Consolidated rate for Cat 1 inc holiday pay: £66.00 to £78.39 About The Role The University of Sunderland in London is seeking an enthusiastic and industry-engaged Associate Lecturer to contribute to the delivery of our innovative BSc (Hons) and MSc Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to teach within a modern curriculum that combines computer science, artificial intelligence, software engineering, cloud computing, machine learning and responsible digital innovation. Our programmes are delivered predominantly through face-to-face teaching in London and emphasise practical, project-based learning and authentic assessment. You will deliver high-quality teaching and learning across undergraduate and postgraduate modules. You will facilitate lectures, workshops and laboratory sessions, support students’ academic development, assess coursework and contribute to an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Teaching opportunities are available across a range of subject areas including: Programming and Software Development (Python, Java, Object-Oriented Programming) Algorithms, Data Structures and Computational Thinking Mathematics for Computing and Data Science Database Systems and Big Data Technologies Software Engineering and System Architecture Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems Machine Learning and Deep Learning Natural Language Processing Responsible AI, Ethics and Human-Centred Computing Capstone AI Innovation Projects Professional Practice, Agile Development and Emerging Technologies Key Responsibilities Deliver engaging lectures, workshops and practical laboratory sessions. Support students through academic guidance, feedback and personal development. Design and assess authentic coursework including software artefacts, technical reports, presentations and portfolios. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate capstone projects during workshops. Embed inclusive teaching practices and promote student success. Maintain academic standards in line with the university and QAA Quality Assurance expectations. Contribute to curriculum enhancement and continuous quality improvement. Integrate contemporary industry tools, cloud platforms and AI technologies into learning activities. About Our Programmes Our BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence programme takes students from foundational computing concepts to advanced AI applications. Students gain expertise in programming, algorithms, software engineering, databases, machine learning, deep learning, and cloud-based AI deployment, culminating in a substantial Capstone AI Innovation Project. The MSc Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence develops advanced technical and professional capabilities through practice-oriented learning. Students build scalable software systems, develop intelligent AI solutions, work with cloud and big data technologies and complete an industry-relevant capstone project. All modules are assessed through coursework rather than traditional examinations, reflecting authentic professional practice. Essential Requirements A postgraduate qualification (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering or a closely related discipline. Demonstrable expertise in one or more of the subject areas listed above. Experience with tools such as Python, Java, TensorFlow, PyTorch, SQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Git and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP). Experience of teaching, training or mentoring in higher education or professional settings. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience of designing or assessing practical computing assignments. A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusive education. Desirable Fellowship of Advance HE (or willingness to work towards it). Industry experience in software development, AI, cloud computing or data engineering.
