1st Shift Junior Operator

Smooth-On, Inc. is seeking a team-oriented, 1st Shift Production Junior Operator associate to join our company. Smooth-On is a 130 yr old company, located near Allentown, PA, specializing in silicones, liquid rubber, liquid plastics, foams and other products that allow creators from all walks of life to turn their ideas into 3-dimensional reality. This role will be responsible for safely, accurately and efficiently packing out liquid and powder products from production tanks or bulk containers to finished goods unit containers and cleaning production tanks and pots. Hours: 1st Shift - Monday-Friday 6:00am -2:30pm


Position Summary:

The Junior Operator is responsible for operating the blending and mixing equipment to produce high-quality products in a safe, consistent, and efficient manner. This role requires a willingness to learn and be mentored by experienced Senior Operators and to perform other utility work as assigned. The ideal candidate demonstrates reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and civility.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Interact with coworkers, customers, and vendors in a respectful, courteous, and professional manner—verbally, non-verbally, and in written communications.
  • Safely and consistently manufacture batches that meet quality standards.
  • Respond swiftly and appropriately to non-standard or emergency situations to minimize risks and maintain safety.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment at all times.
  • Accurately follow and complete Batch Sheets and Pack-Out Sheets, ensuring proper documentation throughout the production process.
  • Produce batches consistently and without error, in line with established procedures.
  • Identify and report any discrepancies in batch sheets and suggest improvements in line with best practices.
  • Operate equipment and machinery safely and effectively to complete batch production.
  • Understand and adhere to procedures for handling flammable materials and hazardous substances.
  • Participate in annual training and remain compliant with regulations related to hazardous waste handling (e.g., drum storage and transportation).

KKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with SOAR (or ability to learn it quickly).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to strictly follow written procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Understanding of standard operating procedures and workplace policies.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
  • Proficiency in operating a forklift (or willingness to become certified).
  • Knowledge of raw materials, chemical handling, and packaging supplies.
  • Ability to recognize and manage hazardous materials appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Problem-solving skills and proactive approach to challenges.
  • Competence in completing paperwork and reports accurately and legibly.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new systems and software.
  • Eagerness to learn and operate new equipment and processes.

11. Perform other job related duties or responsibilities when requested or required whether or not specifically mentioned in job description.
12. Willing to work with others in a team environment.

Experience and Education:

  • Two (2) years successful experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • High school graduate or GED required; must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
  • Previous experience in a chemical industry preferred.
  • Moderate understanding of operating a computer.

Abilities:
  • Must be comfortable lifting & carrying up to 100 lbs occasionally
  • Must be comfortable lifting & carrying up to 50 lbs frequently
