Position Summary:

The Bookkeeper is responsible for processing financial transactions for the organization&rsquo;s day-to-day operations and special projects.

Compensation: $18.50 &ndash; $20/hour

Location: Primarily the Riverside Park branch, Milwaukee, WI (in-person)

Schedule: This position will work 20 hours/week, with a preference for hours worked on Tuesdays &ndash; Thursdays.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul>
<li>Record all financial transactions into Quickbooks, following established accounting procedures.</li>
<li>Create and send invoices to customers.</li>
<li>Monitor and manage accounts receivable balances by sending additional reminders and communicating past due balances or problem balances with departments.</li>
<li>Coordinate with the Development team and align and reconcile all reporting with their records.</li>
<li>Process and record deposits via cash, check, credit card and online systems into QuickBooks. As well as making the deposit at the bank.</li>
<li>Assist with Accounts Payable, process and record payments; prepare items for sign off.</li>
<li>Manage credit cards including issuing, removing, and collecting receipts to enter and reconcile.</li>
<li>Manage the office petty cash fund for our three branches.</li>
<li>Maintain deferred revenue and expense tracking spreadsheets.</li>
<li>Prepare the monthly benefits journal entry.</li>
<li>Assist in payroll processing as needed.</li>
<li>Assist in the month-end close as needed.</li>
<li>Manage and maintain the Finance email inbox.</li>
<li>Perform general clerical duties to include, but not limited to phones, scanning, copying, mail, ordering supplies and filing.</li>
<li>Support the work for the annual audit.</li>
<li>Supports the Finance Department with ad hoc projects as needed.</li>

Required Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>A minimum of one year of work experience in finance, accounting, or business operations.</li>
<li>A high school degree or equivalent education.</li>
<li>Proficient in Quickbooks and data entry.</li>
<li>Proficient in Google Workspace (Google Sheets) and experience with Microsoft Office.</li>
</ul>
Preferred Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Coursework towards a degree in accounting.</li>
</ul>
Physical Requirements
<ul>
<li>Sitting for prolonged periods, typing on a computer keyboard, lifting objects of 25 pounds or less.</li>

What does a typical workday look like?

Condition &amp; Location:

<li>Open office workspace with an active team atmosphere. Using shared workspaces at all three UEC locations.</li>
</ul>
Schedule:
<ul>
<li>Standard business hours with occasional evening and weekend events.</li>
</ul>
Equipment Used:
<ul>
<li>Computer equipment, calculator, printer/copier/scanner/fax.</li>
</ul>

Team and Supervision
<ul>
<li>As a member of the Finance team, you will be managed by the Finance and Evaluation Manager.</li>
<li>Though all of our teams work together in some capacity, you will most frequently collaborate with employees making purchasing decisions.</li>
<li>In this role, you may have the opportunity to join Circles or Committees as your schedule and interests allow.</li>
<li>All UEC team members should expect interaction with volunteers, members, and youth participants.</li>
</ul>
Organizational Support
<ul>
<li>All team members of the Urban Ecology Center work a minimum of 1-2 weekend or evening events each year. Our events are a great way to engage with our communities and see our mission in action; examples include Urban Candlelight Hike, Autumn Celebration, and HKE MKE. Some roles may have increased responsibility for event leadership.</li>
<li>All team members are asked to support our building hours by providing building coverage, which may include opening/closing the building, communicating with staff on-site, and welcoming visitors or guests. You may sign-up for an ongoing shift or provide backup support.</li>
