Team Members to provide exceptional service in our cafes and retail markets! The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) located at the Syracuse, NY, VA Medical Center is seeking part-time Food Service Workers who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and are committed to serving America&rsquo;s Heroes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Prepares a variety of beverages, including but not limited to coffee, latte, cappuccino, and smoothies.</li>
<li>Prepares and assembles an assortment of food items, including but not limited to breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, burritos, and many more.</li>
<li>Maintains cleanliness &amp; sanitation of workplace, equipment, utensils in compliance with health &amp; safety standards.</li>
<li>Properly stores food to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.</li>
<li>Prepares a variety of foods according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures.</li>
<li>Will be exposed to varying temperatures, including hot and cold.</li>
<li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul>

Requirements:
<ul>
<li>A current, valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service.</li>
<li>Ability to read instructions and perform basic math for food preparation.</li>
<li>Requires constant standing, walking, and frequent bending.</li>
<li>Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
</li><li>Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the food service industry is preferred but not necessary.</li>
<li>Excellent customer service skills</li>
</ul>
As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, we may consider:

Upon completion of your probationary period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. 


Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment. It is a requirement that all HCP receive the annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons.</div>
