Novel Education Group is currently seeking a part-time, 12th grade teacher to work with a creative and kind student near Rancho Penasquitos, San Diego. We’re looking for someone who is very enthusiastic, fun, creative, and patient. This is a unique and unconventional opportunity to teach in a one-on-one setting; we value innovation, flexibility, and a personalized touch.

As a partner of Laurel Springs School, a fully accredited online private school, we will provide all curriculum and assignments through their online platform. Your primary responsibility will involve teaching the provided materials and customizing the curriculum to cater to the individual needs of the student, ensuring an enjoyable and captivating learning experience. The objective for your role is to help the student catch up and stay on track for graduation in June.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess a college degree and demonstrate a well-rounded perspective and a global mindset. While prior teaching or tutoring experience is essential, a formal teaching certificate is not mandatory. However, it is crucial that you are comfortable adapting to different environments, possess flexibility when working with students, and have the ability to create innovative materials and activities to sustain their engagement.

Position: 12th Grade Teacher
Location: In-person at the student’s home near Rancho Penasquitos, San Diego
Start Date: Flexible — position can begin anytime
Duration: 2ish months (until the end of the second semester of 12th grade, aiming for June)

12th Grade Classes:

• AP Calculus
• English 12
• Leadership
• Physics (Senior project)
• Us History

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday (5 days a week)
• The total weekly hours are still being determined but you should be available for as little as 7 and up to 15 hours weekly.
• Timing: Scheduled between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM (exact times flexible)

Requirements / Qualifications:

• Ability to commit to in-person instruction 5 days a week
• 4+ years of experience teaching or tutoring at the high school level
• Professionalism is key — you will be working with an esteemed family, so prior experience in similar settings is highly valued.
• Instructional Adaptability: Comfortable teaching core 12th-grade subjects (math, reading, writing, science, social studies) Primary focus is on executive functioning skills.
• Able to design and adjust lesson plans on the spot to maintain student engagement
• Comfortable using digital tools when appropriate. The student is learning through an online school
• Comfortable providing detailed feedback on student progress and maintaining regular communication with parents
• References available upon request; will undergo a background check
• Comfortable working in a private home setting with a family
• Discreet, respectful, and maintains professional boundaries

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Update weekly student Personalized Calendars with lesson activities
• Provide monthly progress report
