JOB SUMMARY:</b> The Chemotherapy Registered Nurse is responsible for providing safe, compassionate, and expert nursing care to patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics, and supportive infusion treatments. The Chemo RN performs focused patient assessments, administers complex IV therapies, monitors for adverse reactions, educates patients and families, and collaborates closely with oncologists and the interdisciplinary team. This role requires specialized oncology knowledge, strong critical-thinking skills, and strict adherence to evidence-based chemotherapy safety standards.</p><p><b>
Supervision received:</b> General supervision by the Director of Clinical Services.
</p><p><b>Supervision performed:</b> Treatment and triage Medical Assistants.</p><p></p><p><b>
Essential Duties</b></p><p><b>
Chemotherapy and Infusion Administration</b></p><p>
Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and related IV medications in accordance with provider orders and evidence-based protocols. Verify chemotherapy orders, doses, and calculations following institutional safety policies (e.g., double-checks, protocol verification). Access, de-access, and manage central lines and peripheral IVs. Monitor patients closely during and after infusions for hypersensitivity, anaphylaxis, or other adverse reactions. Manage infusion-related complications promptly using clinical judgment and emergency protocols.</p><p><b>
Patient Assessment and Support</b></p><ul><li>
Perform focused pre-treatment assessments, including vital signs, lab review, symptom evaluation, and treatment appropriateness.</li><li>
Identify changes in patient status and communicate significant findings to the Clinic RN and Physician.</li><li>
Provide emotional support and education about treatment plans, side effects, symptom management, and self-care strategies.</li><li>
Educate patients on infection prevention, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia precautions, and when to seek urgent care.</li></ul><p><b>
Treatment Coordination and Documentation</b></p><ul><li>
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of assessments, medications, reactions, and interventions in the EHR.</li><li>
Review lab values, diagnostic results, and pre-medication requirements before initiating treatment.</li><li>
Assist with scheduling and patient flow to maintain an efficient and patient-centered infusion environment.</li></ul><p><b>
Safety and Compliance</b></p><ul><li>
Follow OSHA, USP Guidelines, ONS/ONCC, and facility standards for handling hazardous drugs and PPE.</li><li>
Maintain a safe environment for both patients and staff by adhering to infection control and hazardous waste disposal guidelines.</li><li>
Maintain chemotherapy competency and annual reassessments as required.</li></ul><p><b>
Qualifications:</b> Current RN license by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners or a Compact RN license until residency is established and a Texas license can be obtained. Preferred 1-3 years of oncology infusion or ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification</p><p><b>
Special requirements or skills required</b></p><p>
Ability to communicate well with physicians, staff, and patients. Good phlebotomy, venous access, organizational and time management skills required. Basic computer skills required.</p></div><p></p>

JOB TITLE:</b> Medical Laboratory Scientist</p><p></p><p><b>
REPORTS TO (RATER&rsquo;S TITLE):</b> Manager of Laboratory Services</p><p></p><p><b>
JOB SUMMARY: </b>Under general supervision, this position performs laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance within the clinical laboratory.</p><p></p><p><b>
TYPE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED: </b>Under general guidance and direction of the Manager of Laboratory Services.</p><p></p><p><b>
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
</b></p><p></p><p>Perform routine laboratory tests within the clinical laboratory.
</p><p></p><p>2. Recognize test inconsistencies and take appropriate corrective action. Provide assistance to laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems</p><p></p><p>
3. Report critical test results to physicians and/or nurses immediately and according to established criteria.</p><p></p><p>
4. Prepare test reports legibly. Initial and date own work performed. Review reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications.</p><p></p><p>
5. Perform quality control tests according to procedure and maintain appropriate data recording.</p><p></p><p>
Analyze quality control data and take appropriate corrective action when results are outside acceptable limits. Provide assistance to laboratory coworkers in resolution of similar problems. Seek help from the director as required. Document actions taken.</p><p></p><p>
Hold patient results until out-of-control situations are resolved. Report unresolved situations to the director.</p><p></p><p>
Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting. Observe and follow department preventative maintenance schedules. Document all instrument checks, preventative maintenance, problems and corrective actions taken.</p><p></p><p>
Recognize, analyze, and take corrective action to resolve instrument/clinical problems. Provide assistance to laboratory coworkers in the resolution of similar problems. Seek help from the director. Report unresolved instrument/clinical problems to the director.</p><p></p><p>
Perform clerical functions associated with the designated laboratory area. Maintain tally records of work performed for workload and statistical reporting purposes. May be assigned responsibility for monthly collation of tallies. Help maintain files pertinent to the laboratory area. Check billing list for accurate laboratory charges daily.</p><p></p><p>
Contribute to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs.</p><p></p><p>
Perform specimen collection and processing duties as needed or assigned and according to policies established.</p><p></p><p>
Attend department staff meetings and in service training. Attend and participate in the preparation and/or presentation of the laboratory continuing education program.</p><p></p><p>
Keep work area neat and clean, and restock daily supplies.</p><p></p><p>
Assist the director in inventory control, requisition of supplies and quality assurance activities.</p><p></p><p>
Perform other duties as assigned.</p><p></p><p><b>
QUALIFICATIONS</b>: Baccalaureate degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology (Laboratory Science) program that is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), or equivalent training, education, and experience. ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized Medical Technology certification is preferred.</p></div>
