POSITION OVERVIEW: 
The Youth Focused Senior Psychiatrist (YFSP) is a highly skilled child psychiatrist who delivers leadership and guidance to clinicians and programs throughout the agency serving children and teenagers. The YFSP is a new position at the Jewish Board and is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to better serve our populations with evidence-based practices to a growing population. As such, the YFSP will be expected to embrace change and new challenges, and offer innovative and realistic ideas for improving and enhancing access to youth mental health care.
 
The YFSP will work in a traditional, youth-focused clinical role approximately 40% of the time. The traditional clinical role is described in the general psychiatrist role described elsewhere, but with the caveat that the YFSP would be providing clinical care primarily to youth clients.
 
The remaining 60% will involve the supervisory and managerial duties, including:
 <ul>
<li>Supervision of Creedmoor Post Graduate Year 3 Psychiatry Residents including but not limited to reviewing and signing off on documentation and prescriptions</li>
<li>clinical support/supervision primarily to psychiatric providers, but also therapists and program directors, working with all populations (youth and non-youth)</li>
<li>overarching case and treatment planning at youth-focused programs like Youth ACT Teams</li>
</ul>
The YFSP is expected to offer leadership and vision to treatment for high-risk youth with multisystem involvement and high risks (e.g. legal system, foster care, substance use, self harm, suicide, trauma, etc.) The YFSP also takes part in monthly agency wide supervision sessions with psych providers on relevant child psych issues, along with regular high risk incident review committee meetings.
 
Key Essential Functions: 
The YFSP will also assist the agency’s central Psychiatric Services team in various undertakings, including:
 <ul>
<li>Chart reviews of psych providers at the agency to better identify and help improve documentation and practice</li>
<li>Research on youth psychiatric practices</li>
<li>Development/updating of policies and protocols</li>
<li>Supporting and streamlining administrative and leadership issues related to youth psychiatric care, the IHT and the agency as a whole, such as the piloting of new programs, expansion/continuation of QI projects, etc.</li>
<li>Coverage of temporary/limited hours at clinical programs with psychiatric provider vacancies</li>
<li>Refill coverage</li>
</ul>
EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIRED: 
<ul>
<li>Active DEA and New York State license as a psychiatrist required.</li>
<li>Approved PECOS and OPRA status in NY state required.</li>
<li>Psychiatrists must be board certified in child psychiatry.</li>
</ul>
COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED: 
<ul>
<li>Comfort with providing clinical care and supervision via remote, technology based systems.</li>
<li>Limited applications of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.</li>
<li>Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)</li>
<li>Ability and willingness to learn new systems and application software.</li>
</ul>
VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXTERITY: 
<ul>
<li>Limited applications of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.</li>
</ul>
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL EFFORT: 
<ul>
<li>May require occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and training.</li>
<li>Ability for periodic travel required. Locations will vary, but will include Jewish Board sites throughout the 5 boroughs of New York City.</li>
</ul>
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / LANGUAGE PREFERENCE: 
<ul>
<li>Extensive, demonstrated experience providing high quality youth psychiatric care, preferably within a wide range of diagnoses and demographic groups, especially in outpatient and community, open access mental health (i.e. non-private practice) settings.</li>
<li>Comfort supervising newly graduated NPPs, including some NPPs coming from academic programs where they were not allowed to independently treat youth at all.</li>
<li>Ability for periodic travel required. Locations will vary, but will include Jewish Board sites throughout the 5 boroughs of New York City.</li>
