analysis is essential. Additional training will be provided for advanced animal experimental techniques.

 Subject knowledge in biology, biochemistry, and genetics. Laboratory experience with competence in routine areas of modern cellular and molecular biology.
 </li>

 Ability to follow detailed instructions.

 Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust background check.

 Nurse Practitioner I
 
 that helps with all aspects of patient care for research purposes. May work in inpatient, outpatient and research situations and performs independently or as part of a treatment team. Educates patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments, including research supplements and placebos. Conduct physical exams, orders tests and medications, and serves as a patient's primary healthcare provider.
 
 This position is part-time at 21 hours per week during the standard business day.
 
 
 
 This position will be in support of the Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (Bethesda, MD). Research will be in collaboration with the cardiovascular unit of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

 Responsibilities

 Provides support in study coordination and implementation, data and study management. Oversees the implementation, tracking, data abstraction and collection, and coordination of data reporting.
 </li>

 Knowledgeable and proficient with the content of standard of care. Identifies problems in the research design, analysis, methodology and trends in patient reactions to treatment. Collects, organizes, catalogs, disseminates, and maintains appropriate files of current data.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists in the development of research questions, design and methodology. Assists in writing and/or editing, organization and management of protocols. Supports protocols at Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).
 </li>
 <li>
 Educates patients and their families on research protocol, purpose of the research, procedures, patient responsibilities, answers questions, and discusses risks and benefits of participation. May explain Informed Consent for research protocol(s).
 </li>
 <li>
 Develops reports and presents clinical results at local and national meetings and assist in the preparation of research articles for publication in scientific journals.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides patient care including: screening, evaluating and monitoring patients. Prepares patients for office visits and invasive procedures and assists in the implementation of these procedures.

 <li>
 Provides assistance, consultation, assessment and monitoring of patients participating in or being evaluated for enrollment in research studies.

 <li>
 Performs examinations and screenings on participating patients and maintains records of results. Prescribes appropriate therapies within the limits established by the protocol.

 Provides feedback to PI to monitor the quality of patient care and issues that affect protocol adherence and program operations.
