We are seeking a Maintenance Supervisor with strong leadership skills and a proven aptitude for maintenance and safety. This role oversees second-shift maintenance and ensures all maintenance activities meet high standards of efficiency and compliance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May hire, train, and oversee direct reports.
  • May oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of direct reports in the department.
  • Supervises personnel as needed or as directed.
  • Assists in training personnel as needed or as directed.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive, providing recommendations for development, promotion, and salary adjustment as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervision and Leadership: Supervise and provide leadership to a team of maintenance technicians, assigning tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring timely completion of maintenance activities while offering guidance and support to maintain a high level of performance and productivity.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs and schedules, conducting regular inspections to proactively identify maintenance needs and ensure ongoing reliability and functionality of equipment.
  • Reactive Maintenance: Respond promptly and efficiently to maintenance requests or emergencies, prioritizing and addressing urgent repairs or breakdowns to minimize downtime and production interruptions, coordinating with technicians and external vendors as needed.
  • Equipment and Inventory Management: Manage and oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring availability to support maintenance operations, and coordinate with the purchasing department for necessary materials and equipment.
  • Health, Safety and Compliance: Enforce a strong safety culture within the maintenance team, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting inspections and audits to identify and address potential hazards or risks.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate the work of external vendors engaged in maintenance activities, reviewing performance, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, and addressing any issues or concerns.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings, collaborating with other departments or teams when able to streamline maintenance processes and achieve organizational goals.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Troubleshooting: When issues arise with equipment or facilities, the maintenance supervisor is responsible for investigating the problems, identifying the root causes, and implementing effective solutions.
  • Vendor Management: coordinate with external vendors or contractors for specialized repairs or maintenance tasks.
  • Communication: Effective communication with other departments and management is crucial. The supervisor may need to report on maintenance activities, update stakeholders on progress, and provide input on equipment upgrades or replacements.
  • Maintenance planning: They develop maintenance schedules and plans for routine inspections, repairs, breakdowns, and preventive maintenance to ensure that equipment and facilities are properly maintained and operational.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of FMCSA vehicle standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to understand instructions, applicable safety regulations, and to maintain records.
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external vendors and customers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at time, stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Three to five years of related experience.
    • Required
  • Associate’s degree or vocational training in vehicle maintenance, welding, or another related field.
    • Preferred
  • Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods standing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ability to maintain single task focus and situational awareness.
