<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Summary of Duties</b></h2></div>
<div><p>The position is responsible for providing comprehensive intake and ongoing support services to adult wards under guardianship. This includes conducting investigations of the ward&rsquo;s residence to locate important personal documents and assets, coordinating with family members, caregivers, and service providers, and assisting with applications for public benefits and identification documents. The position involves extensive fieldwork&mdash;visiting clients, assessing their living conditions and well-being, and ensuring their safety and access to necessary services. The position also transports and accompanies wards to medical appointments, court appearances, and other essential activities; prepares required reports and documentation; purchases necessary items; explores community resources; and maintains accurate client records using designated software.</p></div>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Minimum Qualification Requirements</b></h2></div>
<div><p><b>Education Requirement</b>: Graduation from high school. Experience of the type described below or work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for lack of high school education.<br>
<br>
<b>Specialized Experience Requirement</b>: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in such programs as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing; e.g., performing clerical tasks in processing various documents, transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations, explaining to clients or tenants the services available, assisting in overseeing group activities such as bowling and swimming.<br>

<b>Substitutions Allowed</b>:<br>
<br>
1. Training received at an accredited college or university may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of three (3) years.<br>
<br>
2. Satisfactory completion of a social service aid and assistant curriculum at an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college which resulted in a Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Science or related degree may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.<br>
<br>
<b>Selective Certification Requirement - Driver's License</b>: These positions require a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.<br>
<br>
<b>Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement (28 CFR 115.17, 115.117, 115.217 and 115.317):</b> For these positions, applicants may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities.<br>
<br>
In accordance with the Federal PREA Law, the Hawaii State Judiciary shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities who:<br>
<br>
a. Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution;<br>
b. Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse;<br>
c. Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in b above; or<br>
d. Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.</p></div>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Summary of Duties</b></h2></div>
<div><p>Authors the official court record in a court of limited jurisdiction for District Court traffic and criminal arraignment or civil small claims court proceedings; prepares documents ordered by the court; and performs other duties as required.</p></div>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Minimum Qualification Requirements</b></h2></div>
<div><p><b>Education Requirement:</b> Graduation from high school or equivalent. Excess experience of the type described below or work experience requiring the ability to read and comprehend and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skills may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.<br>
<br>
<b>Specialized Experience:</b> One (1) year of work experience in a court or legal setting, which included the preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents in court proceedings.<br>
<br>
<b>Skill Requirement:</b> Applicants must possess the ability to type at a rate of 40 net words per minute.<br>
<br>
The applicant's proficiency may be evaluated by the appointing authority. Failure to meet the proficiency requirements may result in suspension of the applicant's eligibility. The Judiciary Human Resources Department reserves the right to test an applicant when there is evidence that the applicant does not meet the proficiency requirements for the class for which the applicant applied.<br>

<b>Substitutions Allowed:</b><br>

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience:<br>
<br>
1. Education at an accredited college or university in a paralegal, legal studies, law program, or a closely related field may be substituted on the basis of fifteen (15) semester credits for six (6) months of Specialized Experience up to a maximum of one (1) year.<br>
<br>
2. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Political Science, or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.<br>
<br>
<b>Qualification for Firearms:</b> For this position, applicants must be qualified to possess firearm or ammunition in accordance with state and federal laws, e.g., no misdemeanor or felony domestic violence conviction.</p></div>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Summary of Duties</b></h2></div>
<div><p>Serves as a full assistant to the Court Administrator; participates in the management of various court support functions of an organizational segment; acts in the absence of the Court Administrator; and performs other duties as required.</p></div>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Minimum Qualification Requirements</b></h2></div>
<div><p><b>Education Requirement</b>: Graduation from an accredited (4) year college or university with a bachelor&rsquo;s degree.<br>
<br>
Excess work experience as described under Specialized Experience below, or any other responsible administrative, professional or analytical work experience which provided knowledge and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a bachelor&rsquo;s degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge of comparable knowledge and abilities.<br>
<br>
The education or experience background must also demonstrate the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex material; and solve complex problems logically and systematically.<br>
<br>
<b>Specialized Experience</b>: Three (3)<b> </b>years of progressively responsible professional, administrative, technical work experience in one or a combination of the following areas. Clerical work experience is non-qualifying:<br>
<br>
1. In a court or legal setting, responsibility for supervising or overseeing the operational activities of a unit or section whose primary function is the preparation and/or processing of legal documents. Such experience must have included: (1) planning and directing the work of others; (2) assigning and reviewing their work; (3) advising them on difficult problem areas; (4) timing and scheduling their work; (5) training and developing new employees; and (6) disciplining them when necessary. Examples of legal setting are: Office of the Prosecutor, Public Defender, Department of the Attorney General, legal department in a financial institution or trust company, private attorney&rsquo;s office.<br>
<br>
2. Independently performing professional work involving written analysis, evaluation and recommendations for problem resolution in a court or legal setting, or those social work or administrative programs of the courts.<br>
<br>
<i>For purposes of this section, non-supervisory and supervisory work experience performing and/or supervising general clerical is not qualifying.</i><br>
<br>
<b>Administrative Experience: </b>For the Assistant Court Administrator, administrative aptitude rather than actual administrative experience is accepted. Administrative aptitude will be considered to have been met for this level when there is strong evidence of the necessary administrative aptitudes and abilities. Such evidence may be in the form of success in regular or special assignments or projects which involve administrative problems (e.g., planning, organizing, promoting and directing a program providing staff advice and assistance); interest in management demonstrated by the performance of work assignments in a manner which clearly indicates awareness of problems and the ability to solve them; completion of educational or training courses in the areas of management accompanied by the application of principles, which were learned, to work assignments; management&rsquo;s observation and evaluation of the applicant&rsquo;s leadership and managerial capabilities; success in trial assignments to managerial and/or administrative tasks.<br>
<br>
<b>Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience:</b><br>
<br>
1) A Master's degree in business, public administration or criminal justice administration or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.<br>
<br>
2) Graduation from an accredited school of law may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.</p></div>
