The legal team at Turo is expanding and looking to add a dynamic, practical, and proactive product and privacy counsel to support Turo&rsquo;s growing business. This role reports to the Senior Director, Associate General Counsel, Privacy &amp; Product, and serves as legal partner to most teams across Turo. Collaboration will be a crucial attribute as this role will work closely with legal team members globally and support various business teams. This position can be located in our Phoenix, Arizona, San Francisco, California, or Toronto, Canada office.</div><div><br>
What you will do</div><ul><li><div>
Deliver clear, actionable, easy-to-understand, and practical legal advice to the various business functions, including product, engineering, security, marketing, and operations.</div></li><li><div>
Partner closely with Turo&rsquo;s engineering security team to provide legal and strategic advice on a range of matters, including vendor due diligence, third party privacy and security assessments, governance, risk and compliance, and privacy and security incident response.</div></li><li><div>
Build positive and influential relationships company-wide through trusted advising, knowledge-sharing, and training.</div></li><li><div>
Perform legal reviews of new products, features, and market expansions and advise on how to position and structure these launches to reduce risk while growing the business profitably.</div></li><li><div>
Track and analyze proposed, pending, and new domestic and global privacy, data security, and consumer legislation that could impact the business and recommend necessary modifications to practices.</div></li><li><div>
Effectively collaborate with regional and global colleagues to (i) provide globally aligned legal advice that appropriately balances domestic and global perspectives and needs; and (ii) participate in global workstreams.</div></li><li><div>
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and improve Turo&rsquo;s data protection and security policies, standards, and practices, to ensure they meet global legal requirements.</div></li><li><div>
Negotiate and draft data processing agreements and AI regulatory terms in customer and vendor agreements.</div></li><li><div>
Conduct privacy due diligence reviews and privacy impact assessments.</div></li></ul><div></div><div>
Your profile</div><ul><li><div>
JD degree from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in the state (province and/or country) in which you work.</div></li><li><div>
Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or similar certification preferred, but not required.</div></li><li><div>
Have 3+ years of legal experience, including applicable in-house consumer-focused experience, preferably at a late-stage (or public) tech company with a global footprint.</div></li><li><div>
You are collaborative, pragmatic, flexible, comfortable operating in gray areas, business-focused, and highly skilled at prioritization and multitasking.</div></li><li><div>
You are knowledgeable on applicable legal and regulatory concerns, including data protection, privacy, and consumer protection laws.</div></li><li><div>
Flexibility and willingness to work with all levels of the organization and to roll up your sleeves to get the job done. You are motivated, organized, and creative. You can research and master complex legal topics and communicate them to non-lawyers in brief, clear, pragmatic language. You are patient, calm under pressure, respectful to your co-workers, and bring a positive attitude to the office.</div></li></ul><div><br>

For this role, the target base salary range in San Francisco is $192,000 - $240,000 USD annually and the target base salary range in Toronto is $139,000 - $174,000 CAD. This role is also eligible for equity and benefits. In general, our ranges reflect the market-based target for new hire salaries based on the level and location of the role. Within the range, individual pay is determined by objective factors assessed during the application and interview process, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule &mdash; Turists will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
