RESPONSIBILITIES A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Log, review and assign all incoming referrals including, but not limited to misdemeanors, felonies, ordinances, citations, wage claims, worthless checks, juveniles, child support cases and special prosecutor cases. Obtain any other necessary documents for referrals. 2. Work independently in the management of attorney caseload, within specified guidelines including the preparation of legal documents (i.e., complaints, warrants, search warrants, briefs, juvenile petitions, correspondence, immunization referrals, photocopy bills, etc.). Prepare filings on civil asset forfeitures, wage claims, and worthless checks. Open and close case files. 3. Enter data into PROTECT (PROsecutor TEchnology for Case Tracking) system and use appropriate formats to run record checks through the TIME (Transaction Information for the Management of Enforcement) system. 4. Greet public or answer telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Take and give accurate messages to appropriate staff, as required. 5. Cross train with other Legal Administrative Assistants to handle any job duty in the absence of a co-worker or to share duties as assigned. 6. Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner. B. OTHER JOB DUTIES 1. Coordinate schedules with court, law enforcement, and witnesses in issuing and/or canceling subpoenas, warrants and writs, as required; maintain court calendar. 2. Route files to Victim/Witness to ensure compliance with Victim Right&rsquo;s Law. 3. Attend trainings as required. 4. Participate in on-call system for emergencies during non-work hours, as needed. 5. Any other duties as may be assigned. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS High school graduate or HSED (High School Equivalency Diploma); completion of Office Support Specialist or Administrative Assistant Associate Degree preferred. A minimum of three (3) years administrative professional experience required, with a working knowledge of criminal practices and procedures preferred. Typing skills of 45 wpm required. Ability to operate a personal computer and software (Windows, Word and Excel) and experience in data entry is required, as well as the ability to learn any upgrades and changes that may occur. Must meet standards to access TIME system. Must attend PROTECT and State Criminal Information Bureau (CIB) training and undergo and obtain a satisfactory CIB and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) record check and fingerprint clearance. Basic, everyday living skills are needed, as is the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Reading, writing, adding, and subtracting are needed for correspondence, data entry. Demonstrated ability to work independently, work under pressure to meet frequent deadlines, maintain attention to detail and accuracy and maintain confidentiality is critical. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with co-workers and general public. Purpose of Position The purpose of this position is to protect county citizens and property, prevent crime, apprehend criminals, provide law enforcement service, and enforce state and federal laws and county ordinances. The work is performed during an assigned shift and under the supervision of the Patrol Sergeant and/or Patrol Lieutenant. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. <ul><li>Perform preventive patrol in assigned area.</li><li>Continually observe for criminal activity, safety hazards, traffic violations, known offenders, neighborhood routines and potential problem areas.</li><li>Handle complaints made by the public.</li><li>Provide assistance to motorists and the general public.</li><li>Observe for, detect and investigate violations of laws and ordinances and document those actions for future use.</li><li>Conduct interviews and interrogation of victims, witnesses, suspects and offenders.</li><li>Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations.</li><li>Identify, collect, process, package and log physical evidence. Search persons, vehicles, places and buildings.</li><li>Identify and arrest offenders.</li><li>Seek and serve arrest warrants, search warrants and other court documents.</li><li>Assist prosecutors in the preparation of cases for trial. Appear and testify in court as summoned.</li><li>Investigate traffic accidents, including protecting the scene, aiding the injured, controlling traffic, clearing the scene, determining the cause, and preparing reports and diagrams. Control, regulate and direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic.</li><li>Investigate reports of lost and found property, and missing and found persons.</li><li>Assist other law enforcement agencies.</li><li>Respond to alarms. Check buildings for security.</li><li>Transport prisoners and detainees.</li><li>Attend and participate in training as assigned. Maintain knowledge of police patrol and general investigation procedures, policies and methods; incident documentation requirements; rules of evidence; individual restraint and control methods; traffic safety principles; local geography; applicable statutes and ordinances.</li><li>Prepare accurate and complete reports on any and all activities in which engaged.</li><li>Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all aspects of job functions.</li></ul>Additional Tasks and Responsibilities While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. <ul><li>Guard prisoners.</li><li>Type reports, forms, correspondence and other materials.</li><li>Answer telephone calls, photocopy materials, fax messages, sort and file records.</li><li>Provide input to Sheriff on maintaining or improving service to the general public.</li></ul>Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or sixty (60) fully accredited college credits. Must have completed the Wisconsin Basic Law Enforcement 520/720-hour Recruit Academy and be certifiable by the date of hire. Must be 18 years of age, or older, United States citizen; ability to possess a firearm; no felony or domestic abuse convictions, good physical condition, must take and pass a psychological and medical examination; pass background investigation and pre-employment drug screen. Possession of valid Wisconsin driver&rsquo;s license with a good driving record. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
