Job Description 
Provides an advanced level of comprehensive dental care of pediatric, adult and special needs population under the direction of the Chief of Dentistry. Provides patient care and treatment consistent with the mission and values of the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute (UMROI) and in accordance within the scope of practice, professional, and regulatory standards.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age, culture, ethnicity, and specific individual diagnostic needs of the patients served in his/her department. He/she must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient&rsquo;s status in order to identify each patient&rsquo;s specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group (pediatric, adolescents and/or geriatric patient group, culture and diagnostic specific).
Consistently expresses and demonstrates compassion and courtesy for patients. Extends courtesy and support to patient&rsquo;s families/visitors. 
Qualifications 
Education &amp; Experience<ul><li>
Current licensure to practice in the state of MD is required.</li><li>
CPR Certification is required.</li><li>
Credentialed according to Medical Staff Bylaw.</li><li>
Graduate from an accredited Dental School.</li><li>
Completion of a pediatric dental residency program. At least one year of clinical experience is preferred.</li></ul>

 Independently performs waived, moderate and high complexity testing using manual and automated processes. Complies and participates with all regulatory agency guidelines (CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA, etc.) and addresses concerns as needed.

 Independently identifies and resolves analytical problems, troubleshoots equipment issues and takes corrective action in evaluating testing procedures, patient results and specimen integrity; seeks guidance when necessary.
 </li>
 <li>
 Independently troubleshoots and resolves problems and documents corrective actions.
 </li>
 <li>
 Independently reviews and records quality control and determines the acceptability of testing, patient results, and instrument function by applying the principles of QA/QC daily.
 </li>
 <li>
 Responds to clinical and customer concerns, independently resolves customer issues in a confidential manner, employing integrity and discretion.
 </li>
 <li>
 Attends/Leads mandatory education, training, and in-service meetings specific to department.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists with development and modification of procedures and assumes additional responsibilities when appropriate.

 0-1 years (bachelor&rsquo;s degree) preferred; minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience (Associates in MLT or related science or Military Training) required.
 </li>

 ASCP or equivalent preferred.

 Proficient knowledge of clinical laboratory processes, analytical procedures, and various laboratory equipment including routine maintenance and calibration.
