The Wadhwani Hub for Biosciences, Bioengineering, Health, and Medicine at IIT Bombay is a pioneering initiative supported by the Wadhwani Foundation, designed to position India as a global leader in translational innovation. With a $36 million investment, the Hub combines world-class graduate education, cutting-edge research centers, GMP/GLP facilities, and a strong translational ecosystem.

Anchored in a new 120,000 sq. ft. facility, the Hub brings together faculty, students, clinicians, and entrepreneurs to solve India’s most pressing healthcare challenges from infectious diseases and digital health to biologics, diagnostics, and medical devices. It also serves as the nerve center of a national innovation network, enabling 10+ academic institutions across India.


About Wadhwani Innovation and Translation Centre:


The Wadhwani Innovation and Translation Centre (WITC) is the execution arm of the Hub, focused on translating breakthrough research into market-ready, socially impactful healthcare solutions. The Biosciences & Bioengineering vertical of WITC leads programs in synthetic biology, diagnostics, biomanufacturing, biologics, and advanced biomaterials. Its mandate includes translating discoveries from TRL 3–7+, supporting indigenous innovation, building industry collaborations, and extending research capacity to 10+ partner institutions across India via the Wadhwani Innovation Network (WIN).

WITC operates as a national catalyst for translation, providing funding, mentorship, regulatory support, and commercialization pathways for innovations emerging from IIT Bombay and a network of partner institutes. It also works closely with hospitals, industry, investors, and policymakers to ensure lab-to-market success.


1.The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Health Sciences and Medicine


Job Summary

As CEO – Health Sciences and Medicine, you will lead the Health vertical of WITC at IIT Bombay, advancing innovations that address critical public health and clinical challenges in India and globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement strategic programs across health sciences and medical technology.
  • Lead translational funding, clinical validation, and start-up incubation for health innovations.
  • Collaborate with hospitals, medical colleges, and public health bodies to accelerate lab-to-clinic translation.
  • Guide clinical trials, regulatory approvals, and adoption frameworks for supported innovations.
  • Extend WITC’s reach to 10+ partner institutions through the Wadhwani Innovation Network (WIN).
  • Build collaborations with government, NGOs, and global health organizations.
  • Oversee Centre operations, budgeting, and team leadership.

Profile

MD/PhD/Master’s in Health Sciences, Medicine, or Public Health with 15+ years in clinical research, translational medicine, or healthcare innovation. Strong track record in leading cross-sector health initiatives and partnerships.

Job Summary

As CEO – Biosciences and Bioengineering, you will lead the Bio vertical of the Wadhwani Innovation and Translation Centre (WITC) at IIT Bombay. The role involves steering innovation from research to real-world application in areas like diagnostics, therapeutics, medical devices, and digital health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute WITC’s strategy for biosciences innovation and translational research.
  • Identify high-impact research areas and design interdisciplinary programs bridging science and technology.
  • Manage translational funding, prototype development, and validation pipelines from TRL 3–7.
  • Build partnerships with academia, biotech and med-tech industries, and funding bodies.
  • Support IP management, licensing, and technology transfer to accelerate commercialization.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team, ensuring alignment, accountability, and innovation excellence.
  • Represent IIT Bombay’s bioinnovation efforts across national and international platforms.

Profile

PhD/Master’s/M.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, or related fields with 15+ years in R&D, biotech, or translational innovation; proven leadership in multi-stakeholder scientific ecosystems.
