Key Responsibilities and Tasks</b></p><div><div><div><ul><li>Safety is our first priority and the Marine Superintendent has, in collaboration with the Fleet Manager, the authority and the accountability for taking necessary decisions that ensure constant safe operation and that everybody comes home safe and that we protect the environment.</li><li>Our Customers are our second priority after safety. The Marine Superintendent is responsible for delivery of marine management service to the Customer. Ensure the Customer fully benefits from the operational performance of their vessel.</li><li>Accountable for execution of duties including the maintenance of navigational standards by regular review of navigational practices and procedures and any improvements required for the ships assigned.</li><li>Monitor shipboard drug and alcohol testing.</li><li>Forming part of the office review team for safety critical work requiring office approval. Ensure the commercial operations of assigned vessels are conducted in a safe and effective manner.</li><li>Planning, arranging and monitoring the internal and external audits of the appropriate managed vessels.</li><li>Authorise selection process of Senior Officers for assigned Vessels.</li><li>Conduct Senior Officer Performance Appraisals in accordance with VMS procedures and play an active role in their personal development and competence management.</li><li>To assist and support the DPA and act as deputy DPA when required.</li><li>Build and maintain a professional and effective working relationship with senior ship staff to influence the development of a strong safety culture.</li><li>Collaborating with the fleet cell colleagues to formulate robust action plans to drive improvement in performance of office and customer KPIs.</li><li>Collect HSEQ statistical data of assigned vessels to support the CTD and Management Review processes.</li><li>Monitor the Health, Environmental &amp; Quality aspects of the assigned Vessels.</li><li>Monitor all cargo activities such as cargo operations, tank cleaning / gas freeing and to comply with operational safety procedures and provide assistance / guidance where required for the ships assigned. Liaise with P&amp;I for Cargo/Operations related matters. Ensure environmental standards and procedures are fully complied with.</li><li>Prepare &lsquo;visitation&rsquo; plans to promote safety on assigned vessels and the development of a strong safety culture onboard.</li><li>Ensure that any issues that affect, or may affect, the safety, environmental or operational performance of assigned vessels are reported to the Fleet Manager and escalated to the HSEQ Manager / DPA promptly.</li><li>To be an advocate of ShipSure and ensure it is properly utilised within the fleet cell. Support and assist colleagues where required and provide constructive feedback to aid continuous improvement of the system.</li><li>In liaison with other members of the fleet cell team, control and monitor the risk for assigned vessels and act as a member of the risk assessment team for shipboard procedures and operations.</li><li>Maintain records of accidents, incidents, near misses and non-conformance reports. Contribute fully to the investigations and ensure that investigations are carried out in accordance with the severity and response matrices within the VMS, and that appropriate corrective action is agreed upon and implemented in a timely manner.</li><li>Ensure that the Management team is immediately advised of any hazardous occurrence or high potential near miss likely to affect the Safety, environment and/or performance of the vessel.</li><li>Act as Company Security Officer (CSO) and plan ISPS audits for designated fleet/vessels within the required timescales. Monitor required reporting of entries into HRA/War risk areas and Armed Guards as required.</li><li>In conjunction with the Shipboard team prepare vessels for inspection/audit by PSC, Flag, Oil Major, CDI and similar bodies.</li><li>Drive positive outcomes of third party inspections on assigned vessels to ensure office and Group safety performance KPIs are met</li><li>Attend contingency drills and exercises held in the office so as to form part of an effective Emergency Response Team during a real time contingency.</li></ul></div></div><br>

Essential</b></p><div><div><div><ul><li>Minimum qualification of Class 2 (1st Mate) certificate of competency and seagoing experience as a Chief Officer pursuant to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch- keeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, as amended, with not less than three years&rsquo; experience as a senior shipboard officer and five years of relevant ship type experience,</li><li>or</li><li>Other formal education combined with not less than three years&rsquo; practical senior level experience in ship management operations in a shipping company with relevant ship type experience,</li><li>or;</li><li>Qualifications from a tertiary institution recognized by the Administration or by the recognised organisation, within a relevant field of management, engineering or physical science with not less than three years practical senior level experience in ship management operations in a shipping company with relevant ship type experience.</li></ul></div></div><br>

Safety is our first priority and the Fleet Superintendent has, in cooperation with the Fleet Manager, the authority and the accountability for taking necessary decisions that ensure constant safe operation and that everybody comes home safe and that we protect the environment.<br>
<br>
<b>Customer</b><br>
Our Customers are our second priority after safety. The Fleet Superintendent is responsible for delivery of technical management service to the Customer. The Fleet Superintendent&rsquo;s position is the link between the Customer and his/her ship and the responsible person for ensuring that the Customer fully benefits from the operational performance of his/her ship.<br>
<br>
<b>Ownership</b><br>
Own the operation of the vessels managing them to the highest safety standards, effectively and efficiently in the provision of management services required under the Management Agreement and VMS. Plan, control and execute all activities connected with maintenance, repairs, dry-docking, conversion or modification of assigned vessels. This to be in line with Flag, Class and Statutory Requirements.<br>
<br>
<b>Leadership</b><br>
Authorise selection process of Senior Officers for assigned Vessels, build and maintain a professional and effective working relationship with senior ship colleagues to influence the development of a strong safety culture. Conduct Senior Officer Performance Appraisals in accordance with VMS procedures and play an active role in their personal development<br>
<br>
<b>PMS</b><br>
Responsible for PMS, to ensure that the job descriptions and maintenance intervals assigned to all machineries is as per makers manual, and that repairs history / spares consumed are correctly recorded in ShipSure for future reference and insurance claims / audits.<br>
<br>
<b>Client</b><br>
Serve as the first contact point for the assigned vessels and liaise with respective Clients. Provide timely &amp; accurate reports to Clients regarding the management, expenditure &amp; condition of the Vessel as per the SMA and as agreed with the Clients.<br>
<br>
<b>Monitor</b><br>
Monitor vessel performance trends including speed, fuel and lubricating oil consumptions, and implement timely remedial actions where these are outside agreed or expected parameters. Monitor and energy consumption on board the ships, ensuring that the vessels are operated most economically at all times.<br>
<br>
<b>Report Issues</b><br>
Ensure that any issues that affect, or may affect, the safety, environmental or operational performance of assigned vessels are reported in time.<br>
<br>
<b>Planning</b><br>
Plan Dry Dock, Vacation, Ships inspections and other absences with your Fleet Manager to ensure a consistent service to your Customers. Prepare &lsquo;visitation&rsquo; plans to gain thorough knowledge of the assigned vessels and safety culture onboard.<br>
<br>
<b>Quality</b><br>
In conjunction with the Shipboard team and the Marine Superintendent prepare vessels for inspection/audit by PSC, Flag, Oil Major and similar bodies. Deficiencies which can have an adverse effect on the commercial operation of the ship should be promptly reported to your line manager. Ensure all third party inspections are passed and that observations match individual KPI.<br>
<br>
<b>Reporting</b><br>
To be an advocate of ShipSure and ensure it is properly utilised within the fleet cell. Support and assist colleagues where required and provide constructive feedback to aid continuous improvement of the system.<br>
<br>
<b>Finance</b><br>
Work with relevant members of the Fleet Cell and Vessel to co-ordinate all information required for the preparation of the vessels&rsquo; running cost budget. Maintain strict control of all aspects of vessel expenditure. No out of Budget spending without prior consent of the Client.<br>
<br>
<b>Day to Day</b><br>
Discuss with Ships&rsquo; Command the work plan, running costs, spares and stores situation and other issues of concern and report/correction on same.</div></div><br>

Desirable</b></p><div><div><div><ul><li>2 Year&rsquo;s experience as a senior shipboard officer on relevant ship type</li><li>Previous experience as a Fleet Superintendent in a Technical Department, or previous experience in a Senior Engineering/Naval Architecture position in the Marine Industry.</li><li>Member of IMarEST and Engineering Council registration or other equivalent recognised professional registration</li><li>Basic financial understanding and some experience in administering budgets.</li></ul></div></div><br>
