To build upon a track record of growth and success, we are looking to add a Research Chemist to join our team in Dexter, MI. The Research Chemist will maintain responsibility in performing chemical research independently and providing process support for the designated product line for Trucent's oleochemical business space. In addition to developing/implementing and running analytical protocols in support of the lab research activities, this position will be responsible for planning, designing, and executing laboratory experiments related to chemical synthesis and product separations/purifications.

POSITION FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:<ul><li>
Conduct and monitor chemical experiments in laboratory and assist scale-up and/or commercial operations.</li><li>
Develop new separation and purification methods for the oleochemical industry.</li><li>
Develop and/or implement analytical methods in support of the lab's research activities.</li><li>
Actively participate in organic synthesis and workup for production of oleochemicals.</li><li>
Set up and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.</li><li>
Perform analytical tests on products and intermediates to ensure that they meet the desired specifications during the laboratory development, scale-up and commercial testing stages.</li><li>
Document and cure laboratory analysis results in detailed databases.</li><li>
Prepare detailed reports and presentations about the research, including literature review, research methods, data analysis, results, and conclusions.</li><li>
Maintain an organized laboratory notebook and manage an electronic database of historical research results.</li><li>
Work under guidance of a team of experienced scientists and engineers.</li></ul>

Must concentrate mental and visual attention closely on work, coordinating manual dexterity with mental and visual attention for sustained periods.</li><li>
Concentrated attention with the ability to judge distance and space relationships, identify and distinguish colors and bring objects within 20 inches into clear focus.</li><li>
Light physical demand with lifting of negligible (5 lb.) objects by hand.</li></ul>
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions (Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job):<ul><li>
Inside conditions with exposure to physical hazards (chemicals) and adverse atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dust, gases, acids).</li><li>
Protective equipment that may be required includes safety glasses, gloves, goggles, lab coat, chemical proof shoes, respirator, and/or mask.</li></ul>
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education:<ul><li>
Bachelor's degree in chemistry required (minimum)</li></ul>
Experience:<ul><li>
Up to 3 years relevant experience in a Process Chemistry lab preferred but not required. Experience in a university lab as a student employee is valuable.</li></ul>
Skills and Abilities (May be representative but not all-inclusive, of those commonly associated with this position):<ul><li>
Knowledge of good laboratory practices.</li><li>
Knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and related lab techniques.</li><li>
Experience in using analytical instruments (e.g., HPLC, GC-FID, GC-MS, ICP-OES) is preferred.</li><li>
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel and ability to learn new software tools quickly.</li><li>
Experience in using statistical design of experiments for optimization of processing conditions.</li><li>
Strong written and verbal communication skills.</li><li>
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.</li><li>
A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks independently.</li><li>
Demonstrated passion for research and strong, analytical problem-solving skills.</li><li>
Energetic, growth-minded attitude.</li><li>
Ability to manage multiple projects by organizing and prioritizing work assignments and goals.</li><li>
