Target Grades: 6&ndash;12 (IEP/504 Management) | 9&ndash;12 (Direct Instruction)
Reports To: SPED/504 Process Director
Job Summary
The Upper School Special Education/504 Teacher is responsible for managing the educational success and legal compliance for students with diverse learning needs. This role involves providing direct instructional services to students in grades 9&ndash;12 while overseeing the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans for students across the entire secondary spectrum (grades 6&ndash;12).
Key Responsibilities
Direct Instructional Services (Grades 9&ndash;12)<ul><li>
Provide specialized academic instruction to students in grades 9&ndash;12 in accordance with their IEP goals.</li><li>
Implement various teaching strategies, including co-teaching, small group intervention, and one-on-one support.</li><li>
Adapt and modify general education curriculum to ensure accessibility and student progress toward graduation requirements.</li></ul>
Case Management &amp; Compliance (Grades 6&ndash;12)<ul><li>
Serve as the primary Case Manager for students with IEPs in grades 6&ndash;12, ensuring all documentation meets state and federal IDEA regulations.</li><li>
Draft, facilitate, and finalize comprehensive IEPs, including transition planning for students age 14 and older.</li><li>
Lead IEP and 504 team meetings, collaborating with parents, general education teachers, and related service providers.</li></ul>
504 Coordination &amp; Testing Accommodations<ul><li>
Oversee the 504 process for grades 6&ndash;12, including initial eligibility determinations and annual reviews.</li><li>
Coordinate and supervise the delivery of testing accommodations for classroom assessments, NWEA, state testing, and College Board/ACT exams.</li><li>
Maintain accurate records of student accommodations to ensure consistency across all learning environments.</li></ul>
Collaboration &amp; Advocacy<ul><li>
Consult with classroom teachers regarding accommodations and specific classroom modifications.</li><li>
Monitor student progress through data collection and provide quarterly progress reports to families.</li><li>
Advocate for student needs to ensure an inclusive and equitable school culture.</li><li>
Responsible for entering accommodations for NWEA and providing MAP/EOC accommodations to the District Testing Coordinator.</li></ul>
Qualifications<ul><li>
Education: Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Special Education (Master&rsquo;s preferred).</li><li>
Certification: Valid State Teaching License in Special Education (Secondary/6-12).</li><li>
Experience: Proven experience in writing compliant IEPs and managing 504 plans at the secondary level.</li><li>
Skills: Proficiency in Special Education management software; strong knowledge of secondary transition requirements; excellent communication and organizational skills.</li></ul>
