Job Title: Health Careers InstructorRegional Career & Technical Education Center Coventry High SchoolReports to: CTE Director / Building PrincipalPosition OverviewThe Health Careers Instructor is a highly qualified, student centered individual who is responsible for delivering rigorous, career-focused instruction within the Health Sciences Career & Technical Education (CTE) program. The instructor will prepare students for postsecondary education, industry-recognized certifications, and entry-level healthcare careers through a combination of classroom instruction, laboratory simulation, and supervised clinical experiences.This position includes instruction across a multi-year health careers pathway, including Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Patient Care Technician (PCT), and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) preparation, as well as coordination of clinical placements at long-term care facilities.Minimum Qualifications>Bachelors degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Allied Health, Education, or a related field.>Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (BSN preferred)>Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) School Nurse Teacher certification or Valid Rhode Island Teaching Certification in Career and Technical Education (CTE), Health Science, or eligibility for certification.>Eligible for or willing to obtain all required CTE and program-specific certifications.>Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Certification.>Minimum three (3) years of experience in healthcare, nursing, or allied health field.Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.>Ability to work with diverse student populations and varying academic levels.Preferred Qualifications>Experience in long-term care, CNA training, hospital, EMS, or clinical healthcare settings.>Prior experience teaching or supervising adult learners or secondary CTE students.>Experience serving as a CNA Program Coordinator or clinical instructor.>Familiarity with the Credentia CNA testing system and certification processes.>Experience integrating simulation labs, healthcare technology, and competency-based assessment.>Experience coordinating internships, clinical placements, or work-based learning.>Industry certifications such as CNA, EMT, PCT, EKG, or Phlebotomy credentials.>Experience working with healthcare partners and postsecondary institutions.Certification & Compliance RequirementsCandidates must meet or be willing to meet the following program requirements:>American Heart Association CPR/First Aid Instructor certification (required).>Ability to obtain or maintain a Chauffeurs License for student transportation (required).>Compliance with Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) Nursing Assistant Training Program regulations.>Ability to function within RIDOH requirements for: CNA Program Coordinator (RN with 2+ years of experience, including long-term care experience) Clinical Instructor (RN/LPN or qualified allied health professional)>Ability to supervise students in clinical environments under RN licensure.>Compliance with immunization, health, and clinical placement documentation requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum Delivery>Teach a sequence of Health Careers courses aligned to CTE and healthcare industry standards as sampled below: Health Careers I: Introduction to healthcare careers; CPR/First Aid (HeartSaver certification) Health Careers II: CNA curriculum; CPR/AED certification; foundational clinical skills Health Careers III: CNA certification training, clinical preparation, and long-term care clinical rotations (minimum 40 clinical hours) Health Careers IV: Patient Care Technician (PCT) curriculum, including EKG and Phlebotomy; EMT preparation and certification readiness>Deliver competency-based instruction in: Vital signs Personal care skills Infection control Patient safety and communication Clinical documentation and healthcare professionalism>Prepare students for industry certifications, including: CNA (Credentia Certification Exam) CPR/AED certification (AHA) Patient Care Technician Certification (NHA) EKG Certification Exam(NHA) EMT certification (as applicable)>Integrate hands-on lab experiences, simulation-based learning, and clinical practice.Clinical Instruction & Transportation>Transport and supervise students to and from long-term care facilities for clinical rotations.>Ensure students complete required clinical hours for licensure, under RN supervision.>Provide direct oversight of student performance in clinical settings.>Ensure compliance with facility policies, safety procedures, and healthcare regulations.Program Coordination>Serve as or support the CNA Program Coordinator in accordance with RIDOH regulations.>Liaise with: Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) Credentia testing services Healthcare clinical partners and long-term care facilities>Schedule and coordinate clinical placements and work-based learning experiences.>Maintain student clinical records, immunization records, and program documentation.>Order and manage instructional supplies and laboratory equipment.>Support curriculum development and continuous program improvement.Assessment & Student SuccessAssess student knowledge, clinical skills, and workplace readiness competencies.>Prepare students for certification exams and maintain eligibility tracking.>Provide timely feedback on academic and clinical performance.Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, certifications, and clinical hours.Professional Responsibilities>Maintain active knowledge of healthcare industry standards, workforce needs, and certification requirements.>Participate in professional development, CTE training, and healthcare industry updates.>Collaborate with school staff, counselors, families, and industry partners.>Support student career readiness, internships, and job placement opportunities.>Uphold ethical, legal, and professional standards in both education and healthcare environments.Essential Functions>Deliver classroom, lab, and clinical instruction in health sciences.>Supervise students in school, lab, and healthcare facility settings.>Transport students safely to clinical sites.>Maintain compliance with RIDOH, district, and certification body requirements.>Maintain accurate records of student certification and clinical progress.>Collaborate with healthcare partners and educational stakeholders.Physical Demands & Work Environment>Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout classrooms, labs, and clinical settings.>Ability to demonstrate and supervise healthcare procedures and use clinical equipment.>Ability to transport students in a school vehicle (with appropriate licensing).>Work in classroom, laboratory, and healthcare facility environments.>Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.Terms of Employment>Salary, benefits, and work year in accordance with Coventry Public Schools Collective Bargaining Agreement.>All Candidates must be approved by RIDOH in advance of an employment offer.
