<div><div><b>GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES</b>: United Digestive&rsquo;s (UD) Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and management with all clinical, clerical, and organizational tasks revolving around patient care. Manages patient charts and assumes responsibility for resolving patient requests including test results, prescription refills, and general healthcare questions.</div><div>
</div><div><b>REPORTS TO:</b> Practice Manager
</div><div><b>RESPONSIBILITIES</b><br>
Duties include but are not limited to:</div><ul><li>
Monitors schedule and organizes patient flow for physician office visits or in-office procedures</li><li>
Accompanies patients to exam room, triages, collects patient history, and provides physical assessments as delegated by the physicians</li><li>
Schedules and obtains results for testing, procedures, and other services as ordered by the physician; interprets and accurately communicates results to physicians and patients as necessary</li><li>
Performs or assists physician with in-office ancillary services, procedures, and specialty services
</li><li>Manages patient charts to ensure clinical information is complete, including scanning forms into the EMR in a timely manner</li><li>
Prepares charts in the EMR prior to the physician visit according to practice process</li><li>
Has knowledge of drug uses and dosage requirements; ensures sample medications are up to date</li><li>
Enters requests for prescription refills into the EMR</li><li>
Performs upkeep for exam rooms with regards to sterilization and infection control, supplies, and equipment</li><li>
Accurately provides or counsels patients and/or relatives with pertinent information regarding medical treatment or procedures</li><li>
Answers emails and voicemails and returns patient calls in a timely and efficient manner</li><li>
Completes requests for information from other UD staff and ensures that they are handled promptly and effectively to guarantee payment on patient accounts</li><li>
Abides by and promotes HIPAA compliance; maintains strictest confidentiality with regards to patient information</li><li>
Participates in staff meetings as directed by the Practice Manager</li><li>
Cross trains and performs other office functions including phone triage, check-in/check-out, scheduling, pre-certification, or other duties as directed by the Practice Manager</li><li>
Performs any other duties and/or special projects as assigned</li></ul><div>
</div><div><b>REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS &amp; EXPERIENCE</b><br>
Current Certified or Registered Medical Assistant, or equivalent experience required; CPR certification preferred; 2-3 years of specialty clinical experience, gastroenterology experience preferred. Medical Assistant must be computer literate and able to operate various healthcare systems and multiple Microsoft Office applications.</div><div>

 Responsible for the CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding of endoscopy center procedures, hospital charges and other services performed by the physicians and advanced practice providers of UD.

  RESPONSIBILIITES

  Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
  <br/>
  <br/>
 </strong>
 <ul>
  <li>
   Accurate coding of services provided by United Digestive, LLC physicians, including assigning the correct ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  </li>
  <li>
   Research difficult coding questions thoroughly in order to maintain high quality standards.
  </li>
  <li>
   Provides support to management, staff and physicians in determining accurate coding and billing practices.
  </li>
  <li>
   Participates in coding audits and educational endeavors as directed by RCM leadership
  </li>
  <li>
   Maintains certification by completing required CEUs and training courses.
  </li>
  <li>
   Continues personal education by attending seminars and classes as needed.
  </li>
  <li>
   Stays up to date on changes and updates to the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and diagnosis codes.
  </li>
  <li>
   Understands and abides by CMS guidelines in coding.
  </li>
  <li>
   Meets or exceeds quality and productivity standards as set by RCM leadership
  </li>
  <li>

  Required Education, Skills And Experience

 </strong>
 Certified Coder required. High School Diploma or GED required; proficiency in Evaluation and Management Level of service coding required. 2-3 years of specialty clinical experience, gastroenterology experience preferred. Employee must be computer literate and able to operate Practice Management Software, electronic medical records system and multiple Microsoft Office applications.
