Position Title: 21st Century Afterschool Program Teacher
Department: Momentum Academy Extending Care


Role:
Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, Panther Club Teacher will lead the instruction and training of scholars in his or her classroom and/or assigned grade level(s). The Teacher will work closely with scholars, parents, and school administration to ensure that academic success and character development are achieved by all scholars in the classroom. The 21st Century After-School Program is not supposed to be a regular school activity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches district approved curriculum.

  • Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, establishes standards based long/short range goals for students.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each scholar.
  • Obtains, analyzes and uses scholar demographics to guide instructional planning.
  • Demonstrates a thorough command of the discipline/content he/she teaches.
  • Translates lesson plans/instructional strategies into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Plans, establishes, and maintains procedures for managing scholar behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere and to maximize instructional time.
  • Uses a variety of formal and informal assessments to guide instruction and provide feedback during instruction.
  • Engages scholars in a variety of learning experiences that promote self-directed learning and scholar inquiry.
  • Utilizes a variety of assessments to evaluate scholars academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports and/or other indicators to reflect student achievement.

  • Identifies scholar needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
  • Creates and maintains a safe environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers and exhibits of scholar’s work.
  • Demonstrates a command of classroom management by managing transitions between activities or classes.
  • Participates in continuous high quality professional development in order to enhance his/her professional growth and development.
  • Exhibits professional demeanor and behavior.
  • Works to achieve organizational goals in order to make the entire school a positive and productive learning environment for scholars.
  • Communicates, effectively, goals and instructional expectation for scholars in writing, orally and through posting of standards, objectives, or essential questions during classroom instruction, homework, assignments and/or home-school communications.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Site Coordinator.
  • Chaperone field trips to local venues.
  • Engage parents in activities that the entire family can enjoy
  • Lead recreational activities
  • Perform remediation and support activities with scholars.
  • Tutor scholars with their day time school activities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required
Missouri Teaching Certification required (Elementary Education 1-6 preferred).

Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of teaching experience (experience working with students and families in urban communities is a plus)
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with school teaching platforms and technology for virtual learning
  • Proven track record of student achievement results
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
  • Demonstrated mastery and enthusiasm for content knowledge.
  • Strong organization, planning, and time management skills.
  • A tireless work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and innovative solution finder.
  • Open to feedback and committed to continuously improving.



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
3 hours/day
$23 per hour
