Summary:</b></h3>
<p>
The Sr. EH&amp;S Hazardous Waste Technician will have responsibility for the performance of tasks associated with the collection and safe/compliant handling of hazardous waste materials and management of biomedical waste at Vaxcyte's headquarters facility and local offsite laboratory locations. This position is designed to incorporate day-to-day compliance responsibilities with other strategic opportunities for growth in support of broader EHS initiatives. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who works well with cross-functional teams under minimal supervision. The candidate must demonstrate a dedication to organizational objectives and a conscientiousness in their work.</p>
<h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Essential Functions:</b></h3>
<ul><li>Demonstrates compliance with Vaxcyte's values and exercises sound professional judgement.</li>
<li>Manage compliance for all hazardous waste management, including conducting inspections, managing labeling, establishing waste profiles, scheduling timely waste pickups, overseeing lab packs, ensures compliance. recordkeeping/documentation practices and other compliance items as necessary.</li>
<li>Coordinates hazardous waste profiling/testing.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Selects and dons appropriate personal protective equipment as needed: uniform, lab coat, chemical-resistant coverall, safety glasses, gloves, full-face air purifying respirator.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Advises personnel on regulatory requirements for hazardous waste disposal.</li>
<li>Biomedical waste program management.</li>
<li>Escorts EHS vendors as required.</li>
<li>As part of the Emergency Response Team, acts as first responder and assists in investigations of workplace incidents, near misses, and environmental events; documents findings and corrective actions.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Review and maintain SDS database and site chemical inventories.</li>
<li>Supports EHS management in the gathering of data for the establishment of report metrics pertinent to EHS activities.</li>
<li>Prepares and readies hazardous waste for transport both onsite at company facility and at offsite laboratories.</li>
</ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Requirements:</b></h3>
<ul><li>High School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years hazardous waste management and general knowledge of EHS programs required. Other combinations of education and/or experience may be considered.</li>
<li>Ability to use Microsoft programs, including word, excel, PowerPoint and willing and able to learn new software for EHS Management.</li>
<li>May require after-hours support and limited spill clean-up and may require on-call coverage.</li>
<li>Ability to move full 55-gal drums with manual drum dolly.</li>
<li>Ability to obtain medical clearance and wear a respirator.</li>
<li>Valid CA driver's license with clean motor vehicle record and access to personal vehicle for travel to offsite facilities. Milage can be expensed per the Vaxcyte Travel and Expense Policy.</li>

Summary:</b></h3>
<p>
Vaxcyte&rsquo;s Research team uses a broad palette of chromatographic tools to purify diverse vaccine antigens. Applicants must have practical, hands-on experience with multiple chromatographic modalities (not limited to monoclonal antibody/Protein A workflows). Experience should include selection, screening, development, scale-up and characterization of various chromatography techniques.</p>
<h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Essential Functions:</b></h3>
<ul><li>Execute the following AKTA FPLC chromatography techniques:
<ul><li>Immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC)</li>
<li>Ion-exchange chromatography (IEX)</li>
<li>Hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC)</li>
<li>Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC)</li>
<li>Hydroxyapatite (CHT / HA)</li>
</ul></li><li>Designing chromatography trains to reduce host cell protein, endotoxin and aggregates using complementary modalities.</li>
<li>Demonstrated DoE experience for multimodal optimization is a plus.</li>
<li>Membrane chromatography for high-throughput contaminant removal or virus/VLP processing and as a scale-friendly polishing/scavenging step.</li>
<li>Keep accurate and current records of development experiments and/or project related activities in an electronic laboratory notebook.</li>
<li>Present data from experiments to the team and contribute to technical discussions.</li>
<li>Work within a team environment and provides support as necessary to further the team&rsquo;s initiatives.</li>
</ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Requirements:</b></h3>
<ul><li>BS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a relevant science considered, with minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience or MS with minimum of 1 year of relevant industry experience.</li>
<li>Experience with diverse protein targets, bacterial and eukaryotic recombinant proteins, small/large subunit vaccine antigens, fusion proteins, multimeric complexes, glycoproteins, and VLPs.</li>
<li>The role requires demonstrated success with alternative capture/polishing methods and orthogonal cleaning strategies appropriate for potential vaccine antigens.</li>
<li>Preferred experience with Cell-free protein synthesis system.</li>
<li>Familiarity with automation or high throughput workflows such as (96-well plates) and UNICORN/AKTA software DoE integrations.</li>
<li>Experience in process development.</li>
<li>Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate well within the team and excellent written and verbal communication skills.</li>
