POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Director Institutional Giving is a mission-driven, strategic leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of institutional giving at URI&mdash;including corporate partnerships, private foundations, and government grant strategy in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and the Vice President of Develoopment. Reporting to the Vice President of Development, this role leads a growing team of professionals, including the Director of Development (Corporate and Foundation Relations), Development Manager/Grant Writer, and contracted grant writers.

The Senior Director will drive and scale a comprehensive institutional fundraising program that fuels URI&rsquo;s growth and impact. They will oversee relationship strategies, proposal pipelines, stewardship practices, and cross-department collaboration to secure sustainable revenue from a diverse and expanding base of funders. This is a highly collaborative leadership role that requires excellent team management, superior writing and strategy skills, and a deep commitment to URI&rsquo;s mission, vision and values.

Salary: $81,000

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership &amp; Team Supervision
<ul>
<li>Supervise and support the Institutional Giving team, including the Director of Development (Corporate and Foundation Relations), Development Manager(s), and contracted grant writers.</li>
<li>Collaborate in setting annual fundraising goals and KPIs for institutional giving team members and support their growth through coaching and professional development.</li>
<li>Ensure efficient coordination across institutional team members, maintaining consistent systems for prospect research, proposal tracking, reporting, and funder stewardship.</li>
</ul>
Strategy &amp; Revenue Generation
<ul>
<li>Lead the development and execution of URI&rsquo;s institutional giving strategy, securing funding for general operating support and key programs (e.g., Economic Empowerment Program, PALS, and other Justice Initiatives and Residential programs).</li>
<li>Manage a high-priority portfolio of foundation and corporate funders and prospects, serving as the relationship lead or supporting Executive/Board engagement.</li>
<li>Oversee strategy for corporate employee engagement, sponsorship, matching gifts, and cause marketing campaigns.</li>
<li>Partner with the CDO and VP to develop a multi-year growth strategy for institutional fundraising and a more diversified funding base.</li>
</ul>
Grant Writing &amp; Proposal Management
<ul>
<li>Oversee systems for timely, high-quality proposals and reports, including narrative development, budget alignment, and cross-departmental collaboration.</li>
<li>Provide quality control and editorial support to proposals prepared by staff and consultants.</li>
<li>Guide the process of identifying funding opportunities aligned with URI&rsquo;s mission and strategic priorities.</li>
<li>Maintain a calendar of deadlines and ensure timely submissions and acknowledgements.</li>
<li>Write LOIs and proposals as needed if gaps in contracted or team capabilities arise.</li>
</ul>
Cross-Functional Collaboration
<ul>
<li>Partner closely with Programs and Finance to align funding proposals with program design, outcomes, and strategic communications.</li>
<li>Partner with Executive Leadership and Programs to ensure coordination and prep for donor meetings.</li>
<li>Collaborate with the MarComm team on visibility opportunities for funders, including media, signage, and storytelling.</li>
<li>Coordinate with Programs to develop internal communications and orientation relevant to institutional partnerships and grants compliance.</li>
</ul>
Funder Stewardship &amp; Visibility
<ul>
<li>Ensure meaningful and tailored stewardship plans for institutional partners, including site visits, recognition, and communications aligned with grant requirements.</li>
<li>Work with MarComm to develop web, print, and digital content that highlights URI&rsquo;s partnerships with corporate and foundation funders.</li>
<li>Contracted Writer Oversight</li>
<li>Manage contracts and scope of work for contracted grant writers and consultants.</li>
<li>Provide strategic guidance, quality assurance, and alignment to organizational priorities (oversight is not day-to-day project management).</li>
</ul>

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Professional Experience &amp; Expertise
<ul>
<li>Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit institutional fundraising, including foundations and corporate giving.</li>
<li>At least 2 years in a supervisory or senior-level development role, with demonstrated success leading high-performing teams.</li>
<li>Deep understanding of New York&rsquo;s philanthropic landscape and national funder networks supporting anti-poverty, domestic violence, homelessness, and/or social justice causes.</li>
<li>Connections to NYC institutional donors that align for URI&rsquo;s areas of work.</li>
</ul>
Leadership &amp; Strategy
<ul>
<li>Proven ability to develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies across a complex organization.</li>
<li>Demonstrated success cultivating and closing six- and seven-figure grants and gifts.</li>

Senior Director of Institutional Giving

Urban Resource Institute (URI) is a dynamic, innovative, and well-respected organization founded in 1980 that transforms the lives of domestic violence survivors and homeless families through safe shelter and comprehensive services; delivers prevention and intervention programs that break cycles of violence and poverty; and actively works for sustainable systemic change. URI is the oldest licensed provider of domestic violence (DV) shelter and services in New York State, and is the largest provider in the United States of DV shelter services, as well as a leading provider of shelter and services for homeless families.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel (&ldquo;AGC&rdquo;) is responsible for drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. In addition, the AGC works closely with the real estate acquisition division as new real estate projects are developed. The AGC supports research into the crafting of policies and procedures that impact the entire agency and provides advice on regulatory matters. We work collaboratively and value diverse opinions.

Salary: $105,000 - $115,000

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul>
<li>Draft and negotiate commercial contracts with vendors and outside counsel using a contract management software system known as MyDocks.</li>
<li>Review leases and purchase and sale agreements interpreting applicable provisions to ensure compliance with terms and conditions.</li>
<li>Reviewing and responding to agency requests for advice and counsel.</li>
<li>Participate on internal real estate committee tracking project developments.</li>
<li>Oversee &amp; track insurance requirements for the agency and document in a database.</li>
<li>Ensure that all contracts have current insurance requirements. Oversee paralegal to support insurance related work.</li>
<li>Research compliance requirements embedded in contract documents between the agency and regulatory bodies.</li>
<li>Research &amp; draft policies &amp; procedures to reflect procurement compliance federal, state and city regulations.</li>
<li>Work with the Deputy General Counsel to review current agency policies &amp; procedures and draft an action plan for collaborating with relevant organization team members to update and revise existing policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Support Enterprise Risk Management internal workgroups as a subset of compliance.</li>
<li>Prepare risk dashboards and presentations before the Board of Trustees.</li>
<li>Participate in weekly department team meetings.</li>
<li>Engage with other agency leadership team members.</li>
<li>Attending board meetings.</li>
<li>Serve as the legal liaison on various agency work groups.</li>
<li>Engage in other activities that are relevant to the position.</li>
</ul>
SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

<li>Admission to the New York State Bar or ability to waive in.</li>

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

<li>A minimum of 4 years&rsquo; legal experience in government, law firm or not-for-profit.</li>
<li>Exceptional technology-based skills demonstrated through familiarity with enterprise software, software as a system and other software tools such as contract management software or project management tools such as Monday.com.</li>
<li>Demonstrated sensitivity to or experience with domestic violence, homelessness, poverty, trauma, particularly in communities with disenfranchised populations.</li>
<li>Strong legal, analytical, administrative, written and oral communication skills.</li>
<li>Keen contract drafting &amp; negotiation skills for goods and services.</li>
<li>Ability to draft and negotiate contracts for goods and services up to $20M or more.</li>
<li>Good interpersonal skills, including social and emotional intelligence.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently, assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.</li>
<li>Ability to research legal issues relating to programs, including legislative and regulatory issues impacting the organization&rsquo;s delivery of services.</li>
<li>Excellent research skills demonstrated through the drafting of legislation and public policy preferred.</li>
<li>Ability to provide legal advice to business departments concerning a wide range of issues impacting business decisions.</li>
<li>Some familiarity with municipal government contracts or other complex commercial contracts.</li>
<li>Interest in not-for-profit mission driven work.</li>
