Comer Emergency Department is a 21-bed, Level 1 Pediatric Academic Trauma Center dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based care to the children of South Side of Chicago and beyond. With 2 trauma bays, 1 special procedures room and a dedicated resuscitation bay, we are equipped to handle the most critical situations. </div><div></div><div>The Emergency Room Technician assists and augments the registered nursing staff in providing high quality patient care in the Mitchell and Comer emergency rooms. The ERT must demonstrate the expertise and competency of all required skills in accordance with Illinois State law.<br>
</div><div></div><div><b>Essential Job Functions
</b></div><ul><li>Transporting patients throughout hospital as needed
</li><li>Keeping supplies and linen at par levels in assigned areas.
</li><li>Performing and maintaining POC testing and EKG, which includes QC and transmitting of data.
</li><li>Assisting RN&rsquo;s with patient care as needed and/or requested, within limits of the law and/or policy.
</li><li>Sitting with medically/psychologically compromised patients.
</li><li>Maintaining a clean work environment by preparing ED rooms for the next patient when necessary.
</li>Performs other duties assigned.<br>

</b></div><ul><li>High school graduate or equivalent.
</li><li>C.N.A with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience, or
</li><li>M.A. with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience, or
</li><li>EMT-B or EMT-P
</li><li>Must have current Basic Life Support certification through The American Heart Association
</li><li>Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform a variety of patient assistance without direct supervision.
</li>Ability to interact effectively with patients, clinical staff, and the general public.<br>

As a OR Scheduling Coordinator, you will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of surgical scheduling operations. This role partners closely with physicians, patients, and office teams to ensure accurate, timely scheduling, proper documentation, and seamless case preparation within the EMR system. In addition to managing surgical block schedules and required consents, this position is cross-trained to support front desk operations and insurance verification, contributing to a smooth and efficient patient experience.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
Essential Job Functions</b></div><br>

Coordinate and schedule surgical cases, prepare consents, and maintain surgical block schedules to ensure efficient operating room utilization.</li><li>
Communicate with surgeons&rsquo; offices to verify patient records, CPT codes, and procedural details; proactively coordinate and communicate schedule changes with appropriate departments and staff to optimize room and equipment usage.</li><li>
Verify patient insurance coverage and registration information; obtain pre-authorizations and approvals; communicate with insurance carriers; and prepare accurate good faith estimates.</li><li>
Maintain effective working relationships with physicians, leadership, and staff across the Medical Center; collaborate with UCM entities to gather information, resolve issues, support projects, and fulfill committee or departmental assignments as directed.</li><li>
Support physician credentialing processes for both the Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) by partnering with the UCM Medical Staff Office to ensure timely and accurate completion of required documentation.</li><li>
Perform front desk responsibilities, including patient registration and payment collection.</li><li>
Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned.</li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>
Required Qualifications</b></div><br>

2+ years of relevant experience in healthcare setting</li><li>
Minimum 1 year of work experience in surgery scheduling
</li><li>Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations</li><li>
Ability to utilize electronic medical record system(s)</li><li>
Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information</li><li>
A thorough understanding and knowledge of medical terminology, different surgery types, CPT codes, medical equipment</li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>
