This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit, highly respected firm and play a critical role in supporting sophisticated appellate and litigation matters.</p>
<p>
The <b>Paralegal / Legal Assistant</b> provides direct case-related, administrative, and filing support to attorneys. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong formatting skills, and the ability to manage tight and overlapping deadlines. Prior litigation-related administrative experience is required. Familiarity with Michigan&rsquo;s court structure and e-filing systems is essential. While appellate experience is preferred, it is not required.</p>
<p>
The <b>Paralegal / Legal Assistant</b> reports directly to the Office Manager and supports all attorneys of the firm.</p>
<h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Key Responsibilities of the Paralegal / Legal Assistant:</b></h3>
<h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>1. Calendar &amp; Deadline Management</b></h4>
<ul><li>Maintain and update the firm&rsquo;s Google calendar and internal deadline-tracking systems</li>
<li>Monitor upcoming deadlines and proactively follow up with attorneys to ensure all filings are timely and accurate</li>
</ul><h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>2. Case Support</b></h4>
<ul><li>Format and proofread appellate briefs and filings in compliance with Michigan Court Rules</li>
<li>Prepare Tables of Contents and Indexes of Authorities</li>
<li>Compile, organize, finalize, and electronically bookmark appendices and exhibits</li>
<li>Format and proofread circuit court filings, including:
<ul><li>Motions for summary disposition</li>
<li>Motions in limine</li>
<li>Jury instructions</li>
<li>Post-trial motions and orders</li>
</ul></li><li>Organize exhibits and supporting materials</li>
<li>Coordinate and complete court filings via e-filing systems and paper filing</li>
<li>Track all submitted and filed copies of court documents</li>
<li>Assist with trial and hearing preparation</li>
<li>Draft initial versions of orders, attorney appearances, notices of hearing, praecipes, and other legal documents for attorney review</li>
</ul><h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>3. Transcript Ordering &amp; Management</b></h4>
<ul><li>Order, track, and manage transcripts</li>
<li>Coordinate with court reporters and monitor delivery timelines</li>
<li>Maintain organized transcript files for use in trial and appellate proceedings</li>
</ul><h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>4. File Management &amp; Administrative Support</b></h4>
<ul><li>Download, organize, and maintain digital and physical case files in compliance with firm protocols</li>
<li>Prepare binders and case materials for attorneys</li>
<li>Provide general administrative and document-management support as needed</li>
</ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Qualifications</b></h3>
<ul><li>Prior litigation-related administrative or paralegal experience (required)</li>
<li>Familiarity with Michigan courts and e-filing systems (required)</li>
<li>Strong legal formatting and proofreading skills</li>
<li>Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail</li>
<li>Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment</li>
</ul>
<p><i>All candidates must be able to work at a computer screen for a sustained amount of time. Infrequent lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.</i></p>
