Job Title: Physical Education/Wellness Teacher
Reports to: Director of Wellness and Principal
Department: Wellness
School year: February 24-June 5, 2026
FSLA Status: Per diem rate of pay
Salary Range: $192.50 per day, non-benefited 
JOB GOAL:
The Wellness Teacher fosters a love of learning and movement that encourages student curiosity, engagement, and growth in a welcoming community of learners. The teacher provides learning experiences that engage students in all aspects of physical education and social-emotional learning guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, National P.E. Standards, district standards and requirements. 
QUALIFICIATIONS:<ul><li>
Education: Bachelor&rsquo;s and/or Master&rsquo;s degree from an accredited college/university in a related field</li></ul><ul><li>
Professional Certification:</li><li><ul><li>
MA DESE license in Physical education K-8</li><li>
Additional certification in special education and/or ESL and/or health education highly desirable.</li></ul></li></ul><ul><li>
Specialized Knowledge: child development, curriculum frameworks, growth mindset, inclusive practices, cultural proficiency, anti-bias instruction, social-emotional learning 
</li><li>
CORI and Fingerprinting: All appointments are conditional based on a satisfactory CORI and SAFIS Background Check per 603 CMR 51.00.</li></ul> 
Preferred Experience:<ul><li>
Experience teaching English Language Learners in a diverse setting.</li><li>
Experience teaching students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges</li><li>
Highly desirable to have experience with:</li><li><ul><li>
Adapted Physical Education</li><li>
Co-Teaching</li><li>
Inquiry-based instruction &amp; Project Based learning</li><li>

CENTRAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):<ul><li><ul><li>
Create a welcoming and supportive learning environment that embraces the diversity among individuals

Plan and implement differentiated lessons</li><li>
Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional design</li><li>
Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing</li><li>
Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents</li><li>
Use reasoning to appropriately handle problems that arise</li><li>
Have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues</li><li>
Demonstrate a belief in a growth mindset for students as well as for self</li><li>
Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts teaching method when appropriate</li><li>
Participate in professional development activities, both internal and external, and maintain requirements for licensure recertification</li><li>
Participate in all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed</li><li>
Any other relative duties as assigned</li></ul></li></ul>
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Wellness Teacher does not have supervisory responsibilities for other staff, except to direct any paraeducators who may be assigned to his/her/their classroom. 
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary, benefits, and responsibilities per contract between the Westborough School Committee and the Westborough Education Association.
