SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION
 The Preschool Assistant Teacher takes direction from and supports the Teacher in conducting classroom activities, maintaining classroom environment and supervising children. The Preschool Assistant Teacher may also assist in planning and record keeping as requested by the Teacher. This position also works with the Teacher to complete other classroom related duties as determined. Helps recruit potential parents by providing information to them about the various program services and benefits offered to enrolled children and families.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Classroom Operations
 1. Assists the teacher with implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children.
 2. Supports the readiness of children for school by assisting in developing their literacy, math, social emotional, early art, science and social studies skills, problem solving abilities, and approaches to learning.
 3. Tends to children's personal hygiene needs, including diaper changing, cleaning, feeding, and changing soiled or wet clothes.
 4. Assists with developmental screenings within the specified timeframes.
 5. Assists the teacher in implementing the daily schedule and weekly lesson plans.
 6. Assists the teacher in data entry for children as requested.
 
Safety & Sanitation
 1. Maintains a safe, clean, care-giving environment, practices good personal hygiene and hand washing, and assures the well-being and safety of all of the children in that environment.
 2. Utilizes disciplinary measures appropriately as outlined in the Behavior Guidance Policies and Procedures.
 3. Protects all children from physical punishment or verbal abuse by anyone in any program activity, and immediately reports any such incident to the person in charge.
 4. Provides for the physical safety of each child from arrival time until departure time.
 5. Posts and complies with safety, sanitation and other guidelines for serving enrolled children (i.e., Child Care Licensing Standards, Head Start Performance Standards, Tri-Valley policy).
 6. Assures that safety and sanitation policies and procedures are followed appropriately.
 7. Assures that children are dressed appropriately for the weather and type of play in which they are engaged.
 8. Assures that children are supervised at all times.
 9. Have or obtain within 90 days of hire a First Aid and CPR Certification as well as maintain the certification during employment. Administer First Aid and/or CPR when necessary.
 
Physical Arrangement
 1. Assists the teacher in planning and arranging an environment and room arrangement for children which is supportive and appropriate to meet their needs according to NAEYC’s Developmentally Appropriate Practices and the Creative Curriculum guidelines.
 2. Assists the teacher in creating developmentally appropriate and well-defined activity areas in the classroom.
 3. Assists the teacher in assuring sufficient and appropriate materials are displayed in orderly and accessible fashion.
 4. Assists the teacher in assuring indoor/outdoor areas are safe, secure, and provides a variety of opportunities for children to explore.
 5. Assists the teacher in assuring physical environment is child-sized.
 
Communication
 1. Maintains an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child and family.
 2. Greets children and their parents/guardians warmly and with enthusiasm.
 3. Maintains a cooperative attitude of working together with other staff, parents/guardians and volunteers in planning and implementing activities for the program/classroom.
 4. Maintains a positive, calm attitude and a pleasant, soothing voice, and models this attitude and voice for parents/guardians and others working or volunteering in the program.
 
Schedules, Plans and Transitions
 1. Implements transition activities to assist children with changes in the environment as determined by teacher.
 2. Follow established routines to help children gain a sense of security.
 3. Assists the teacher in creating intentional teaching opportunities in preparation for school readiness.
 
Individualizing
 1. Assists the teacher in determining the needs of children and expedites services accordingly.
 2. Assists the teacher in observations for individual children.
 3. Assists in the planning and conducts activities with the child that creates a developmentally appropriate and varied range of opportunities to explore and experience which meet the individual needs of the child.
 
Parent Contact and Involvement
 1. Assists in conducting parent conferences and home visits as requested.
 2. Assist in providing ongoing contact with families via telephone calls, notes or visits, documenting activity on contact sheets.
 3. Attends Parent Meetings as requested.
 4. Helps arrange parent/guardian volunteers, welcome them and utilizes their skills in the classroom.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 1. Demonstrated competency to provide effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions; plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment and promote children’s progress across program standards.
 2. Comfortable working with computers, willing and able to learn program specific systems as needed for position.

 The Infant/Toddler Teacher is responsible for classroom operation including planning, carrying out activities, maintaining the classroom environment, supervising children, establishing and holding parent/teacher conferences/home visits. The Teacher provides leadership and direction to other staff within the classroom and cooperates with other staff in providing services for the children and their parents. This position is responsible for data entry and record keeping responsibility for the children within their classroom as well as overall planning for children served in their classroom.  5. Promotes social and emotional development of children.
 6. Assumes overall classroom responsibility and data entry for all children served in their classroom.

 4. Shares family-style meal; models manners and good nutrition.

 2. Completes timely, neat, accurate documentation as required.
 3. Maintains and documents communication with families.
 4. Collects and charts data and other assessment to determine the developmental level of individual children.
 5. Uses assessment data to promote children’s progress.

 2. Prepares and distributes take home activities for parents.
 3. Provides ongoing contact with families via telephone calls, notes or visits, documenting activity on contact sheets.

 6. Helps arrange parent volunteers, welcome them and utilizes their skills in the classroom.
 7. Provide Family Services support and goal setting as determined by program needs.

Teacher in Training

HEAD START - RXII - Infant/Toddler Teacher, Seasonal

SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION
 The Custodian is responsible for the cleaning of and disinfecting of the Head Start facility. Assists the local personnel in the setting up and breaking down of the facility; which includes carrying materials and loading/unloading materials. Ensures the Head Start Facility is clean, safe, and properly maintained. Helps recruit potential parents by providing information to them about the various program services and benefits offered to enrolled children and families.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Set-Up
 1. Assists in the setting up of the Head Start Center.
 2. Participates in orientation and training.
 3. Loads, unloads, and transports center materials.
 
Center Operations- Maintenance
 1. Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, cleaning restrooms, washing windows, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
 2. Cleans materials in the Head Start Center.
 3. Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal. Recycles materials as needed.
 4. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvements of workplace safety and environmental practices.
 5. May assist with minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting/moving furniture, or other similar actions.
 6. Performs limited grounds maintenance as applicable such as mowing, trimming trees and hedges, weed control,
 snow removal and general grounds upkeep including but not limited to keeping the grounds free of rubbish and
 debris.
 7. Operates basic tools and equipment used in routine maintenance such as, but not limited to; lawn mower, weed
 whip, snow blower, shovel, vacuum, broom and mop.
 8. Performs other general cleaning and maintenance as requested by Center Manager.
 
Center Operations- Custodial
 1. Assists in the operation of the Head Start center.
 2. Brings necessary materials to classrooms, offices, restrooms.
 3. Assists in the storage of infant and toddler seats.
 4. Assists in the ordering of and receiving of deliveries.
 5. Unlocks & locks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
 6. Offers recommendations to, and reports needs & concerns to the Head Start Center Manager regarding the smooth operation of the Head Start Center.
 
Center Operations- Break-Down
 1. Boxes and otherwise stores center materials.
 2. Loads and transports center materials.
 3. Stores center materials in a safe environment.
 4. Performs other closing out tasks as required.
 
Safety Compliance
 1. Completes safety awareness training specific to the position before performing essential functions of the job, as new safety sensitive duties are assumed, annually, and as requested to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
 2. Follows precautionary measures to prevent injury and illness resulting from exposure to hazardous substances, sharp and/or moving parts, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
 3. Does not cut grass or trim landscaping with electric or motorized equipment when children and/or staff are in immediate area.
 4. Does not move snow with a snow blower when children and/or staff are in immediate area.
 5. Must wear long pants and eyewear when operating or working around lawn mower, weed trimmer, and other equipment that may cause flying debris.
 6. Must wear appropriate clothing for snow blowing, shoveling, salting, etc.
 7. Have or obtain within 90 days of hire a First Aid and CPR Certification as well as maintain the certification during employment.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 1. Must be at least 16 years of age; candidates are strongly encouraged to obtain their high school diploma or GED.
 2. Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning tools and substances.
