United Therapeutics (Nasdaq: UTHR) seeks to travel down the corridors of indifference to develop treatments for rare, deadly diseases. We were founded in 1996 by a family seeking a cure for their daughter&rsquo;s pulmonary arterial hypertension( PAH). Today, we have six FDA-approved therapies that treat PAH, pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD) and neuroblastoma, a rare pediatric cancer. Our near-term pipeline seeks to develop additional therapies for PAH and pulmonary fibrosis (PF).</div><div>
The cure for end-stage life-threatening diseases like PAH, PH-ILD, PF, and many others is an organ transplant, but only a small percentage of donated organs are available to address the vast need. For this reason, we are working to create bio-artificial organs to address the shortage of kidneys, hearts, lungs, and livers available for transplant. We believe an unlimited supply of tolerable, transplantable organs will eliminate the transplant waiting list and cure end-stage organ diseases for which transplant is not currently an option.</div><div></div><div>
The selected intern will need to report onsite at the Silver Spring, MD office for the entire duration of the program which runs from May through August 2026. United Therapeutics does not provide housing or transportation. A stipend for relocation assistance may be provided on a case-by-case basis.</div><div></div><div>

Program Details:</div><ul><li>
All internships are paid, up to 40 hours/week.</li><li>
Interns are responsible for arranging their housing and transportation. A relocation stipend may be provided for non-local candidates. Determinations will be made on a case-by-case basis.</li><li>

How you&rsquo;ll contribute<br>
UT&rsquo;s computational systems biology lab in Silver Spring, MD is building an in silico model of the lung to support drug development and organ manufacturing. In this role you will play an important role in supporting mathematical models of molecular and physiological processes that regulate lung function, disease, and drug response.</div><br>
<ul><li>
Develop computational models of lung function under healthy and disease conditions, to include any of the following approaches: ODE-based models of biochemical reaction networks, PDE-based models of fluid and mass transport, or agent-based models of cell behavior.</li><li>
Complement mechanistic model development with machine learning approaches</li><li>
Identify data in the literature and public repositories suitable for training and validating mathematical models</li><li>
Apply models to support decision-making in drug development and tissue engineering projects</li><li>
Perform all other duties as required</li></ul><div><br>
For this role you will need</div><div>
Minimum Requirements</div><ul><li>
Must be currently enrolled in a Master&rsquo;s or PhD program in a science/engineering discipline</li><li>
Must be available to work 40 hours per week onsite in the Silver Spring, MD office</li><li>
Must be proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: Julia, Python, or R</li><li>
Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite</li></ul><div></div><div><br>
