Brief Job Overview
We are seeking a high-energy, Senior AI Engineer focused on rapid prototyping of AI applications across the enterprise. Working as an independent contributor, you'll partner with our digital teams and enterprise platform teams &mdash; Oracle EBS ERP, Salesforce, Data Engineering, Cloud Commerce, Custom Applications, and Pega BPM &mdash; to identify high-value AI opportunities and turn them into working prototypes that demonstrate business impact.
This is a hands-on builder role for someone who thrives on breadth: one week you might prototype an intelligent document extractor for ERP invoice processing, the next a RAG-based knowledge assistant for customer service in Salesforce, and the next an agentic workflow inside Pega. You bring the AI expertise; the platform teams bring the domain and integration knowledge.

As the Senior AI Engineer, your responsibilities include:
<ul><li>Prototype AI solutions across USP's enterprise application landscape &mdash; LLM apps, RAG systems, intelligent agents, document AI, classification, summarization, and more.</li>
<li>Partner with digital and enterprise platform teams (EBS, Salesforce, Data Eng, Cloud Commerce, Custom Apps, Pega) to identify pain points AI can address; jointly scope proofs-of-concept.</li>
<li>Demonstrate business value through working prototypes, evaluations, and demos to IT leadership and business stakeholders &mdash; with clear metrics on quality, cost, and effort saved.</li>
<li>Recommend production paths &mdash; advise which prototypes are ready to hand off to platform teams for productionization, what infrastructure/guardrails they'll need, and where USP should invest.</li>
<li>Establish AI patterns and reusable components &mdash; prompt libraries, evaluation harnesses, connector patterns &mdash; so successful prototypes accelerate.</li>
<li>Champion responsible AI &mdash; apply USP's AI Policy, ensure privacy/compliance considerations (21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA where relevant, data handling standards) are addressed from the prototype stage.</li>
<li>Stay ahead of the field &mdash; evaluate emerging models, frameworks, and vendors; make informed recommendations aligned with USP's approved tech stack.</li>
</ul>Who is USP Looking For?
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:
<ul><li>6+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years building applied AI/ML solutions (LLM apps, RAG, agents, or classical ML in production or advanced prototypes), or equivalent experience.</li>
<li>Strong Python; hands-on with modern AI frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, or equivalent).</li>
<li>Direct experience with LLM APIs (Claude, GPT, Gemini, or similar), prompt engineering, and evaluation techniques.</li>
<li>Experience building RAG pipelines with vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, Azure AI Search, etc.).</li>
<li>Comfort integrating with enterprise systems via REST APIs, webhooks, and event-driven patterns.</li>
<li>Cloud proficiency &mdash; AWS or Azure preferred; containerization (Docker) familiarity.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently &mdash; scoping ambiguous problems, choosing tools, shipping working software without a dedicated team around you.</li>
<li>Excellent communication &mdash; able to explain AI capabilities and limitations to non-technical stakeholders and translate business problems into AI approaches.</li>
<li>Education: Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.</li>
</ul>Additional Desired Preferences
<ul><li>Experience prototyping AI in regulated industries (pharma, healthcare, life sciences, standards bodies).</li>
<li>Experience with agentic frameworks, tool use, and orchestration (LangGraph, CrewAI, Claude Agent SDK, etc.).</li>
<li>Knowledge of MLOps practices &mdash; evaluation pipelines, model versioning, observability.</li>
<li>Awareness of 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, GxP, or comparable compliance frameworks.</li>

Compensation
Base Salary Range: USD $100,042.00 &ndash; $142,560.00 annually.

How will YOU create impact here at USP?
The Account Manager is leading the execution of the commercial strategy for USP portfolio of standards and materials in a West Coast United States territory. This is an important, non-supervisory role responsible for driving revenues growth, expanding market presence, and accelerating USP&rsquo;s impact across the pharmaceutical industry in United States.
In this role, you will be accountable for meeting revenues and units growth annual targets in your assigned territory. To achieve this, you will foster customer relationships at all levels and collaborate with multiple internal USP functions including Technical and Customer Service, Marketing, Regulatory and Scientific Affairs to deliver unmatched customer experiences.
Your activities will include regular account management and business development customer visits, business leads follow up and lead generation activities.
You will lead creation and execution of accounts plans to position USP portfolio of standards for long term growth. Your focus will be on identifying, understanding and supporting resolution of key quality challenges that developers and manufacturers of pharmaceutical drugs are routinely facing.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated and results driven. They will enjoy working with people collaboratively, strengthening customer relationships, and developing their network in the pharmaceutical industry community.

The position is based in West Coast (Los Angeles preferred).

The Account Manager has the following responsibilities:
Revenue Growth:
<ul><li>Achieve revenues and units growth target for his/ her/ their territory and accounts.</li>
<li>Develop and execute plans to protect and grow revenues at existing accounts and drive new customer&rsquo;s acquisition. Manage sales activities in Salesforce CRM.</li>
<li>Collaborate with business support functions (Marketing, Inside Sales, Science team..) and support the execution of revenues growth initiatives in his/ her/ their territory.</li>
<li>Identify and influence key decision makers in the buying process toward USP products and services.</li>
<li>Responsible for following up on sales qualified leads.</li>
<li>Identify and unlock opportunities, to position USP as a leader in pharmaceutical drugs standards.</li>
</ul>Customer Engagement:
<ul><li>Cultivate and strengthen customer relationships at all levels, positioning USP as a trusted advisor to pharmaceutical developers and manufacturers.</li>
<li>Partner with customers to understand and help address critical quality challenges in pharmaceutical drugs development and manufacturing.</li>
<li>Partner with Scientific Affairs, Science and Marketing teams to deliver seamless and differentiated customer experiences through organization of customer events.</li>
<li>Attend industry trade shows, conferences, and professional forums as appropriate, elevating the organization&rsquo;s visibility and influence.</li>
</ul>Data-Driven Insights &amp; Sales Intelligence:
<ul><li>Use of Salesforce CRM and data analytics to track sales performances and inform your actions.</li>
<li>Analyze and interpret your territory sales data&mdash;direct and through distributors&mdash;to identify revenue opportunities and provide strategic business reviews.</li>
<li>Gather and consolidate market and customer feedback, providing actionable recommendations to Global Marketing and Strategy teams as appropriate.</li>
</ul>Who is USP Looking For?

<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in a life sciences discipline (preferably analytical chemistry, chemistry) with a minimum of 5-years professional experience in life sciences industry.</li>
<li>At least 3 years of experience as an account manager in life sciences industry, with a track record of consistently meeting sales targets.</li>
<li>Proven experience in selling products or services to pharma and biopharma accounts (PD labs and QC labs target functions)</li>
<li>Familiarity with pharmaceutical drugs manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Quality Control and clinical development process.</li>
<li>Strong problem-solving skills with customer-centric approach.</li>
<li>Bias to action and results driven with a track record of successful outcomes.</li>
