<b>Purpose Statement</b></div><div>
The job of Counselor is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for impacting students' academic, personal, and/or social success; instructing, supporting, training, coaching, and mentoring students; managing the schedules and placement of assigned students; providing guidance, curriculum, information and recommendations to students and parents; and assisting in the development of goals and plans for achievement.</div><div></div><div><br>

Essential Functions</b></div><ul><li>
Administers tests (e.g. teacher designed tests, AIMS, DIBELS, etc.) for the purpose of assisting teachers in assessing the level of student competencies.</li><li>
Conducts meetings (e.g. Student Assistant Team meetings, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating and receiving information and ensuring service delivery in compliance with established guidelines.</li><li>
Coordinates assigned programs (e.g. truancy, homeless students services, gifted services, etc.) for the purpose of delivering services in a timely fashion and achieving overall objectives of the program.</li><li>
Coordinates with teachers, resource specialists and/or community (e.g. service clubs, courts, child protective services, CIA, food bank, etc.) for the purpose of providing/receiving requested information and/or making recommendations.</li><li>
Counsels students, parents, and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success in school.</li><li>
Instructs students in developmentally appropriate personal-social issues (e.g. bullying, character building, hygiene, social skills, etc.) for the purpose of improving their interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.</li><li>
Intervenes in potential conflicts and emergency situations for the purpose of managing student behavior, diffusing situations and minimizing disruptions.</li><li>
Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g. program participation, contact sheets, agency referrals, etc.) for the purpose of providing required information and/or documentation.</li><li>
Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, assigned duties, school events, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.</li><li>
Monitors students' progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate action for increasing student success.</li><li>
Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g. lesson plans, behavior plans, 504 plans, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.</li><li>
Presents information to teachers and/or parents (e.g. positive behavior strategies, differentiated instruction, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing students' academic and social success.</li><li><div>
Researches program eligibility requirements (e.g. gifted and talented, special education, 504, sports, community programs, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date, accurate counsel to students and/or parents.</div></li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities</b></div><div>
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; preparing and maintaining accurate records; planning and managing projects; using pertinent software applications; analyzing data; facilitating meetings; and using curriculum and instructional techniques.</div><div>
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: stages of child development; assessment instruments and techniques; cultural differences of student population; knowledge of community resources; methods of instruction and training.</div><div>
ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
Responsibility</b></div><div>
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. Working Environment</b></div><div>
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.</div><div>
Experience Job related experience within a specialized field is required.</div><div>
Education Masters degree in job-related area.</div><div>
