Medical Technician</b></p><p>
Responsible for a number of functions to support medical staff and assist with the clinical and technical aspects of care within limits of certification for residents. Performs other duties as assigned. This is a safety sensitive position.</p><p><b>
Principal Accountabilities / Essential Job Functions:
</b></p><ul><li>Administers resident oral and topical medication(s), as prescribed by a physician and within the scope of practice of a Med Tech, including, but not limited to: o Verifies identity of resident receiving medication.<ul><li>
Presents medication to resident and observes ingestion or other application.</li><li>
Records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration in the system of record.</li><li>
Takes and records vital signs or observes resident to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated team members of unexpected reactions.</li><li>
Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not taken.</li><li>
Maintains related medical records under supervision of the nurse and/or medical staff.</li></ul></li></ul><ul><li>
Gives direct patient care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients, and assisting in examinations and treatments.</li><li>
May receive supply of ordered medications and store per protocol.</li><li>
May record and restock medication inventories.</li><li>
Follows written and/or verbal instructions on how to manage medications.</li><li>
Identifies and reports deviations from safe practice. Adheres to policies and guidelines of regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA).</li><li>
Provides escort service to residents as directed by supervisor.</li><li>
Notifies supervisor and oncoming staff of resident changes of condition, as they occur.</li>
Provides safe, efficient, and cost<li>-effective quality care.</li><li>
Documents care per policy and procedures.</li><li>
Communicates and collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to resolve resident problems and enhance care delivery and service.</li><li>
Participates in quality assessment and performance improvement activities; successfully adapts to changes.</li><li>
Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to the Company's Mission, Values, and Resident Care Philosophy and Standards of Care and Practice through behavior and attitude.</li><li>
Responsible for upholding resident rights.</li><li>
Maintains Infection Control Protocols in all aspects of daily duties.</li><li>
Performs duties in a timely and efficient manner on a shift/schedule determined by the facility.</li><li>
May perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and render First Aid in emergency situations.</li><li>
Attends/complies with assisted living/care center meetings, mandatory in-services and committee meetings.</li><li>
Participates in orientation of new employees.</li><li>
Manages emergency situations based on the Company's safety and disaster policies.</li></ul><p><b><br>
Education and Experience:
</b></p><ul><li>Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is preferred.</li><li>
Work Experience: Prior experience working with geriatric clients is preferred; 6 months prior Medication Technician experience, preferred.</li><li>
Licensure / Certification: Current state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant is required; completed the training to be a designated Med Tech is required ; Current CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications are required; Current First Aid certification is required or must be willing and able to become First Aid Certified. Must be able to pass a comprehensive test based on basic pharmacology and medication safety.</li></ul><div>
