Overview</b><br>
The New York Public Library&rsquo;s (NYPL) Energy Team is committed to implementing energy management best practices across NYPL&rsquo;s portfolio of buildings to help the city meet its ambitious emissions reduction and energy goals. NYPL is working to reduce building emissions by 49% by 2025 and 86% by 2030 (compared to 2006 levels), culminating in full decarbonization by 2050. The Energy Team works to track overall energy usage and identify energy-saving opportunities in buildings, implement energy-efficient operations and maintenance (O&amp;M) practices, and oversee the delivery of energy-efficiency retrofit projects.</div><div></div><div><br>
The Energy Analyst will primarily be charged with data collection, analysis, research, presentation, and reporting on energy and emission reduction projects and programs to inform decision-making. The Energy Analyst will sit within the Department of Facilities Management which is responsible for keeping all NYPL locations safe, clean, comfortable and welcoming for our patrons and staff.</div><div></div><div><b><br>

<b>
Own</b>:</div><ul>
<li>The initiatives being advanced by the NYPL&rsquo;s Energy Team. Provide strategic and technical insight into the energy savings opportunities that may be most appropriate.</li>
<li>Day-to-day energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions research, data management, analysis, and reporting. Lead and/or support comprehensive reporting to NYPL leadership and other City and external stakeholders.</li>
<li>All utility and energy data analysis, requests, and communications.</li>
</ul><div><b>Teach:</b></div><ul>
<li>Staff to identify opportunities for improvement in energy efficiency and sustainability, and how to execute such measures.</li>
<li>Energy efficiency and building operations best practices by hosting Demand Response (DR) events throughout NYPL.</li>
<li>Cooling center activation and NYPL&rsquo;s essential role in designating its branch locations as official cooling centers throughout New York City</li>
</ul><div><b>Learn:</b></div><ul>
<li>New and emerging trends in energy efficiency, sustainability, and decarbonization.</li>
<li>How to be a resource/subject matter expert on the NYPL&rsquo;s energy management and sustainability work.</li>
</ul><div><b>Improve :</b></div><ul>
<li>Data quality and accuracy for reporting, including building data, energy consumption, and GHG emissions progress. Enhance NYPL&rsquo;s participation and performance in real-time metering, Demand Response programs and as Cooling Centers.</li>
<li>The ability of NYPL to provide patrons and staff with a safe and welcoming environment.</li>
</ul><div><b>Some expectations for this role are that within:</b></div><div></div><div><br>

1 month</b>, this person will:</div><ul>
<li>Understand how NYPL is organized and physically laid out</li>
<li>Understand the specific goals and role of the Energy Team and Facilities Operations team in relation to other departments</li>
<li>Know their departmental contacts</li>
<li>Begin to perform inspections and assessments of NYPL branch libraries</li>
</ul><div><b>3 months</b>, this person will:</div><ul>
<li>Attain working fluency with all available NYPL data and databases, actively maintaining and updating these systems as assigned.</li>
<li>Independently develop and produce high-quality presentations, technical reports, and grant write-ups in support of objectives.</li>
<li>Establish and manage comprehensive documentation protocols for key processes and systems.</li>
</ul><div><b>6 months and beyond</b>, this person will:</div><ul>
<li>Train others on energy conservation and sustainability</li>
<li>Perform inspections and assessments independently</li>
<li>Provide support in technical calculations and analysis to assist NYPL project implementation.</li>
<li>Manage NYPL energy training and outreach efforts and assist with the development of NYPL&rsquo;s heat, light, and power (HLP) budget.</li>
</ul><div><b>Responsibilities</b></div><ul>
<li>Perform the day-to-day energy and GHG emissions reductions research, data management, analysis, and reporting</li>
<li>Support local law reporting compliance efforts, including for Local Law 84 (benchmarking), Local Law 101 (carbon capital budgeting), and Local Law 24 (solar PV potential)</li>
<li>Conduct monthly energy billing review and analysis, investigate and correct potential billing errors, and determine the root causes of changes in energy usage and demand</li>
<li>Perform site visits and inspections as assigned</li>
<li>Handle NYPL utility account management, including requesting DEM to open, close, and transfer accounts</li>
<li>Provide analytical, coordination, and administrative support for participation in real-time metering and Demand Response (DR) programs, including communication of DR events</li>
<li>Support the management of energy funds and contracts, including processing and execution of Intra-City agreements and budget modification forms</li>
<li>Maintain and manage all NYPL&rsquo;s Cooling Center data in real-time</li>
<li>Manage NYPL energy training and outreach efforts, promoting currently available training and deploying Library-wide awareness seminars</li>
<li>Prepare high-quality reports, presentations, and communication materials</li></ul><br>

Required Education, Experience &amp; Skills</b></h3><div><b><br>
Required Education &amp; Certifications</b></div><ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in environmental science, engineering (civil, mechanical, or facilities), applied science, research and policy, public administration, or related field.</li></ul><div><b>
Required Experience</b></div><ul><li>
2+ years of experience in energy analysis, research, energy management, sustainability, engineering, or equivalent experience in a STEM field.</li></ul><div><b>
Required Skills</b></div><ul>
<li>Excellent mathematical, statistical, and data management skills</li>
<li>Ability to analyze and present complex data sets using the City&rsquo;s databases, Microsoft Excel, Salesforce, etc.</li>
<li>Aptitude for energy conversion calculations, including weather normalization</li>
<li>Strong writing, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills</li>
<li>Knowledge of new and emerging trends in the area of energy efficiency, sustainability, and decarbonization</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and business relationships effectively</li>
</ul><div><b>Preferred Skills</b></div><ul><li>
Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Operator Certification &ndash; Level 1; and/or LEED AP credentials are preferred</li></ul><div><b>
