Originally opened by Glenn Purdy and his wife, Tilley, it enjoyed a 40+ year run at that location. Starting as little more than a diner, it eventually graduated to more substantial offerings. For generations, Glenn&rsquo;s caf&eacute;, with its iconic sign, became a favorite stop for weary traveler and local families alike.In 1988, the caf&eacute; and its sign were brought to downtown Columbia at 9th and Cherry. There, the caf&eacute; gained a heavy dose of New Orleans influence. In 2002, Glenn&rsquo;s closed its doors, leaving many to wonder if they had seen the last of it. After a brief stint from 2006 to 2013 at Hotel Frederick in Boonville, MO, Glenn&rsquo;s Caf&eacute; moved back to downtown Columbia, bringing along its beloved original sign.Glenn&rsquo;s Caf&eacute; is now joined with The Tiger Hotel, the only 4 diamond hotel in Columbia. Built in 1928 by Simon Construction Company, The Tiger Hotel was the most lavish hotel in Columbia, with modern amenities seen nowhere else. Designed by Alonzo Gentry, a member of the Statler Hotel architectural team, it was the first skyscraper between Kansas City and St. Louis. The Tiger sign on the roof became and is to this day one of the most notable landmarks in Columbia. In 1979, The Tiger Hotel was nominated for the National Registry of Historic Places and was named one of the top ten most notable places in Boone County in 2000.What&rsquo;s the job?
