The Baillie Group’s, Wagner Lumber, in Owego, NY is hiring for a Procurement Forester. This is a full-time opportunity working for a world class hardwood lumber manufacturer. The person filling this position should be proficient at all duties required of a procurement forester. This includes (but is not limited to) all aspects of locating, assessing, costing and negotiating the purchase and successful harvest of standing timber. The purpose is to supply logs to multiple hardwood sawmills.
 
Procurement Forester Responsibilities: 
<ul>
<li>All aspects of purchasing standing timber.</li>
<li>Locate and mark boundary lines.</li>
<li>Cruise standing timber for quantity.</li>
<li>Appraise timber for quality and value.</li>
<li>Locate skid roads and landing locations.</li>
<li>Apply costs to all aspects of timber sale preparation and harvesting.</li>
<li>All aspects of oversight of harvest of standing timber sales.</li>
<li>Visit harvest sites to determine if BMPs are being used appropriately.</li>
<li>Assure boundary lines are being observed.</li>
<li>Determine whether residual damage is acceptable.</li>
<li>Check to see that the proper trees are being cut.</li>
<li>Due diligence in purchasing.</li>
<li>Title research.</li>
<li>Qualify properties in advance of timber cruising.</li>
<li>Apply for various types of permits.</li>
</ul>
Procurement Forester Qualifications: 
<ul>
<li>A.S. Degree in Forestry or an affiliated discipline</li>
<li>B.S. in Forestry (preferred)</li>
<li>Ability to work in a team atmosphere</li>
<li>Clean driving record required</li>
<li>Good communication skills</li>
<li>Proficient mathematic skills</li>
<li>Northern Hardwood tree ID and map reading skills.</li>
</ul>
Procurement Forester Pay & Benefits: 
<ul>
<li>Minimum - Anticipated Maximum Salary: $55,000 - $85,000/year*</li>
<li>Full Time Hours</li>
<li>Overtime Hours and Pay</li>
<li>Full Plan of Benefits</li>
<li>The advertised pay range represents what Baillie Lumber Co. believes we would anticipate paying for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be compensated at the top of the range for a position as candidates must possess experience and qualifications that far exceed the requirements.*</li>
