Job Summary</b></p>
<p>
The Senior Classroom Support Technician provides advanced technical support for Client Support Services customers, focusing on the technology infrastructure in UMass Amherst Computer Classrooms. These classrooms, located across campus, are equipped with Windows and macOS computers, printers, and specialized instructional software to support teaching, learning, and collaboration.<br>
This role ensures reliable operation of classroom systems, resolves technical issues, and assists faculty, staff, and students in using classroom technology effectively. Responsibilities include maintaining classroom hardware and software, managing imaging and deployment processes, supporting printing services, and collaborating on projects to enhance instructional environments.<br>
The Senior Classroom Support Technician will collaborate closely with Client Support Services teams to address complex requests, research emerging technologies for classroom use, and contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the student and faculty experience.</p><br>

<p><b>
Essential Functions</b></p>
<p>
Diagnose and resolve escalated issues related to classroom computers, printers, AV systems, and network connectivity.<br>
<br>
Deploy, update, and maintain instructional software and classroom systems; perform imaging, data recovery, and lifecycle maintenance for macOS and Windows devices in computer classrooms.<br>
<br>
Manage classroom computers, user accounts, and group policies within Active Directory.<br>
<br>
Implement and troubleshoot classroom technology solutions.<br>
<br>
Research and evaluate emerging technologies for instructional environments.<br>
<br>
Perform routine maintenance and propose improvements to enhance classroom reliability and efficiency.<br>
<br>
Provide responsive support for classroom technology through onsite visits, phone, service requests, and remote assistance.<br>
<br>
Maintain high customer satisfaction through clear communication and effective problem-solving.<br>
<br>
Serve as an escalation point for Tier 1 and student technicians, ensuring timely resolution of complex classroom technology issues.<br>
<br>
Stay current with classroom technology standards, operating systems, software applications, and security practices.<br>
<br>
Document technical procedures, resolutions, and contribute to knowledge base articles.<br>
<br>
Assist in training faculty and staff on classroom technology features and best practices.</p><br>

Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend strategies for efficiency.<br>

Provide guidance to users on classroom technology policies and capabilities.<br>

Minimum Qualifications</b></p>
<p>
Two (2) years of relevant experience. An Associate degree or above can substitute for one (1) year of relevant experience. Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Valid driver&rsquo;s license and ability to pass CJIS background check.<br>
<br>
Hardware/software troubleshooting and repair.<br>
<br>
Installation and maintenance of operating systems and applications.<br>
<br>
Network client configuration and troubleshooting.<br>
<br>
Strong customer service and communication skills.<br>
<br>
Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving technical issues in classroom environments.<br>
<br>
Experience supporting users in person and remotely.<br>
<br>
Knowledge of macOS and Windows operating systems, networking basics, and security practices.<br>
<br>
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.</p><br>

Preferred Qualifications</b></p>
<p>
Experience with M365, Google Workspace, JAMF, and KACE.<br>
<br>
Technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+).<br>
<br>
Familiarity with AV systems and classroom technology integration.<br>
<br>
Experience with imaging and deployment in multi-user environments.<br>
<br>
Knowledge of specialized instructional software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, SPSS, MATLAB).</p><br>

The Associate Director of Success Toolkit &ndash; Level Up Your Learning in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) develops, implements, and incorporates student success curriculum and academic skill&ndash;building materials across the University. This position leads the integration of student success content into first-year seminars, credit-bearing courses, and co-curricular workshops, supporting student retention, persistence, wellness, and academic thriving. In addition, the Associate Director oversees the design, coordination, and delivery of the University&rsquo;s Peer Educator Training Hub.</p><br>

Essential Functions</b></p>
<p>
Designs, develops, and maintains student success curriculum, toolkits, and instructional materials for first-year seminars, workshops, and University courses. Collaborates with faculty, academic departments, and campus partners to effectively embed student success content into curricular and co-curricular frameworks.

Leads the creation of scalable, evidence‑based academic skills modules.
<br>
<br>
Assesses curriculum effectiveness using data-informed practices and revises materials to address emerging student needs. Tracks participation, outcomes, and learning data for curricular and training programs. Prepares reports, presentations, and updates for University leadership.
<br>
<br>
Develops and oversees the University&rsquo;s Peer Educator Training Hub, establishing high-impact, research-based training for peer tutors, mentors, leaders, and other undergraduate educators. Coordinates annual and ongoing training workshops, certification pathways, and professional development opportunities and ensures alignment with national standards.
<br>
<br>
Delivers workshops and presentations to faculty, staff, and students on student success strategies, pedagogy, and academic skills.
<br>
<br>
Serves as a campus resource on student success skills and peer educator training and best practices and works with the Senior Assistant Provost of Learning Resources and Undergraduate Research to align success skills across campus.
<br>
<br>
Contributes to LRC strategic planning and campus-wide student success initiatives.
<br>
<br>
Builds and maintains strong partnerships across campus, with a special focus on academic affairs and academic departments, student affairs, advising, and retention-focused units.
<br>
<br>
Supervises and mentors graduate assistants and a team of undergraduate trainers. Supports hiring, onboarding, scheduling, evaluation, and professional development for student staff and creates a supportive, inclusive, and growth-oriented working environment.</p><br>

Minimum Qualifications</b></p>
<p>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree and at least four (4) years of experience working in higher education, student affairs, learning support, curriculum design, or related field.

Demonstrated experience developing instructional materials or training resources in multiple modalities (e.g. in person, online and hybrid).
<br>
<br>
Experience supervising student employees or mentoring student leaders.
<br>
<br>
Strong understanding of student development, academic success strategies, and inclusive pedagogy.
<br>
<br>
Excellent presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to create and present engaging content to a diverse population of stakeholders with varying levels of experience.
<br>
<br>
Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to express thoughts clearly and in a logical sequence.
<br>
<br>
Strong organizational and project management skills and excellent attention to detail.
<br>
<br>
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain harmonious working relationships and collaborate effectively with a diverse population of stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications</b></p>

Master&rsquo;s degree or above in higher education, curriculum/teaching, educational psychology, or related field.

Experience teaching first-year seminars or college success courses.
<br>
<br>
Knowledge of national standards for peer education and tutoring programs.
