2026-2027 Middle School or High School Social Studies Teacher

Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Middle School or High School Social Studies Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. Duties

  • Design and implement comprehensive social studies curricula aligned with educational standards and tailored to diverse student needs.
  • Develop engaging lesson plans utilizing various learning technologies and instructional design principles to enhance student understanding.
  • Incorporate curriculum development best practices, including AP style guidelines and Chicago Manual of Style standards, into classroom materials.
  • Facilitate classroom discussions that promote critical thinking, civic engagement, and cultural literacy while maintaining effective classroom management.
  • Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, and project-based evaluations; provide timely feedback to support learning.
  • Mentor students individually and in groups, offering academic advising, tutoring, and behavioral support to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects, curriculum reviews, and school-wide initiatives to improve instructional quality.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to research in social sciences, literacy education, special education strategies, and working with diverse learners.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behavioral incidents; prepare reports for administration as needed.
  • Support library services by integrating research skills into lessons and encouraging independent inquiry among students.

Experience

  • Prior classroom experience teaching middle or high school social studies or related subjects in a formal educational setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development across history, civics, geography, economics, or related disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of AP style writing, copy editing techniques, proofreading skills, and adherence to Chicago Manual of Style standards.
  • Experience mentoring students or new teachers in pedagogical best practices; familiarity with higher education teaching methods is a plus.
  • Proficiency with learning technology tools such as educational software platforms, digital assessment tools, and instructional design resources.
  • Background working with diverse student populations including those requiring special education accommodations or behavior management support.
  • Knowledge of standardized testing procedures and experience preparing students for assessments at various levels.
  • Private school experience or familiarity with Montessori or other specialized educational philosophies is advantageous but not required.
