Under frequent supervision, transports patients, supplies and equipment to and from all departments within the medical center. Expedites Emergency Department room turnover and patient placement. Patients served include infant to adult geriatric.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Transports 
<ul><li>
Identifies patient verbally and/or by wristband.</li><li>
Signs patient in/out on floor log sheet and lets staff know patient is leaving or returning to unit.</li><li>
Transports patient to correct department.</li><li>
Provides assistance to the Transport RN as needed.</li><li>
Knows how to handle oneself in an emergency situation.</li><li>
Transports patients to morgue with respect.</li><li>
Uses safety measures/standards when transporting a patient with oxygen.</li></ul> 
Transport Equipment 
<ul><li>
Ensures equipment is returned to proper storage area.</li><li>
Identifies, removes from service, tags, and reports any malfunctions with equipment.</li></ul> 
Supply Delivery and Pick-up 
<ul><li>
Specimens are picked up in the proper container, following the standards and policies of the hospitable. Runs are completed in the time frame allotted.</li><li>
Blood Bank products are delivered to the appropriate person, obtaining initials upon delivery.</li><li>
Central Sterile supplies are delivered and returned to the correct unit. Dirty supplies are returned to central using infection control standards.</li><li>
All other non-patient supplies and paperwork delivered in the appropriate manor.</li></ul> 

Work Experience 
 
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to read and write English. Current CPR certification required or obtained prior to providing direct patient care. 
Working Conditions
Works inside a clean, well-lighted environment. Potential for verbal abuse by patients. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting. 
Physical Requirements
Requires walking 80% of the time with frequent stooping and bending. Requires pushing, pulling and maneuvering stretchers and wheelchairs weighing in excess of 100 lbs. 80 % of the time in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy. Requires lifting and carrying equipment and supplies weighing in excess of 30 lbs. Requires ability to communicate verbally with patients, medical center staff, physicians and other customers. Requires visual acuity for reading patient logs, identification bracelets, etc. Ability to hear spectra link phone to receive transport request.</div>

Transporter, Night Shift

<div>Job Requirements 
 
Working under general supervision with approved protocols or under the order of a licensed independent provider (LIP), the Respiratory Care Practitioner II (Registered) executes assignments demonstrating a clinical competence in Respiratory Care in the selection of accurate technical factors on an individual patient basis necessary to evaluate and provide age appropriate treatment across all patient types in all locations to include cardiopulmonary dysfunction secondary to developmental defects, the aging process, physical injury or disease requiring the administration of inhaled medications, utilization of specialized ventilation equipment and performing a variety of respiratory care techniques. Adheres to all department and facility policies and procedures. 
Primary Responsibilities
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. Functions as part of a larger team to support all patients under the department&rsquo;s care.</li><li>Performs a variety of respiratory care treatments to specific patient populations, i.e., adult, pediatric, or neonatal. Verifies all interventions are supported by protocol or LIP order. Observes and monitors physical signs and symptoms, general behavior, general physical response to respiratory care procedures. Collaborates with LIP during patient rounds the therapeutic treatment plans to determine whether initiation, modification, or discontinuation of the treatment regimen is warranted. Adheres to Joint Commission, State, Federal, organizational and departmental regulatory compliance standards.</li><li>Administers therapeutic and diagnostic gases (exclusive of anesthetic agents), aerosolized medication treatments and chest physiotherapy. Administers invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation and adjusts ventilation equipment to optimize patient support. Ensures correct ventilator alarms and settings. Collaborates with the healthcare team when adjusting ventilation parameters and settings, as necessary in accordance with patient&rsquo;s response. Evaluates the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions by reviewing chest x-rays, utilizing noninvasive monitor values and laboratory results. Monitors patient appearance and vital signs and consults with the LIP or a senior practitioner as necessary.</li><li>Documents accurate patient care activity in various electronic health records systems.</li><li>Contributes to departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and efforts to improve workflows, patient experience and quality. Education &amp; Experience - Required<ul><li> 
Associate's Degree /Legacy Approved Certificate Program. Registered Respiratory Care Practitioner II, PRN

UM Upper Chesapeake Health (UMUCH), a member of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), has a full-time employed position available for a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join their practice located in Bel Air, MD. 
APP Job Specifics:<ul><li>
The APP will manage and treat hospital-based patients, predominantly in the IMC but will occasionally cover in the ICU.</li><li>
The APP will be a member of the critical care team whose predominant focus would be IMC level patients with high medical complexity. Provider should be comfortable caring for higher acuity patients.</li><li>
While procedure skills are not a must have to apply, the expectation is that this person will be trained and eventually expected to handle various procedural skills including central lines and intubations with on-site physician back up support.</li><li>

Work Experience

Clinical Nurse II

<div>Job Requirements 
 
The Case Management Technician is responsible for supporting the core functions of discharge planning and utilization management, carrying out associated routine tasks. These include assisting with arrangement of post discharge resources such as returns to nursing home, home care, DME, and transportation services, and supporting communication between the hospital, customers and payors through phone, fax, notifications and data entry. Works under the under the direction of a licensed RN Care Manager or Social Worker. 
DISCHARGE PLANNING:
Arranges for transportation at discharge for patients requiring post acute transfers via ambulance and wheelchair vans. Under the direction of a licensed professional, and with consideration of the patient's insurance coverage, will make appropriate referrals to home care agencies via E-discharge. Works effectively with external providers through good communication, complete documentation and follow-through to ensure efficient and smooth transition for the patient. Effectively communicates with the healthcare team regarding discharge planning activities and status. Responsible for the distribution of the Important Message from Medicare second notice per hospital policy. 
UTILIZATION REVIEW:
Monitors commercial reviews through daily census reports, and payor logs to avoid denial of payment to the hospital. Prints reviews and sends reviews through fax to payors within allotted timelines. Answers calls and retrieves faxes from payors to determine certifications and denials of days for reimbursement. Enters certified and avoidable (denied)days in MIDAS. Creates logs of daily communication with payors. Follows up on and completes all pending Certifications. Ensures Payor satisfaction through positive and effective communication. 
COMPLIANCE:
Coordinates with Case Management staff to anticipate discharges and delivers and reviews the Important Message for Medicare to Medicare recipients within 48 hours of discharge.
