 Job Summary
 
 
 
 Performs a variety of specialized supervisory work related to the intake and processing of building permit applications submitted by contractors, developers and/or homeowners. The Clerk is responsible for receiving and reviewing permit applications, issuing construction permits, securing inspection approvals, and providing information and guidance to the public concerning the building permit process. This is a full-time/non-exempt and at-will position with a forty (40) hour workweek.

 Essential Job Functions
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Greets members of the general public at the permit counter; performs work related to the permitting process by accepting and processing building applications for construction permits.
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepares and maintains all records related to the permitting process including, but not limited to, establishing computerized records, filing and scheduling inspections.
 </li>
 <li>
 Enters all required permit data into the department&rsquo;s computerized permitting system.
 </li>
 <li>
 Distributes plans to the appropriate personnel for review and/or inspection.
 </li>
 <li>
 Issues processed and approved permits to the permit applicant.
 </li>
 <li>
 Verifies insurance requirements for all permit requests.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintains an updated database of all contractors performing work within the boundaries of the town.
 </li>
 <li>
 Acts as liaison between the inspectors and the head personnel at the job site, when necessary.
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepares and issues expired permit letters, courtesy notices, and notices of violations and certificates of occupancy.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists the public by telephone or in person and supplies answers to a variety of procedural questions, as well as providing necessary forms and documents to facilitate the building permit process.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists in compiling plans, permits and other documents for public records requests.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs any other duties as assigned by the Building Official or Chief of Code Services. Including but not limited to, preparing reports.

 Education And Experience
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 A High School Diploma or a GED equivalent is required.
 </li>
 <li>
 A bachelor&rsquo;s degree is strongly preferred.
 </li>
 <li>
 Two (2) years prior experience in the construction, architecture or engineering fields is required; experience in a building department or similar is strongly preferred.
 </li>
 <li>
 Knowledge of codes, laws, regulations and ordinances pertaining to the construction permitting process and contractor licensing requirements, desirable.

 Must be fluent in English.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.

 Job Summary
 
 
 
 This is a technical level and essential personnel position. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of complex professional and administrative work, in the Building Department. Under supervision of the Building Official, this position performs technical work associated with the reviewing of structural plans to assure compliance with the Florida Building Code, occasionally performing structural field inspections, and a variety of other duties associated with enforcement of the Florida Building Code.

 None
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Reviews construction plans and inspects construction projects, ordering changes as necessary, so as to enforce the Florida Building Code and related Town ordinances governing minimum standards and requirements of new construction, alterations, repairs and materials used.
 </li>
 <li>
 Receives and reviews applications and plans; answers inquiries and furnishes information pertaining to building codes.
 </li>
 <li>
 Confers with developers and others concerning permit and code requirements.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists Building Official in interpreting provisions of the Florida Building Code.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists in performing inspections as necessary.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists in maintaining records and required reports.
 </li>
 <li>
 Attends meetings of various governing boards, as necessary.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs other related work as required.
 </li>
 <li>
 A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required supplemented by ten (10) years of related experience as a licensed General Contractor, five (5) years of which shall have been in the field within the jurisdiction of the Florida Building Code and five (5) years as a Building Inspector and Plans Examiner with, at least, two (2) years of High-Rise experience or other appropriate qualification as outlined in the code.
 </li>
 <li>
 Associate degree preferred.
 </li>
 <li>
 Miami-Dade County and the State of Florida Building Plans Examiner and Structural Building Inspector certification required.
 </li>
 <li>
 General Contractor&rsquo;s license is required.
 </li>
 <li>
 It is the responsibility of the incumbent to maintain their licenses and/or certifications as a job requirement.

 </ul>

 Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
 </li>

 A valid State of Florida driver&rsquo;s license with acceptable driving record at time of appointment. This must be maintained throughout employment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Must complete a background investigation which includes a national criminal history search, driver&rsquo;s license history check, and a drug screening.
 </li>
