JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Garden Horticulturist is responsible for implementing effective horticultural techniques, e.g., planting, pruning, and weed control in all assigned areas. Knowledge of plants, their cultural requirements as well as the design principles used in the Winterthur Garden and Estate is expected. They will assist in the curatorial duties of plant identification, plant selection, and documentation of design intent and also assist with plant records (documenting plant additions/deletions), labeling and yearly inventory. They will manage horticulture interns and volunteers in their areas and work with teams as needed in the Winterthur Garden and Estate. This position is responsible for ensuring all work is conducted in a manner fostering Winterthur aesthetic/environmental stewardship initiatives. The Horticulturist is considered essential personnel and will help with weather emergencies i.e. snow removal, hurricane cleanup as requested as well as work 2-3 rotating weekends a year. They will participate in Winterthur events and outreach programs such as leading tours. 


Compensation: $19.72; commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: 7:00-2:30, M-F, some weekends, later times

Responsibilities:
<ul><li>
Garden Section Management: Performs all horticultural tasks, such as pruning, mowing, mulching and weeding/weed control for health and aesthetics of the area. Scope of work performed on woody shrubs, turf and herbaceous plants. Specific duties as they relate to a particular garden area, such as water feature maintenance or timely work in an event location. Daily/weekly path clearing maintenance including snow removal. Periodic site maintenance such as cleaning benches and signs. Work performed both individually and within a team and/or within the department. Basic knowledge of area irrigation system.</li><li>
Design Aesthetic: Collaborate with management to discern and document the design intent of garden areas and prepare maintenance plans to preserve that design intent. Work to enhance the plant collection and seasons of interest within the concepts of the design intent of the area. Conduct all horticulture activities in an environmentally responsible manner.
</li><li>Documentation: Participate in team/departmental planning and garden documentation. Document all garden changes using Landscape Modification Forms. Assist in yearly mapping and plant record updates. E-mail correspondence within/outside of institution.
</li><li>Programming/Events: Create and present lectures, demonstrations and provide tours for Winterthur guests and other institutions. Participation in Garden/Winterthur events. Can occur outside of normal working hours.</li><li>
Assisting other departments with Horticulture related inquiries as needed</li></ul>
Minimum Experience: High School Diploma with 6 years horticulture-related experience

Preferred Experience: Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Horticulture or related field with 2 years of experience in a horticulture-related field. Experience in public horticulture is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills:
<ul><li>
Strong working knowledge of plants and horticultural practices with desire for continued education and collaboration with other institutions.
</li><li>Ability to express ideas clearly orally and in writing; good interpersonal skills.</li><li>
Working knowledge of Microsoft systems</li></ul>

Essential Functions:
Ability to work with manual shift vehicles/various large and small power equipment<ul><li>-mowers, backpack blower, weed eater, bobcat&mdash;and to stand, kneel, and bend for long periods of time.</li><li>
Able to traverse uneven ground/inclines.</li><li>
Work outdoors in all temperatures/conditions.
</li><li>Exposure to biting insects, poison ivy, herbicides and fertilizers</li><li>
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in order to operate Winterthur vehicles</li></ul></div>

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the general direction of the Library Director and the Winterthur Archivist, the Collections Processor carries out processing of archival and manuscript collections representing a wide variety of physical formats within the Winterthur Library. The Collections Processor supports the Winterthur Archivist and the Library Director in identifying processing priorities and implementing processing workflows. 


The Collections Processor works closely with the library team in support of institutional initiatives and goals. Together with the library team, the Collections Processor will work to foster an inclusive, accessible, and supportive environment for the library's research and public audiences 


Compensation: $47,000 - $50,000 commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: Monday &ndash; Friday, 35 hours/week with occasional evening and weekend events. This role is 100% on-site.

Responsibilities:

Processing &ndash; 90%
<ul><li>
Describes archival and manuscript collections in all formats according to archival standards.
</li><li>Focuses on processing activities in the library's manuscripts and archival collections.</li><li>
Creates DACS-compliant finding aids and makes available archival collections through the library&rsquo;s management and discovery platforms, including but not limited to ArchivesSpace and Quartex.
</li><li>Evaluates and revises existing ArchiveSpace records to ensure quality, compliance with professional standards, and the implementation of reparative description.</li><li>
Contributes to cohesive processing guidelines, training methods, and sustainable processing workflows.
</li><li>Supports shelving and rehousing decisions and shifting projects to maximize shelf space in concert with staff in technical services, collections management, and the Winterthur Archives.</li><li>
Maintains statistical reporting, generating regular and as-needed statistics in support of library and museum reporting requirements.</li></ul>

Other Library and Institutional Activities &ndash; 10%
<ul><li>
Works as part of a collaborative team to support library activities, goals, and initiatives, including but not limited to reference and research support.
</li><li>Maintains up-to-date knowledge of standards, trends, issues, and emerging technologies in archives and special collections, applying new rules, interpretations, and techniques as appropriate.
</li><li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
Minimum Experience: 1-3 years of professional archival experience in a museum or academic library setting with and MLS or MS in archival management or related graduate degree with direct experience in an archival environment.

Knowledge/Skills:
<ul><li>
Knowledge of archival theory, issues, trends, and best practices, including descriptive standards, metadata, preservation principles, and concepts related to digitized and born-digital materials</li><li>
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including an ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders</li><li>
Excellent communication, organization, time management, problem-solving, and research skills</li><li>
Established record of scholarly and professional contributions, including through publication, presentation, and professional service</li><li>
Experience with automated library systems (such as FOLIO) and common archival, special collections, and digital content management systems (such as ArchivesSpace).</li><li>
Reading knowledge of one or more languages other than English, preferably in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Latin, or Dutch.</li></ul>

Essential Functions:

Valid Driver&rsquo;s License, and ability to successfully complete a Defensive Driving Course.
</li><li>Ability to work at a computer for up to 8 hours a day.
</li><li>Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch; to climb ladders and lift, carry, and reach overhead to support materials; to push and pull carts of varying weights; and to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted.
</li><li>Ability to tolerate dusty environments.
</li><li>Ability to tolerate temperatures of 60-65 degrees for short periods.</li></ul></div>
