<br>
<b>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
</b><br>
<i>This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job&rsquo;s overall responsibilities. Successfully performs work as an individual, as a member of a single craft, or multi-craft work crew.</i><ul><li>
Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures.</li><li>
Properly cares for and safely uses hand and power tools and all company property.</li><li>
According to manufacturers&rsquo; specifications, disassembles and inspects for wear, damage and possible malfunction of ships mechanical equipment aboard vessel and in shop, including but not limited to gas, diesel, and steam engines, electrical motors and accessories including valving, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.</li><li>
Opens and inspects/repair rudders and shafting which includes bearings and surfaces.</li><li>
Under supervision, removes and installs ship&rsquo;s propellers and shafts, using air and electrical chainfalls and various other equipment.</li><li>
Repairs and inspects pumps and mechanical seals.</li><li>
Repairs and inspects rudder, wheel, and shafting.</li>
Performs basic winch and windless repairs <li>- steam and hydraulic.</li><li>
Basic repair of evaporators.</li><li>
Tubing assembly and testing of condensers and heat exchanger.</li><li>
Diesel engine theory and repairs.</li><li>
Works from ship specifications, work orders, and applicable working drawings and blueprints.</li><li>
Incumbent performs similar work in all areas of the Yard as the need arises.</li></ul><br>

<b>KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES</b><ul><li>
Communicates effectively, works independently or in a group.</li><li>
Ability to do basic math, i.e. add, subtract, divide and multiply.</li><li>
Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.</li><li>
Ability to do percentages, metric and decimal conversions, and multiply fractions and decimals as required for use in measurements.</li><li>
Propulsion basics including variable pitch props.</li><li>
Pumps - types and mechanical seals.</li><li>
Steam systems.</li><li>
Underwater hull machinery, including bearings.</li><li>
Blowers, winches, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.</li><li>
Shipboard systems including condensers, heat exchangers, fuel and lube oil, and cooling.</li></ul><br>
<br>
<b>EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:</b><br>
High school or GED or equivalent combination of 2-5 years of education and directly applicable work and/or proven skills in the trade.<br>
<b>Associate 2</b><br>
Proficient in both Fire Watch and Associate 1 job duties. Trains and assists with erecting and dismantling staging. Assists with and/or performs basic pipe bolting under the direction of a Journey Level employee or Supervisor. May perform Associate 1 or Fire Watch duties. Must acquire three (3) additional Ship Repair Skills to progress to the next level.<br>
<b>Associate 3</b><br>
Proficient in Fire Watch, Associate 1 and Associate 2 job duties. Trains and assists with rigging under the direction of a Journey Level employee or Supervisor. Assists with and/or performs mechanical bolting under the direction of a Journey Level employee or Supervisor. May perform Fire Watch, Associate 1 or Associate 2 duties. Must acquire three (3) additional Ship Repair Skills to progress to the next level.<br>

<b>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS</b><ul><li>
Four-hour fire watch certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire</li><li>
HAZWOPER-First Responder Awareness Level</li></ul><br>

<b>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</b><br>
Sitting, Standing, Walking, Crouching, Kneeling/Crawling, Stooping, Twisting, Climbing, Balancing, Leg/Foot Use (To repetitively operate machine controls), Reaching, Handling/Grasping, Fingering/Feeling, Pushing/Pulling and Lifting/Carrying.<br>
Talking, Hearing, Vision, Near Acuity (clarity of vision at 20 inches or less), Far Acuity (clarity of vision at 20 feet of more), Depth Perception (three-dimensional vision to judge distance/ spatial relationships), Color Vision (if required to distinguish colors for job performance or safety), Field of Vision (if required to observe a large field of vision while keeping eye fixed on a given point for job performance or safety), and Smell.<br>

<b>WORK ENVIRONMENT:
</b><ul><li><b>Works indoors:</b> Frequently works indoors exposed to temperature variances, vibrations, humidity, chemicals, dust and noise.</li><li><b>
Works outdoors:</b> Frequently works on shipboard exposed to typical outdoor weather.</li><li><b>
Safety equipment required:</b> Wears welding helmet, long pants, long sleeved shirt, eye protection, hearing protection, respirator, hard hat, and leather shoes, and other equipment as required/needed.</li><li><b>
Other Exposures:</b> May be exposed to smoke, acids, degreasing cleaners, fumes, free silica, asbestos, dust, weld flash, paints, solvents, oil and grease.</li><li><b>
Operation of equipment/tools/vehicles:</b> Uses: grinders, hand/power tools, air torches, welding machines, come-a-long, chainfall, hammer, wedges, wire feeders, compressed gas tanks, plate shears, automatic multi-head burning machine, hydraulic press and punch, large and small plate rolls, carbon saw, large surface slab for securing fabrication, overhead and jib cranes and rigging, drill presses and a complete range of hand tools.</li><li><b>
Required hygiene standards:</b> Per company standards.</li></ul><br>
