</p><p>IFC is seeking a dynamic, motivated Social Development Specialist with strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills to support its business in the North, West and the Horn of Africa. The specialist will provide guidance to clients and IFC&rsquo;s investment and advisory teams on social risk management matters vis-&agrave;-vis IFC Performance Standards (PS) and the Sustainability Policy, with the aim of promoting compliance and enhancing the impact and additionality of IFC-supported business activities.</p><p>
The position will report to the ESG Regional Manager for the North, West and the Horn of Africa region.</p><p><b>
Duties and Accountabilities</b></p><p>
 Early Screening, Due Diligence, Portfolio</p><div><br>
</div><ul><li>Lead and assess social issues/risks in new and portfolio investments, advisory and upstream engagements, including stakeholder engagement and grievance management, labor and working conditions, gender concerns, community health and safety, involuntary resettlement, Indigenous Peoples issues, and cultural heritage, and tailor risk management and mitigation measures and solutions to support clients in addressing identified issues;</li><li>Provide clear technical advice and guidance on social aspects in accordance with the IFC Performance Standards requirements while effectively working with IFC industry teams in project decision-making and proposing practical solutions in light of social risk issues, including clear communication to internal and external stakeholders throughout the investment cycle, determination of social legal conditions for the project legal agreement, public disclosure, etc.;</li><li>Provide clear technical advice and guidance on social management aspects in accordance with the IFC Performance Standards requirements while effectively working with the IFC investment teams in processing projects considering social risks, including clear communication to teams and management throughout the investment cycle, determination of social legal conditions for the project legal agreement, public disclosure, etc.;</li><li>Proactively monitor portfolio clients that require significant support in social performance and engage with clients to develop a pathway to achieve compliance over time;</li><li>Proactively monitor and assist portfolio clients that require enhanced support in social performance and engage with clients to achieve outcomes consistent with the IFC Performance Standards requirements;</li><li>Closely work with the E&amp;S Policy and Risk (CES) teams on project reviews and addressing social issues in line with IFC Performance Standards requirements;</li><li>Coordinate with the stakeholder grievance response teams (SGR), in responding and tracking project grievances as well as engaging with civil society organizations (CSOs);</li><li>Assist in portfolio reviews on selected social risk and social development issues;</li><li>Assist in the building capacity of clients on issues related to social risks and impacts, including clients&rsquo; monitoring and evaluation of social development activities and outcomes; and,</li><li>Support portfolio teams and clients in response to CAO (Compliance Advisor Ombudsman - the independent accountability mechanism for IFC) and Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) requests.</li></ul><p>
Upstream and Advisory Services</p><div><br>
</div><ul><li>Identify and assess key social risk management aspects existing at the client and market level to unlock future investments and address them early on as part of project development;</li><li>Participate in strategic decision making regarding IFC role in upstream and advisory support to enhance social risk management performance, and where relevant, support the development of appropriate solutions; and,</li><li>Contribute to the identification of opportunities for advisory engagements that result in greater development impact and value for the client.</li></ul><p>
Stakeholder Management</p><div><br>
</div><ul><li>Effectively and clearly communicate and manage relations with internal and external stakeholders on technical, institutional and program implementation issues regarding social risk management matters; and,</li><li>Support the management and ongoing dialogue with civil society (CSO) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in requesting information, addressing concerns and raising awareness on the IFC Performance Standards.</li></ul><p>
Knowledge Management</p><div><br>
</div><ul><li>Participate in the gathering of operational experiences, lessons learned and evolving social management practices and challenges in the Africa region in building the team&rsquo;s knowledge base;</li><li>Contribute to the preparation of management briefs on relevant regional social management issues as needed; and,</li><li>Participate in ongoing and emerging corporate initiatives related to social risk management, through participation in the Social Practice Group (IFC&rsquo;s internal peer network of Social Development Specialists).</li></ul><p></p><p><b>
Selection Criteria</b></p><p></p><ul><li>Graduate/advanced degree in social sciences, anthropology, sociology or other related relevant discipline;</li><li>Minimum of 8 years of professional experience working on social due diligence, social risk management and mitigation, in the international context, with preference for experience in the private sector working across different industry sectors (for example, agribusiness, infrastructure, manufacturing and services, etc.);</li><li>Proven track record working in developing and implementing risk management measures in accordance with the social aspects of the IFC Performance Standards, other international financial institutions and/or World Bank Group E&amp;S Policies;</li><li>Working experience in emerging markets and a good understanding of the context and dynamics of the Africa region, experience working in fragile and conflict environments is an added advantage;</li><li>Willingness to travel regularly in the Africa region;</li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic. IFC is recruiting an Operations Analyst for its Egypt Country Management Unit (CMU) to work on several activities including support to the Country Management in developing strategic analysis and proposals, aggregation of sub-regional briefs and data as well as overall support to the requirements of the CMU to ensure that IFC fulfills its mandate. The position will be based in Cairo.</p><p>
The candidate must be a self-starter, capable of taking initiative to cover a diverse range of tasks, able to thrive in a small, entrepreneurial team/environment and be able to work independently with different stakeholders under the supervision of the Country Officer and Head of the Office.</p><p><b>
Role &amp; Responsibilities</b></p><ul><li>Support the preparation of IFC and WBG strategy documents, including Country Partnership Frameworks, Country Private Sector Diagnostics, sectoral notes, and other analytical products.</li><li>Assist in preparing briefing material for conferences, forums, and senior management visits, and other events where IFC engages in thought leadership and stakeholder dialogue.</li><li>Conduct analytical and content research related to Egypt&rsquo;s private sector reform program, in coordination with the Country Management team, to inform IFC&rsquo;s business development efforts. The Legal Department of IFC (CLED), under the Vice President and General Counsel, is responsible for providing legal and policy advice to the IFC Board, its Management and client departments on operational, advisory, and corporate matters. Specifically, CLED supports client departments in (i) the delivery of IFC&rsquo;s annual program of financing private sector projects in emerging markets, advisory services, as well as early stage engagements and pre-investment project development work to identify opportunities for private sector investments and creating markets (&ldquo;Upstream&rdquo;); (ii) project portfolio management (including jeopardy projects and projects in litigation); (iii) the delivery and design of structured finance products, sub-national lending, equity and quasi-equity and public- private partnerships, and investments in funds, as well as platform products; (iv) advising on corporate policy and operational matters; and (v) knowledge management and training.</p><p>
To support IFC&rsquo;s activities in Europe (&ldquo;EUR&rdquo;) as well as in the Middle East, T&uuml;rkiye, Central Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan region (&ldquo;MCA&rdquo;), the IFC Legal Department is recruiting legal counsel, to be based in Istanbul, T&uuml;rkiye. The position will report to the Assistant General Counsel for Europe, Middle East, T&uuml;rkiye, Central Asia, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
</p><p></p><p>The Istanbul Office is a regional hub for IFC in the MCA region serving the broader region of MCA/EUR in the legal domain. While the position will be based in Istanbul, the following Terms of Reference will relate to work in the two regions described above, allowing rich cross border experience. We are looking to enrich our Istanbul hub with a diverse talented legal team, interacting very closely with our other regional legal and business teams in Vienna, Warsaw, Amman, Beirut, Dubai and Karachi, as well as teams in other regions and at Headquarters/Washington D.C.
</p><p></p><p><b>Duties and Accountabilities:</b>

IFC has embarked on an ambitious new growth strategy (IFC 3.0) to stimulate more investment activity. This strategy calls for generating unique opportunities by proactively working &ldquo;Upstream&rdquo; to create, deepen, and expand markets and to imagine, design and implement investment projects. It requires taking a systematic approach to understanding the regulatory and sector bottlenecks that prevent the flow of private capital into productive investment in our member countries and addressing these bottlenecks through World Bank Group engagement on policy reforms and programmatic interventions at the country and sector level. This strategy also calls for working with Governments and World Bank colleagues to first seek private sector solutions to address development challenges - where such solutions are advisable and can be effective - and reserve public financing for projects only when other options are suboptimal. This approach is called the &ldquo;Cascade&rdquo;.</p><p>
IFC&rsquo;s Infrastructure Department is looking to hire an Investment Officer to join IFC&rsquo;s infrastructure investment team covering primarily the MCA Region (Middle East, Central Asia). The selected candidate will be based in Istanbul, T&uuml;rkiye and will be an integral part of the investment team working across the business cycle (business development, &ldquo;upstream&rdquo;, new investments and portfolio), but with a focus on leading and/or supporting business development, processing and managing IFC&rsquo;s investments throughout the life of IFC&rsquo;s investments.</p><p><b>
Duties and Accountabilities</b></p><p>
The role and responsibilities of the position will include but not be limited to the following:</p><ul><li>Contribute significantly to the development and implementation, in consultation with the IFC&rsquo;s regional and industry teams, of an integrated investment and advisory/upstream strategy that will enhance IFC&rsquo;s engagement on Infrastructure sectors.</li><li>Develop a strong pipeline of investment and advisory opportunities by following market trends, employing sector and country knowledge, and using market intelligence.</li><li>Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions. Structure moderately complex investment or advisory transactions incorporating lessons of project evaluations and portfolio management experience.</li><li>Actively participate in negotiation/documentation; use strong negotiation skills to develop solutions and overcome impasses in new business and portfolio transactions.</li><li>Perform credit risk rating assessments, covenant compliance reviews, and development impact assessment. Review the quality of portfolio review work performed by more junior staff.</li><li>Collect insights and lessons learned from IFC&rsquo;s portfolio experiences, connect trends from different areas of the business and portfolio, ensure portfolio experience and perspective is fed into strategy development and make recommendations on how these could improve business development and transaction structuring.</li><li>Contribute to drafting strategies with a focus on Infrastructure and help develop and execute effective implementation plans.</li><li>Proactively engage with clients with a focus on demonstrating and delivering IFC&rsquo;s value-add, optimizing risk-return profile and development impact of IFC&rsquo;s investments as well as exploring future business possibilities.</li><li>Cultivate and maintain senior level relationships with key real sector public and private sector stakeholders in the region. Participate in putting together sector interventions and client engagement plans for IFC&rsquo;s strategic clients.</li><li>Keep abreast of macro-economic developments that can impact IFC&rsquo;s activities in the region and provide regular inputs to regional and industry teams. Gather market intelligence, analyze strategically important portfolio trends, and emerging risks and opportunities.</li><li>Provide business intelligence to investment teams to enable them to identify integrity issues, devise appropriate investment structuring, and to inform them adequately in the management of portfolio projects.</li><li>Collaborate closely with IBRD colleagues and other IFIs working in relevant sectors and help develop and implement joint sector engagement strategies.</li><li>Provide strategic input into &ldquo;upstream&rdquo; initiatives that create, deepen, and expand markets, and require the imagination, design and implementation of investment projects.</li><li>Coordinate closely with global colleagues, social, environmental, and technical assistance colleagues to add value to our clients' businesses, find pragmatic solutions to the specific sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.</li><li>Mentor and coach more junior team members and help provide leadership in actively managing the portfolio and client relationships.</li></ul><p></p><p><b>
Selection Criteria</b></p><p></p><ul><li>Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in Business, Finance, Economics, or another relevant field.</li><li>At least eight years of relevant experience in infrastructure project investment and financing activities.</li><li>Experience across a number of financial products, including project finance, corporate debt, and more particularly equity.</li><li>Prior working experience in IFC/World Bank operational countries in the MCA region</li><li>Ability to interact directly and independently with the management of potential clients, financial and technical partners. Prior experience of working with IBRD and MIGA will be a plus.</li><li>Genuine commitment to development and to the World Bank Group and IFC's mission, strategy and values.</li><li>Understanding of IFC&rsquo;s strategic priorities and changing business model against the backdrop of IFC&rsquo;s 3.0 strategy.</li><li>Capacity to innovate and challenge the status quo. Proven track-record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments in real sectors.</li><li>Strong understanding of infrastructure sectors, such as power, transportation, utilities, natural resources, telecoms, and technology.</li><li>Strong business development, asset management and client relationship skills demonstrated by track record and ability to focus on clients&rsquo; needs effectively.</li><li>Sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners.</li><li>Excellent people skills, openness to feedback, new ideas, and ability to guide, and motivate others.</li><li>Strong inter-personal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds.</li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required; fluency in Turkish is a plus.</li></ul><p></p><p><b>

IFC is recruiting an Investment Officer to be based in Cairo, Egypt, as part of the Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) team in Africa. The selected candidate will provide expertise in the Services (tourism, retail, property, health, and education) and Manufacturing sectors to the IFC MAS regional industry (investment) teams in Africa. This role requires strong and demonstrated technical skills in sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and executing transactions and in portfolio management. The Investment Officer will also have a significant role in setting strategies to grow IFC&rsquo;s Africa Services business, as well as day-to-day responsibilities leading transactions and portfolio management.</p><p>
She/he will report to IFC Regional Industry Manager, Services, for West, Central, North Africa, and Horn of Africa.</p><p><b>
Duties and Accountabilities:</b></p><p>
The Investment Officer will work closely with colleagues in the Africa region and in Washington, DC, on business development, investment transaction execution, portfolio supervision, and client relationship management in Consumer Services (Tourism, Retail, Property, Health and Education) and Manufacturing Sectors. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:</p><ul><li> Develop a strong pipeline of good quality investment opportunities through proactive origination/business development and developing and employing sector/country knowledge.
</li><li> Lead transactions and/or teams to evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close new transactions, portfolio restructurings, rescheduling, capital increases, and equity sales, as necessary.</li><li> Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions for debt, equity and mezzanine investments and hands-on implementation of these structures.</li><li> Clearly and succinctly communicate/present (verbal and written) credit analysis and investment proposals.</li><li> Lead term sheet negotiation/legal documentation process; use strong negotiation skills to develop solutions and overcome impasses in straightforward and complex transactions.</li><li> Provide high-quality client service throughout the project cycle, from transaction sourcing and processing to supervision. This includes high-quality work and quality control.
</li><li> Build and maintain strong relationships with regional clients, businesses, banking and multilateral partners and government officials to further develop the sector and to develop specific investment opportunities.
</li><li> Mentor and develop junior staff.</li><li> Assist in the formulation, monitoring and updating of IFC&rsquo;s strategy in the Services sectors in Africa region, working with IFC&rsquo;s industry and regional departments and in close coordination with the World Bank.</li><li> Coordinate closely with social, environmental, governance, and technical assistance colleagues to add value to our clients' businesses, find pragmatic solutions to the specific sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.</li><li> Support in providing thought leadership within the team, specifically on the Services sectors- tourism, retail, property, health, and education.</li></ul><p></p><p><b>
Selection Criteria</b></p><p></p><ul><li> MBA, master&rsquo;s degree in finance or equivalent</li><li> At least 12-15 years of relevant work experience in a private equity firm, commercial bank, investment bank, or international financial institution with significant emerging markets presence
</li><li> Experience in a lead role, in investment transactions (corporate and project finance), with proven success and track record in developing client relationships with the ability to focus on client needs effectively as well as sourcing, negotiating, structuring, and closing quality investments</li><li> Strong expertise in services sectors i.e. tourism, retail, commercial and residential property, health and education sectors, and relevant experience originating and structuring transactions in these sectors.
</li><li> Knowledge of and experience in investing in emerging markets
</li><li> A strong network in North Africa is a plus.</li><li> Strong business development/origination track record and demonstrated judgment in identifying/screening potential business partners and investment opportunities</li><li> Strong financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments (debt, equity, mezzanine)</li><li> Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of clients, financial and technical partners, as well as senior government officials</li><li> Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries, and to build networks across the region, including the ability to mentor and coach others to achieve results</li><li> Excellent organizational, administrative, and time management skills</li><li> Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability.
