The Providence Journal, part of USA Today Co., and the USA TODAY NETWORK is seeking a highly skilled and digitally savvy experienced visual journalist to join our statewide team and create distinctive visual storytelling across platforms.
 
This journalist will use visuals, with a heavy emphasis on video, to inform and engage our key audiences, as well as illustrate the must-read journalism produced by the newsroom. The ideal candidate is highly collaborative and fluent in digital journalism tools with an emphasis on fast, high-quality video production and photo galleries for breaking news, enterprise coverage and sports. They will cover daily assignments for sports, news, public safety, politics, features and more. They will bring their own original ideas to the table, and take initiative to pitch and execute compelling visual stories that serve audience needs.
 
This position will work a Tuesday – Saturday shift, working from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
 
What you’ll do
 
<ul>
<li>Produce, shoot and edit high-quality video and still images that accurately inform and engage our audience.</li>
<li>Develop and pitch timely visual story ideas, including videos, photo galleries and other multimedia.</li>
<li>Quickly turn around video and still images for assignments, often filing from the field and juggling multiple projects.</li>
<li>Use audience metrics to shape coverage decisions and refine visual storytelling.</li>
<li>Maintain and regularly update visuals on digital platforms to keep coverage current and relevant.</li>
<li>Build strong relationships with editors, reporters, and the community, contributing to coverage plans and newsroom collaborations.</li>
<li>Be a resource for the newsroom, helping to develop relevant trainings and workshops for reporters looking to develop their own visuals skills</li>
</ul>
What you’ll bring
 
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.</li>
<li>3 years of professional experience in visual journalism and video creation</li>
<li>Strong news judgment, planning skills and attention to detail.</li>
<li>Proven ability to prioritize, multitask and pivot quickly as news and assignments change.</li>
<li>Proficiency in SEO and optimization for visuals</li>
<li>High level communication, time management and planning skills</li>
<li>Openness to feedback and commitment to continual improvement.</li>
<li>Willingness to work nights, weekends and travel as news requires.</li>
<li>Build strong relationships with editors, reporters, and the community, contributing to coverage plans and newsroom collaborations.</li>

2026 Ida B Wells Summer Internship Program
 USA TODAY is seeking a Summer Intern to participate in this Internship Program.
 This paid internship program gives college students an exciting opportunity to produce high-quality journalism alongside some of the world's most talented reporters, editors, photographers and videographers.
 We’re seeking candidates who are looking for a professional-level experience and have the initiative, skills and judgment to excel at it.
 You should have the ability to work independently and collaboratively across the teams. Critical thinking and analytical skills will be encouraged and sharpened.
 Interns are assigned to work for nation, opinion, entertainment, politics, audience, visuals, graphics, or consumer news teams.
 Our interns edit copy, pitch story ideas, report, create videos, create graphics, create photographs and write articles, scripts, photo captions and social media language. In return, interns are assigned a mentor and attend weekly training sessions during this paid 10-week internship program.
 This is a remote internship that can be based in all states except Alaska, Hawaii and Wyoming.
 Job Level: Intern
 Hourly Rate: $18.00 per hour
 
Requirements: 
<ul>
<li>Interns must be students or demonstrate they were enrolled in a high school, college, or university at least three years prior to beginning the internship program.</li>
<li>Previous internship experience, freelance work or student newspaper experience is strongly preferred.</li>
<li>Journalism majors are welcome, but so are other areas of expertise and training.</li>
<li>A high school or college degree is not required.</li>
<li>Language skills beyond English is a plus.</li>
<li>Candidates with professional, full-time journalism experience are excluded from USA TODAY's internship programs, which are intended to provide opportunities for emerging journalists.</li>
<li>Command of AP writing, spelling, grammar, and style.</li>
<li>Solid fact checking and reporting skills.</li>
<li>Well-organized, detail-oriented and flexible.</li>

Whether supporting funeral homes or general callers, this role focuses on understanding customer needs, guiding them through the obituary placement process, and ensuring every detail is handled with care. What you bring to the table:

The hourly rate for this role will range between $8.22 and $16.83. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience.
