 Job Description
 
 
 
 The Resource Nurse is responsible for providing direct support to all members of the nursing division, including new hires, nurse leaders, and all nursing services at UM Shore Regional Health (UMSRH), to ensure safe, high-quality, and compassionate patient care. The Resource Nurse provides expert-level bedside education, coaching, mentoring, and guidance in the care of patients, families, the community, and in collaboration with the healthcare team. The facilitator serves as a clinical expert/resource for the nursing team, communicating regularly with the charge nurse, manager, director, educator, nurse resident, new nursing service hires, and preceptors to ensure the successful transition of all new nursing hires into the organization. The Resource nurse also serves as a clinical safety net for patients through proactive rounding to support recognition of &ldquo;at-risk&rdquo; patients, with face-to-face (or phone) interaction with staff. Rounding is focused on deterioration and decreasing morbidity or mortality of hospitalized patients by recognizing deterioration and quickly stabilizing patients throughout the hospital who are at risk for neurologic, cardiovascular, and/or respiratory decompensation and/or instability. Rounding includes clinical assessment and guidance for patient care in situations of low volume/high risk situations or care of patients in designated holding, observation or overflow areas. The Resource Nurse supports determining the need for rapid response assistance for advanced assessment and emergency management, assistance with communication with providers and other healthcare team members, and, as necessary, assistance with transfer to a higher level of care. The Resource nurse responds to all Medical Emergencies, Code Blue, Brain Attacks, and clinical emergency alerts. The position requires expert-level Critical Care (CC) competency. The Resource Nurse reports to the Patient Care Services Manager, Operations.
 
 
 
 Principal Duties:
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Monitors knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors, and role of the professional nurse to provide feedback and coaching to the new grad and new hire and the orientation team (manager/educator/preceptor/director).
 </li>
 <li>
 Monitor and round on all adult inpatient units and the Emergency Department (ED) or Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) &ldquo;boarder&rdquo; patients. Areas include observation, medical, surgical, critical care, heart and vascular, adult obstetrics, and inpatient/outpatient PACU. Rounding on psychiatry is at the request of the unit charge nurse.
 </li>
 <li>
 Review of patients identified &ldquo;at risk&rdquo; using the NEWS score, vital signs, lab results, diagnostic results, and use of antibiotics or supplemental O2. Additional consideration of high-risk patients includes, but is not limited to, patients requiring non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV), high-flow nasal cannula, peritoneal dialysis, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, or those who have recently returned from a procedure/recovery area with or without sedation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Rounds on patients transferred from the critical care unit or higher level of care within the last 24 hours.
 </li>
 <li>
 Supports the bedside RN to assess patients for normal vital signs (VS) or diagnostic trends to note changes that may require further evaluation. In non-urgent deteriorating patients, reviews the potential causes of abnormal VS/trends/diagnostics.
 </li>
 <li>
 When a patient needs a higher level of care and a bed is not immediately available, the Resource nurse stays to assist with patient management and expedite necessary treatment interventions until the patient is transferred.
 </li>
 <li>
 The Resource Nurse documents assessments, treatments, interventions, communication and care delivered by the Resource Nurse in all aspects of the Medical Record as care is completed.
 </li>
 <li>
 The Resource nurse is a mentor for staff to include, but not limited to the following:
 </li>

 Recognition of abnormal vital signs, laboratory, or diagnostic results
 </li>
 <li>
 Further assessment
 </li>
 <li>
 SBAR communication, including having patient data/information available for prompt retrieval when communicating with providers and other members of the healthcare team.

 </li>

 Assist staff to activate or utilize the MET as an opportunity to improve patient care. Reinforce to staff the positive aspects of advocating for and activating for immediate assistance of their patients and as time allows, assist them in understanding the physiology and interventions needed
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists with transporting patients to a higher level of care or off-unit testing
 </li>
 <li>
 As a member of the MET, complete the MET flowsheet in the medical record
 </li>
 <li>
 Facilitate closed-loop communication to ensure all orders/interventions from the MET provider are understood by the care team
 </li>
 <li>
 Verify interventions are ordered in the medical record before the conclusion of the MET
 </li>
 <li>
 If patient is not escalated to a higher level of care:
 </li>
 <ul>
 <li>
 Ensures a confirmed treatment plan
 </li>
 <li>
 If the patient remains on the unit of origin, ensure that the patient continues to meet the admission criteria/nursing hours of care for the unit

 Supports the bedside nurse in understanding the treatment plan, including prioritizing care, completing interventions, and monitoring and reporting results

 Round on the patient within 4 hours of the completion of the MET to ensure the patient's condition has stabilized and all MET orders have been completed

 Lead post-MET event debriefing process with debrief tool

 Role in Brain Attack Team (BAT):

Job Description 
Under direct supervision of the assigned supply manager, assists with the management of inventoried assets. This function entails both the physical handling of the items and the utilization of automated systems employed for the maintenance of corporate assets. Works in all areas of supply distribution including but not limited to general operating room case cart building, customer service, receipt verification, put-away, data entry, replenishment, and par level review. Oversees the daily activity related to Asset Inventories in conjunction with management ensuring the efficiency and maintaining an accurate inventory value and count at all times. Fulfillment of the job duties requires the employee to have access to medication storage areas.

1. Ensures an adequate inventory of managed assets as necessary to meet customer needs. Performs physical assessment of replenishment requirements, calculates and prepares order for re-supply.
2. Utilizes automated and/or other communication systems to communicate replenishment requirements to suppliers. Monitors systems as necessary to ensure accurate and timely receipt of order by selected supplier. Promptly notifies Manager or Supervisor of any problem relative to required replenishment order.
3. Participate in the following activities, using working knowledge of products and automated systems:
A. Routinely reviews on-hand balances to adjust PAR level or reorder quantities based on utilization patterns and reports findings to Supervisor.
B. Prepares/completes reports as required to communicate and address asset shortages.
C. Participates in cyclical, quarterly or annual physical inventory counts and assists with the entry of data into automated systems.
4. Assists in maintaining order and cleanness in all managed asset locations by participating in the development/adjustment and cleaning of rack units, re-allocation of space, rotation of stock, and the redesign of storage shelves or bins.
5. Assists with the physical receipts of assets into the storage locations and ensures proper placement into assigned space.
6. Checks asset locations for outdated or recalled material and removes from shelves. Coordinates removal with Manager/Supervisor to ensure proper accounting and crediting of removed assets.
7. Access medication rooms containing secure medication cabinets for the purposes of inventory and stocking supplies.
8. Dispenses assets from storage to authorized end-users. Performs actions as required to minimize unauthorized dispensing or loss.
9. Maintains departmental records. Ensures all back-up data is accumulated for future use. Records, updates, and places in file/log, all information relative to the ordering activities.
10. Responds to telephone requests and provides assistance to user departments related to available stock or projected delivery dates.
11. Develops open communications with customers and provides resources to convey stock outages, backorders and special requests. Communicates with Manager/Supervisor all issues related to asset availability, problems with vendors, and in general, all major activities.
12. Reviews asset ordering documents and supplier invoices. Works to match to eliminate discrepancies. Assists Accounts Payable and supplier in the resolution of invoice problems. Enters corrected data into automated systems as appropriate and as directed by Manager/Supervisor.
13. Prepares slips and other financial documents as necessary to account for asset issues and facilitate institutional financial reimbursement.
14. Ensures Nursing supply locations are neat, clean and professional in appearance. Communicates infractions with Manager/Supervisor.
15. Facilitates the transport and storage of sterile supplies, intravenous and irrigation fluids within the perioperative environment.
16. Train new staff to the inventory specialist role and ensure expectations are clear and understood by new employee. Communicate progress to department lead specialist, supervisor and manager. 
Qualifications 
Education and Experience<ul><li>
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.</li><li>
One year of work experience performing medical order entry and/or exposure to medical products preferred.</li></ul>
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities<ul><li>
Effective and positive interpersonal and customer service skills.</li><li>
Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.</li><li>
Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division for counting items, process supply requests, and record keeping.</li><li>
