</p><p>The Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services (HHVS), housed within the County Executive Office, is comprised of the Director&rsquo;s Office and six operational divisions: Public Health, Clinical Care Services, Access to Care (Health Choice), Medical Examiner&rsquo;s Office, Transition Services, and Veterans Services. The mission of HHVS is to promote health and well-being for all Wayne County residents through programs, policies, and partnerships that address gaps in access and opportunity across the lifespan.

</b></p><p>The HHVS Summer Fellowship is designed to cultivate the next generation of public health leaders while advancing departmental priorities.

</b></p><ul><li><b>Duration: </b>Eight (8) weeks
</li><li><b>Dates: </b>June 2 through July 24, 2026
</li><li><b>Schedule: </b>Part-time, up to 20 hours per week
</li><li>Fellows are placed within HHVS operational divisions or the Director&rsquo;s Office under the guidance of experienced public service professionals.
</li></ul><p><b>Supervision or Guidance Received
</b></p><p>Interns will be supervised by a preceptor, who may be the Division Director, Department Officer, or designee.</p></div>

</b></p><p><b>Required Tasks for All Interns
</b></p><ul><li>Assist with data collection, reporting, and program support.
</li><li>Participate in HHVS Fellowship activities and community outreach.
</li><li>Support meetings, events, and projects across HHVS divisions.
</li><li>Complete a supervised project and present findings.
</li><li>Use Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and SharePoint.
</li><li>Have reliable transportation for work and programming activities.
</li>Lead a project and create a presentation summarizing your internship<br>

</b></p><p><b>Level I
</b></p><ul><li>Provide administrative and programmatic support to HHVS teams.
</li><li>Assist with basic data collection, data entry, and organization of program materials.
</li><li>Support community outreach, educational activities, and public health events.
</li><li>Learn foundational concepts related to local public health operations and health equity.
</li><li>Complete a defined project with guidance from supervisors.
</li>Perform additional tasks assigned.<br>

</b></p><ul><li>Assist with data collection, data management, basic analysis, and reporting.
</li><li>Support development and implementation of health and human services programs, campaigns, and quality improvement efforts.
</li><li>Participate in community outreach and assist in organizing public health events.
</li><li>Collaborate with HHVS teams to support program operations.
</li><li>Complete one primary project culminating in a presentation or written report.
</li><li>Gain exposure to grant requirements, budgeting structures, and compliance processes.
</li>Perform additional tasks assigned.<br>

</b></p><ul><li>Conduct data collection, management, analysis, and reporting for program planning and evaluation.
</li><li>Apply public health theory and data science principles to workflow automation and process improvement.
</li><li>Support design, implementation, and evaluation of health and human services programs.
</li><li>Collaborate across HHVS divisions and with community partners, legislators, and stakeholders.
</li><li>Lead a defined project and produce a final presentation or report with recommendations.
</li><li>Support process improvements to enhance access, quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.
</li><li>Perform additional tasks assigned.</li></ul></div>
<br><div><p><b>Education Requirements
</b></p><ul><li><p><b>Level I: </b>High school students with an interest in public health, healthcare, policy, law, social work, or a related field.
</p></li><li><p><b>Level II: </b>Current community college or university student, interested in public health, healthcare, policy, law, social work, or a related field.
</p></li><li><p><b>Level III: </b>Current master&rsquo;s student in public health, health administration, policy, or health sciences.
</p></li></ul><p><b>Experience and Skills (All Levels)
</b></p><ul><li><p>Familiarity with or interest in public health, healthcare, health administration, policy, law, social work, or related fields.
</p></li><li><p>Strong interest in health and human services and a desire to make a positive community impact.
</p></li><li><p>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
</p></li><li><p>Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic familiarity with data analysis tools.
</p></li><li><p>Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
</p></li><li><p>Eagerness to learn, adaptable, and open to taking on new challenges.<br>
</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Employment Eligibility
</b></p><p>Applicants must meet all employment eligibility requirements. A current I-94 form containing a temporary I-551 stamp and photograph may be accepted. Selected candidates must successfully complete an I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form prior to the start of employment.</p></div>
