The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking Patient Care Technicians in the Surgery Specialty Services Unit (2RC) to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses. This unit is part of the Medical Surgical Services (MSS) Division.
 
The Adult Acute Care Unit is a 30-bed, medical surgical unit. We serve a variety of patient populations including the Family Medicine service along with specialized surgical patients. The surgical patients include otolaryngology (ENT), oral surgery, and plastic reconstructive surgery. We are able to provide our patients with all private rooms, which allows for a more comfortable experience for both patients and their families. We have a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team that helps to provide excellent patient care to all patients on our unit. Our goal is to provide each patient an individualized care plan, and provide them the support and care they need and deserve.

Under direct supervision of physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse, performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in an ambulatory setting. Duties may involve the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and/or conventional office equipment. 
Job Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Responsible for facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients, families and staff.</li><li>
Assist in clinic with physical examination of patient and related treatments, including but not limited to: patient history, medication records, allergies and immunizations.</li><li>
Manages internal and external medical records to ensure that accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments.</li><li>

Patient Care Technician - Medical Surgical Cardiology Intermediate Care Unit (4RC) - 50% - Nights

<div>The Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Manager provides clinical leadership to pharmacists, pharmacy specialists, residents, and student interns within the Specialty Pharmacy Program in the Department of Pharmaceutical Care. This role primarily oversees pharmacists embedded within adult and pediatric multidisciplinary clinic teams. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule upon successful completion of orientation.
Responsibilities include: Serving as a leader on the Clinical Oversight Committee and a member of the Quality and Performance Improvement group, while contributing to other relevant committees. Supports development of new healthcare initiatives, identifies opportunities to enhance patient safety, and evaluates clinical services to address gaps and implement solutions. Under general supervision, the Laboratory Technician II performs phlebotomy and a variety of difficult venipuncture procedures, difficult technical procedures, and other associated responsibilities in the clinical laboratory, while maintaining laboratory area and equipment.

Operates, calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments.</li><li>
Performs records and reviews daily quality control as required for assigned testing/instrumentation.</li><li>
Cleans and maintains a medium-sized laboratory area and equipment therein, makes inventory reports and performs simple maintenance on laboratory equipment.</li><li>
Maintains supplies and equipment in medium sized laboratory area and orders additional supplies.</li><li>
Distributes incoming freight, laboratory supplies, environmental samples or biological specimens, and packs outgoing sample or specimen containers.</li><li>
Seeks assistance from the Laboratory Technical Consultant when complex equipment or technical issues arise. Informs the Laboratory Technical Consultant of significant laboratory variances.</li><li>
Responds to, or may direct response to, telephone inquiries regarding laboratory specimens. Investigates and resolves laboratory questions with minimum guidance.</li></ul>

Percent of Time: 50% (20 hours per week)
Schedule: Variable hours Monday, Thursday, and Friday between 7:30 am - 5:00 pm. Thursday hours end at 12:00 pm. No on call time, weekends, or holidays required.

<div>Education Required<ul><li>
Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, OR</li><li>
Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, OR</li><li>
Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.</li></ul>
Special Qualification:<ul><li>
Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.</li><li>
Availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours</li><li>
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.</li></ul>

Previous EPIC experience</li><li>
Previous Family Medicine Clinic experience</li><li>
Strong phlebotomy skills</li></ul>
