JOB SUMMARY: 
 
Responsible for assisting the OT, OTA, PT, PTA, and OT/OTA and PT/PTA students with patient treatments, maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies, housekeeping duties and any other assigned duties while in the acute setting. Adheres to policies, procedures, and standards of practice as defined by and/or stated by the 1) American Occupational Therapy Association, 2) Texas State Occupational Therapy Practice Act, 3) American Physical Therapy Association, 4) Texas State Physical Therapy Practice Act, 5)DNV, 6) UMC Standard Policy and Procedure Manual, 7) PM&amp;R Policy and Procedure Manual.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
<ul><li>Monitors patients in routine exercise programs including passive, active assistive, active and
</li></ul>Resistive ROM programs as instructed by the PT/PTA or OT/OTA 
<ul><li>Monitors patients in gait training activities, using any weight bearing precautions, and using
</li></ul>assistive equipment as instructed by the therapist 
<ul><li>Assists the therapist with monitoring patient safety while performing ADL&rsquo;s and transfers.</li><li>Performs modalities appropriately as directed by the PT/PTA or OT/OTA and be aware of major
</li></ul>precautions and contraindications for modalities including but not limited to continuous passive
 
motion (CPM) machines, hot and cold treatments, coban wrap, paraffin baths, fluidotherapy,
 
whirlpool, ultrasound and splint checks. 
<ul><li>Monitors patient transfers and be able to perform transfers in a safe manner while using proper
</li></ul>body mechanics and assist PT/PTA or OT/OTA as needed. 
<ul><li>Performs routine daily/weekly or monthly housekeeping duties including but not limited to
</li></ul>cleaning patient care areas with disinfectant after patient use, disposing of soiled linens properly,
 
and maintaining storage areas in a neat and orderly fashion.

</li></ul>patient lists, discussion with nursing staff to prepare patient for PT/PTA or OT/OTA treatments,
 
and prepare patient for next PT/PTA or OT/OTA session.

1. Assign accurate diagnosis codes for outpatient, ancillary laboratory, and diagnostic services. 
2. Maintain current knowledge of coding guidelines, regulatory requirements, and medical billing processes. 
3. Perform coding quality reviews and audits as assigned. 
4. Troubleshoot and resolve SVC (Simple Visit Coding) errors while identifying process improvement opportunities to prevent billing delays.

Day Surgery 
 
Departmental Description: 
 
Outpatient Surgery has identified its scope of care to include pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia care and post procedural care; specifically to prepare the patient for surgery/procedure by assessing and evaluating the patients physical status via nursing assessment, by providing pre-operative or pre-procedure teaching/education, to assist the patient in returning to a safe physiological level after local, or local with sedation anesthesia, regional anesthesia, or completion of Phase I (PACU) care following general anesthesia, and to prepare the patient for discharge home. The American Society of Peri-Anesthesia Nurses, Peri-Anesthesia Nursing Standards, Practice Recommendations, and Interpretive Statements provide the guidelines for patient care. 
The Department of Anesthesiology provides medical direction and coverage with full time attending and resident physician staff and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) on a 24-hours a day, 7 days a week basis. A multi-disciplinary approach to nursing care is utilized in all OPS areas. 
Therapies include pre-operative preparation specific to the individual patient, diagnosis, and operative procedure; post-operative observation and evaluation of hemodynamic stability, administration of oxygen and pulse oximetry; arterial/venous sheath monitoring and removal, and written discharge instructions for home care and follow-up care. Anesthetic agents are not administered in the Outpatient Surgery Department. 
Outpatient Surgery is open Monday through Friday 0530-2200 and is closed on holidays and weekends. A standby team exists for coverage of unexpected Saturday/holiday cases.

Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for optimal continuity of care. Duties also include filling in for clinical liaison.
 
 
Qualifications: 
 
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing 
Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License 
Must maintain a current BLS certification from American Heart Association 
Minimum of 1 year of acute care experience
 
BSN
 
CPAN/CAPA certification preferred
