JOB SUMMARY
 Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science.
 
This position is available in the Mark Lab, a biomedical research laboratory within the Department of Cell Biology. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to support research projects focused on understanding how protein posttranslational modifications contribute to disease using various human cell lines as a model. The candidate will obtain in depth hands-on training on experimental techniques in biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology. The candidate will receive all necessary training to acquire more advanced skills in a world-leading research setting. A commitment of 2 years is strongly encouraged.
 
The ideal candidate will have: 
Basic word processing and spreadsheet computer skills; more advanced computer skills (i.e. programming languages) are highly desired

JOB SUMMARY
 Responsible for drawing blood samples from a patient safely and accurately for testing and research. Submits samples of blood, urine or tissue with proper label for analysis to the laboratory.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job knowledge. Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture and/or capillary puncture (limited use) with minimum trauma to patient by using the Phlebotomy collection device. Instructs patients on proper collection of urine samples. Researches specimen requirements prior to specimen collection for esoteric or new tests. Maintains a fast and accurate specimen collection turnaround time. Use Epic Beaker to enter lab orders. Verify tests ordered on the requisition with respect to details for accurate test codes while processing specimens through the LIS system, maintain positive patient identification and specimen requirements/handling via Phlebotomy collection device.
 Quality Orientation: Helps monitor pending lists, including but not limited to the unreceived specimen log. Supports CLS Quality Assurance program, actively participating in performance improvement activities by Identifying process improvement opportunities and implementing as appropriate. Ensures specimen requirements are maintained during transportation and storage as per protocol. Ensures that specimens sent via tube system are sent successfully before leaving the area. Maintains specimen integrity at all times.
 Maintains positive patient identification for all specimens collected, using defined protocols.

 Customer Service: Provides exceptional customer service to patients of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. Greets patients kindly, puts patients at ease, addresses any patient concerns, properly communicates and demonstrates compassion and respect to all patients. Answers calls/communication in a pleasant and professional manner. Follows up and accepts responsibility for the resolution of the caller's concerns and or gives an informed hand off to the next person of authority.
 Processes laboratory samples according to procedure. Centrifuges and prepares aliquots when needed. Maintains specimen requirements at all times according to protocol. Dispatches specimens to the main laboratory or other designated testing facility as per established procedure with fewer than two mislabeled specimens. Document all correct and accurate information in regard to the specimens collected to ensure best is being met daily, delivers collected specimens to the laboratory(window specimen receiving) and may receive specimen using Epic Beaker. May have to enter orders or look up orders in EPIC Beaker. May be required to contact the Core Laboratory for retrieval of specimens (e.g. for add-on test).
 Adheres to Patient Safety Goals as defined by UTSW, TJC, CAP, and other regulatory/accreditation agencies. Performs inventory of supplies as assigned. Provides training to other Phlebotomists as needed. May provide team leadership for other Phlebotomists in the absence of the Lead Phlebotomist.
 Ensures all tests are accounted for in the ordering system. If necessary, contacts physician's office or nurse to obtain order clarification/verification prior to collecting specimens. Tracks every specimen to ensure specimen integrity, accounting particularly for those samples which must be transported to other locations with fewer than three occasions of errors involving maintaining specimen batches (opening, reconciling and closing).
 Orders and Monitors supplies and ensures all are within expiration date. Ensures that expired supplies are discarded and none are in the general supply, storage or on phlebotomy carts. Phlebotomy carts need to be fully stocked with required supplies; delivered to the specific staging area; document daily use on current phlebotomy log. Keeps work area well organized and free from clutter, stocked with essential supplies and decontaminated with proper cleaning solutions and disposal of wastes and trash in appropriate containers.
 Utilizes the Risk Management and Process Improvement tools (Event Reports) in an accurate and timely way to identify issues concerning Quality Improvement and assists coworkers in this process as needed. Follows chain of command when reporting unsafe practices observed.
 Actively participates in the review of the monthly schedule and work assignments in conjunction with the Supervisor/Coordinator. Know daily tasks and be accountable for the daily workflow, including the status of the phlebotomy tracker, work flow assignments, and priority test requests. Also, acts as a liaison/problem solver for phlebotomy issues.
 Perform blood collections, blood cultures, and other special collections (Lactic acid, Ammonia, QFTs, to name a few), according to procedures defined by the LIS Collection Management with minimum errors.
 Attendance Reports for work on the assigned days at the assigned times. Follows procedures regarding requesting and using leave in manner that consistently supports effective job performance.

JOB SUMMARY
 This position at UT Southwestern involves working with departments across the organization to provide subject matter and technical expertise for designing, implementing, and supporting solutions across PS HCM, with a focus on Payroll for North America, Base Benefits and Timekeeping utilizing UKG Pro Workforce Management (WFM). Additionally, this position will serve as the lead responsible for payroll support and integration between PeopleSoft HCM and UKG Pro Workforce Management (WFM) with a complete understanding of payroll functions within the PeopleSoft HCM system and following the principles and compliance requirements for Texas State Higher Education Institutions.
 
Primary Job Duties: 
1. Analyze business systems and procedures to produce complete end-to-end solution designs to enhance efficiency and maintain data integrity.
 2. Provide functional design, and on-going support, for PeopleSoft HCM including integration with the UKG Pro Workforce Management (WFM), Financials system (PeopleSoft FSCM) module, and other Benefit state centered integrations.
 3. Create clear, concise functional and technical requirements/specifications, build and test plan documentation and applicable test scripts. Develop, deploy, and manage integrations, interfaces, queries, and reports.

The position is a key member of the administrative office, responsible for coordinating major programs, activities, and special projects while providing advanced support to the Center Director, Center Administrator, and faculty. Duties include managing a complex, multi‑year Scientific Research Agreements (SRA); assisting with federal and private grant submissions; overseeing post‑award activities; and supporting other research-related projects.  Pre ‑ Award and Post ‑ Award Administration, Management & Compliance (75%)
 
Leads and provides guidance managing the preparation and submission of research grant proposals, subsequent award setup and progress reporting. Collaborates with faculty on proposal budgets to ensure compliance with sponsor and institutional requirements; coordinate internal deadlines to meet all internal and external submission requirements and deadlines.
 
Maintain organized pre- and post-award files records and files on grant and SRA agreements; reviews terms to ensure completeness and compliance with applicable Federal and state laws and regulations, sponsor and UTSW policies.
 
This position will help identify and pursue grant opportunities that support the Sequencing Populations to Accelerate Research and Care (SPARC) program. The successful candidate will work closely with Center’s existing leadership team to support the Center Director and SPARC Director in managing a large, multi‑year Scientific Research Agreement (SRA) that currently funds the SPARC program.
 
Serve as a faculty and staff resource regarding pre ‑ and post ‑ award processes and requirements.
 
Assist with budget revisions, supplemental requests, and re ‑ budgeting actions.
 
Facilitates effective communication between PIs and Center administrative staff by sharing deadlines, award status updates, and resolving administrative and/or workflow issues.

Monitor monthly expenditures for allowability, accuracy, and adherence to sponsor rules. Track and reconcile budgets and departmental accounts as needed.

In addition to multiple Foundation, R01 and CPRIT single PI grants, the position will manage a large 5-year multi-site NIH P01 grant with five total budgets (4 subawards); primary liaison between UTSW and outside institutional staff ensuring timely submission of sub invoices, progress reports, and other documents. Works with SPA to set annual subcontract renewals and carry forward.
 
Participate in monthly in-person financial reviews with faculty and other senior staff.
 
Candidate must stay current with regulatory and policy changes at Federal and State level and communicate changes to Center faculty and staff.
 
Process PeopleSoft sourcing and financial transactions forms including payroll updates, purchases, reimbursements, and cost transfers, as needed.
 
Assists Center Administrator, faculty and Senior Financial Analyst to maintain sub ‑ ledgers and review expenditures for accuracy and compliance.

 Administrative & Operational Support (25%)
 
The position is responsible for coordinating major and highly complex programs, activities, and special functions while providing advanced administrative support to the Center Director, Center Administrator, and senior faculty.
 
Key responsibilities include collecting, organizing, and analyzing relevant data; developing and maintaining project timelines; and preparing detailed budget and reports for Center leadership and/or faculty review.
 
Relieve supervisor of various internal administrative duties, which require thorough understanding of, and adherence to functions, programs, and policies of Center and the university.
 
Provides professional support for special projects, which may include editorial and administrative support for manuscripts and abstracts for publication; prepares material for oral and/or written presentations; coordinates and prepares materials for courses, meetings, and conferences; performs Library and Internet research. Assist faculty in publishing research journal articles to public websites.
 
Working with Center Administrator and other administrative office staff, helps to maintains sub-legers for various non-grant accounts, including reviewing expenditures and encumbrances, reconciling accounts, and ensuring appropriate use of funds.
 
Assist with annual budget planning and reporting and forecasting grant revenues.
