Fire Protection Designer I

The Designer is responsible for communicating the installation requirements of the project to the Project Manager or Senior Designer, fabrication vendor and field crew team. This work consists of creating shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, material lists, then distributing this information accurately and on schedule to others in the company. The designer s work is guided by principles of engineering and relevant fire codes, these standards must be familiar to the designer. The designer may also place orders for material and assist in the coordination of work with other contractors. The designer may also communicate directly with the customer, under the supervision of their Project Manager or Senior Designer.
Job Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Work in a team atmosphere to improve the outcome of projects.
</li><li>Monitoring and controlling the ordering and fabrication of project materials.
</li><li>Train new employees, or assist in new designer training and team member development.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Keep supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect Company operations.</li>
<li>Provide other support whether apparent, required or needed.</li>
<li>Complete additional projects as developed and assigned by your supervisor or management.</li>
</ul>
Job Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Basic personal computer skills are required.</li>
<li>The ability to understand and use the basic principles of engineering and create clear and accurate shop drawings.
</li><li>Follow directions and work with others.
</li><li>Regular and reliable attendance 
</li>
<li>High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.</li>
<li>Basic - Word, Excel and Email office skills are required</li>
<li>Understanding of commonly used materials in construction</li>
<li>General math skills</li>
</ul>

Fire Protection Designer

This individual will design; coordinate, and possibly project manage the fire sprinkler systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. He or she will design and create the finished representation for the sprinkler systems using drawing and drafting skills and tools. The drawings produced will be used as a guide by every other link in the chain of construction, both on-site and in the office. The designer will have responsibility for the initial planning of a project including scheduling of time, creating material stock listing, analyzing changes, and solving problems. Close coordination with the project manager, project superintendent, and sales representative will be required throughout the life of the project.

Job Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Review construction contract documents and coordinate with sub-contractors and General Contractor/owner to gather the required information to design the project s sprinkler system</li>
<li>Thorough use of analytical thinking and problem solving, determine construction feasibility and systems possibility</li>
<li>Create detailed drawings through extensive use of AutoCAD and AutoSprink type programs</li>
<li>Create stock list for all material required throughout the project</li>
<li>Perform hydraulic calculations 
</li>
<li>Develop initial schedules for preliminary project work 
</li>
<li>Maintain design historical records for future use</li>
<li>Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure company is meeting customers expectations 
</li>
<li>Coordinate with other departments within office to ensure proper handover of job information 
</li>
<li>Perform Project Manager functions as required 
</li>
<li>Complete other assigned responsibilities as directed by immediate supervisor or other WSFP management personnel
</li></ul>Job Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Applicable degree from a technical school or college 
</li>
<li>NICET certification is a plus 
</li>
<li>Associates in AutoCAD, demonstrated ability with AutoSprink, or other specialized fire sprinkler layout software</li>
<li>Project management experience a plus 
</li>
<li>Proven ability and track record of performing work in a timely manner and meeting deadlines 
</li>
<li>Experience in commercial, industrial, and residential design is a plus but not required 
</li>
<li>Detail-oriented and skilled in free hand and mechanical lettering and drawings 
</li>
<li>Possess good communication skills; both verbal and written
 
</li><li>Willing to coordinate and work well with others 
</li>
<li>Willing to pass a post-offer drug screen test, background and reference check
